One of my Clan mates have been having problems lately while playing neocron. he doesnt have any problems when in UG's or anywhere indoors unless there is ALOT of fighting going on. But I see this problems occuring mostly when he's in outside zones with alot of tress and Grass. His Neocron will just randomly freeze the whole comp will lag out vent will freeze and ussualy after a minute or even upto 5 sometimes it will unfrezze and the rest of my computer will start working again. Ussually just alt+f4 out of the game which takes a minute or so but is faster than waiting out the freeze time. This is Really making the game unplayable. He's have tried running Nc with NOTHING running the backround. Uninstalled the video Card Drivers and Reinstalled them the newest ones from the nvidia site. He's tried disabling the shit onboard MOtherCard sound. He tryed vync on and Off. Playing in Dx7 and Dx9. Hes Run Spyware/Virus scans etc, NO spyware/Adware, Viruses, or anything of the sort. THis is A Farily new setup about a month of two old. And he says he's had similar problems with other games such as CSS, and Battlefield 2. But Very rarely maybe once a day. Or Not even at all. And this is running all these games at the highest settings. He's ruled out anything overheating And is running out of ideas. The Setup is as Follows:

MotherBoard: ABIT Kn8 Nf4 Ultra
CPU: AMD 64 4000+ Sandiego
VideoCard: eVGA Nvidia 7800GT 256mb
Memory: 1 gig Corsair TWINX1024-3200c2pt DDR
H/D:Maxxtor 200gb 7200 RPM
P/S: enermax 535w

If anyone Needs any other info just ask. Or if anyone has any idead ANy help is apreciated. Thank you.

Has he done a detailed test for defective memory?

ask him to try window-mode.
checking cpu / gpu temps will be worthwhile too...

does the freezing occure "ouuta the blue" or at certain times.. such as syyncing into outdoor secs etc.. ?

Checked GPU/CPU temps they are all fine Peak at 46c* While playing. This just happens out of the blue. And He has not Checked for defective memory. ANy suggestions or Ideas on how to do that?

look for memtest86...

On the other hand.. you mentioned that problems tend to occure when "a lot of fighting" is going on... firewall / router / proxy might be a thing to check as well.

I like memtest. http://www.memtest86.com/ Get the one that runs in dos and let it run overnight.

I dont realy know anything about this so im just going to give random suggestions.

If you have had a videocard in the past in that computer make sure to run driver cleaner to remove all fragments of it. Also make sure you have all your chipset drivers.

When did it start?

It has been doing this since hes gotten the comp. He didnt have the newest chipset drivers so hes getting those now. Hes got memtest which is gonna be run overnite tonight. And Hes only had the one 7800 gt in the comp. But Driver cleaner will be run and drivers will be resinstalled just incase.

I will let you knopw how it all turns out.

Well That is when hes indoors. But running aroud zones such as battledome. NC Gates, etc... He just radomly freezes while doing virtually nothing. But What should I have him check for in the router/firewall?

skip through this faq http://ng.neocron.com/index.php?id=85

...and if all of what has been mentioned in this thread didnt help, consider a clean re-install (uninstall nc2, make sure all reg entries are gone as well as all folders, reboot, reinstall using the evol2.1 installer, download the patches from ftp.neocron.com again)... maybe it's just the terrain.pak thats somewhat corrupted. A reinstall would most likely help.

...but seeing he does have the same issues with other games as well... but not on that frequent level, a memory failure, as nid suggested it - sounds possible as well. Nc2 beats most games I know in terms of file-hit num's. so there's a lot of data being squeezed arround on your hdd and mem.

Having no idea what any of that means It does show alot of Errors with grass ,trees, mountains and cliffs which is when most of the crashing occurs. Any Suggestions?

I think we may have found the problem Looking through the error.logs we found....

apart from "@WITEMDATA : Damaged item size too big: T:8350 S:24965", I dont see anything unusual in there. Unfortunately I cant tell you what exactly it stands for - could be just as well another minor entry. Script spawn fails are quite common, same concerning the "still referenced at program exit" stuff.

Anything interesting in your clientliblog or init.log ?
Did the memtest show up with newsworthy results?
Did you run a full dxdiag ?

Have him check *VISUALLY* all the components on his graphics card. My FX5700 Ultra had a popped capacitor. Would be fine in Windows, but running any 3D graphics would cause it to randomly freeze the machine. It may not be exactly the same problem, but it's another possibility.

Lore, when I was having the same problems it turned out that after a bad installation of things in the computer, someone has forgotten (maybe me maybe technician) to plug the GPU's SEPARATE plug for power in the relevant socket. the 7800 has this as well, and it's wise to have a fast check on his video card.

I would say it smells like outdated chipset drivers...
we have now done dxdiags on his putah and other crapsor
so whats left is chipset drivers and memcheck...

well he said he will test his meme when he drops dead to sleep or snore...

will know more about it soonish

That's a definately possibility. The molex connector on the graphics card may be in, but not seated properly, as well.

Get him to do a remove and re-seat (Remove all cables from the PC one at a time, and put them back in securely, and remove all PC/AGP cards and re-seat them. Then do the same for the memory.)

LOL. Well he says he let memchek run for an hour since he didint sleep last night and it says passed 4 and failed 0. Not to sure if thats how man times the test ran and it passed? Newest chipset drivers have been installed and still no go. I will have him unplug and replug everything. lol. Ye Maybe next We Can try getting a while new fucking comp O_o. Seeing this one runs everyother game perfectly on highest settings except Neocron 8|

zip up that log folder (minus the console.log and patch.log pls) and send it to spam-at-akedo.de
I'll see if I can find any clues concerning the issue.

...did he try windowmode btw?
..windowmode with AA and all other optical candies disabled but vSync enabled is the safest config for nc imo..
