View Full Version : The Tech Haven Network takes on World of Warcraft
During the usual check of the webstats on the THN (http://www.techhaven.org), I spotted a bit of a jump in bandwidth usage. Turns out that the number of download for ventrilo mix had trebled to about 300 downloads.
A bit unusual I though, so I looked through the referrals list of webstats. These referrals tells you in most cases where the visitor came from. Whether it's the forums, the Neocron website etc. There was one unusally high referrer.

Spot the link to the Techhaven Network download page for Ventrilo Mix from a World of Warcraft fansite. :eek:
So to be a little cheeky, and to help the populations of Neocron, the THN has put up a little aggrement which leeching World Of Warcraft users have to click on "I agree" before downloading. (Goto here (http://www.techhaven.org/component/option,com_docman/task,doc_details/gid,18/Itemid,39/) and click on download to see it.)
P.S. If anyone would like to add a message for WoW players on the download page, please post here, or PM me, and I'll add it.

Anyway to get the vent mix .exe to also run a script to actually uninstall any WoW client instances on the downloaders PC? lol Or even the agreement to trigger the uninstaller off, lol.
As re-installing WoW is painful especially when you have a CD version retail box with none of the patches - and yes i used to play WoW but it sucked and i came back to Neocron :p

..why dont you include a slot sys as (as known from most major file-hosting companies ...they show slideshow-ads etc during the 5min wait) well? I mean... wow peeps are used to waiting for free slots anyway :p

Most decent suggestion up to now. All the virus and uninstall suggestions would just shed a bad light upon out community. Trying to actually wreck havoc is the sign of a sour looser. (Doing the same in game got style, though. :) )

I leave this up to you to think it over, perhaps you in some distant future manage to make the connection between your statement, the behaviour of some players and the problem of some people considering the community to be lousy and not being interested in this game.

Refresh the page a few times... the banner on the right side is random, the "no more elves" is among them... one of the coolest of all. :)

...and also swapping the file for a Virus is a criminal offence in the UK. it would be bad for me as a person, my IT career, the THN and also bad for Neocron. Anything malicious is not going to happen, that includes the WoW uninstaller sugguestions. (I know people mean it as a joke around here)
When I spotted the WoW fansite linking to my site, I thought let's have some fun with them. :) The site in question is doing no major harm except leeching a bit of my bandwidth quota. I may drop the site in question a little polite note to host their own copy of VentriloMix.

The no-more-elves banner does appear randomly on the THN, along with Banner ads for a few factions and vendors ingame. (Edit: Ahh Sylow spotted it!)

I can't find that anywhere myself. I knocked this one up quickly, as I think it would definitely perhaps possibly maybe generate one or two clicks. I know it's pap, cliched and tacky, but [hopefully] it will do the job whilst someone more artistic can make a better one / we find an official KK one.

Though, you stated that you did it quickly, and unfortunately i have to say, it can be seen.
Not being a graphics pro, i am unable to pin the problem down, but it just looks and feels like something even i am able to do, it just lacks the little shine and gloss to make look special.
With a little rework, i guess it could do very well. :)

Its because there is partial picture behind the info box on the right instead of a fade out. But I'm not slagging it off, it'll do well enough until KK point us in the right direction for one of their own.
And, Brammers is fast. Go to the main page and if it's not there, refresh a few times... it'll come up eventually. :)

I put a little P.S. in the page at the bottom, unfortunatly it's not really possible to do a redirect to the Neocron, without me altering the code for the Docman download manager.

I do agree with that other guy, have a 10-20 second wait on the page with the Ad's until the button to download becomes usable.

Encode a virus into the "i don't agree" button that takes control of your pc and disables the keyboard/mouse/power button etc and in a deep copbot/stormbot voice says "perhaps you need more persuading" then starts uninstalling wow and a download box pops up and starts downloading nc and installs then signs you up to 10 day trial and puts you ingame then allows you to use your mouse/keyboard again but disables the escape button and alt+f4 / alt+tab.
