View Full Version : Hackable WB's Anyone?

Come-on, you know it would be bad ass to be running through a Zone and actually have to worry about mobs like WB's....... well mobs influenced by runners anyways :).

I mean look at the original Storyline, They used to be basically Mech suits for pilots and when the pilots died the AI took over. Especially seeing this point I think that they should be hackable, and able to be controlled. If they are hackable then yes they obviously should require some vehicle control also. Even if you make it have to take two people to succesfully take control of it that would be lots of fun. One person to agro it, one person to hack and enter it (kinda like droning except your body is inside.

SERIOUSLY, Just because the pilot died (if you go with the story line) doesnt mean that you can't empty out the old bones and rotten flesh from the cockpit and throw your own meatsack in there.......

Right now even with all the variation in this game its still to easy to set up your character and react to people. WB's do hella damage and if under the influence would really cause people to think twice about going out thru the wastelands.

It would also give Pure hackers something else to do other than hack belts and sit around for an OP war to be usefull.

Here's a few things I think need to be addressed if it does happen:
1. Must take the pilot 15-30 seconds to get in or out (that way they cant just abandon ship in one when it starts going down and they are inside, I mean it must be complicated to get in or out of one of those ESPECIALLY under attack. this is also to counteract the fact that they are decently hard to kill for a mob and do LOTS of damage)

2. Must REQUIRE VHC since in its orginal form it is a vehicle, and must require hack to let you regain control over AI. Must hack first to enter it, that way you are vulnerable before getting in such a cool a$$ vehicle.

3. It would be cool if when a runner dies inside one they're "belt drop" goes INTO the loot box UNPROTECTED with the other junk that drops.

4. If you kill someone in one it says "killed by RUNNER in WB" so you know who it is.

Oh yeah I AGREE WITH REDOING PP

Piloting a WB would be very cool. The req's should be high though. REP skill to adjust whatever went wrong, VHC, and H-C for the gunner. Also a special CPU imp to interface with the WB.

Piloted warbot = mech.

KK Say mechs will never be in the game, it would be cool though. :(

Remote controlled WB - without a pilot INSIDE the Bot would not count as a Mech in my books, so yeah KK do it plz k thx

If they could allow any leniency it would be a great implimentation for pure hackers

Maybe only if you find WB remiains. You then recycle it with vehicle parts to get a key.

If KK ever made Warbots hackable and pilotable, I would seriously about totally fucking mortgaging my ass for a cray computer, renderfarm, and IMAX screen to play Neocron.

they need to make a new mechwarrior game...

the newest one is like wut 5 years old...

Indeed, mechs should (if ever introduced) be a very small niche part of the game and uncommon (require high level of skill - in terms of stats and player skill, and then only as good as any other vehicle. This would mean that only specialised pilots used by skilled players would be seen).

Something like what a PPU or rez capable player was intended to be.

Apocalypsox

heh, kinda like the gliders are a very small niche part of the game? just make em hard as hell to figure out how to control like gliders, and give them to us. the ones that want to learn how to pilot them can figure it out, and the stupid people that dont think its worth it can go back to their rhinos.

Mmorpg mechwarrior game would be a nice idea.
It's basicaly got everything ready to have factions, clans etc.

If mechs would require capped DEX and INT spy with all dex into VHC (and probably all vec implants), then they'd have to be ridiculously powerful to compensate the player for his investment.

No, thats the cost for the rest of us having to see something dumb in the game ;)

How about explaining your point of view? This way others can see why you may be thinking what you are since they may not have had this insight themselves. Too many people post an opinion without some explanation. This does not help in developing new additions to the game at all and is really counterproductive because others have to sift through pointless posts to get to the ones that actually make some headway.

One simple question Dog, How does a Cyberpunk game that HAD Mech's in it before the AI took over not fit into this game lol

Same for you STRIFE lets see some explanation

OMG... This seems VERY familier to something I made up a while ago and a friend and myself were talking about over OOC... WTF mate?

BTW does anyone have a picture of the Mechsican?

Strife

Because it'd be overpowered, or simply useless.

Dogface
07-05-06, 15:49
Yeah, pretty much.

Don't need mechs. They'd probably produce more problems than they'd be worth.
I'd like class balance before KK even though about considering mechs..
Just because were used in the storyline doesn't mean they should be brought into the game to play. Nuclear bombs were used, when do I get my nuclear bomb? Come on KK please give me my nuclear bomb o_O

I still stand by my opinion that mechs are stupid and won't suit the way NC is/is going is used by players.

imo hackable wbs could be a nice feature for fullhackers (w hack and tc needed to be around 140+) who haven't got much to do atm. which btw is something that doesn't suit a cyberpunk setting at all.

just use hack and tc as requ. and you won't see too much of them anyways and dmg could be adjustet a bit when being ridden by a runner. additionally sneaking up on a wb and hacking it is rather dangerous for a fullhacker.

Okay I'll run with this idea a little further.

I was thinking of the "pilot" wearing special goggles (would take the place of a helmet in the armour slot perhaps, or a tool in the qb) with a massive whip antenna sticking out from him and controlling the WB like a ground based drone... This way he could only see the WB's Point of View.

So he is a sitting duck, but providing he hides well, he could wreak some havoc with his RC WB :)

Dribble Joy
07-05-06, 16:10
A different range of 'drones' would be interesting. A WB would probably be better for PvM though, as it's pretty weak against players, it's only going to be in a few OP zones and it's free.

i don't think wbs are weak, it's the ai that makes them such an easy prey, not their lack of defensive or offensive capabilities.

Dogface
07-05-06, 16:22
Jesus, look at what Neocron ACTUALLY IS.

It's a cruel world with murderers, drug-users, crime lords, prostitutes and gangs.

Mr. Black Dragon crime-lord says: I'm going out for a ride in my mech.
Mrs. Black Dragon crime-lord says: You dumb fuck, why the fuck do you have a mech?

Just because we already have warbots, doesn't mean that it instanty fits into the game if it's players running around in them. Just because you can think of a way to make people use them, doesn't make it fit into the game either, yuuki.

Almost as stupid as the idea of jetpacks.

Scanner Darkly
07-05-06, 16:29
Jet packs are stupid? 8|

Surely in this post-apocalyptic world of ours, every available resource is utilised by every enterprising inhabitant. Some hunt WBs for techs or sport, other make them their pets. Where's the conflict?

I don't think I'd want to ride around in one since they're slow and probably rather cramped and then there's all those pilot bones and things

yuuki
07-05-06, 16:32
i didn't want to make them usable like normal vehicles you can pick up at an asg, but you would need to hack them while they can attack you to ride in them.

and i think that such things fit into a cyberpunk setting far better than things like magic, whatever it may be called ig.

So does that mean I get my nuclear bombs, my spaceships, my monks that can make things explode in mid-air or my brilliant white light that wipes out countries at a time?

But you said I should utilise anything?

My HC PE can take 2 at a time at close range with no cover, my monk can take 3. And all my combat chars are pvp chars, and they hunt in their pvp gear. My HC PE wears inq4helm, trousers, and vk armor all the time, including when hunting warbots. ;)

Compared to the 'human' lvl 80 npcs they are horribly weak, though they would be slightly better if they actually fired at the rate they are capable of, rather than the od pot shot.

seratoz
07-05-06, 18:58
For one, if WB's are so weak why all the fuss against this.

Secondly you are missing the point dog, The stronger the weapons the more stuff it takes to make and the more expensive it is. It should be correlatedly harder to make or obtain based on its strength. If you are making a bat its easy obviously. If you make a Nuclear bomb is should be extremely difficult through obtaining the equipment, finding someone to ressearch it, and finding someone to put it together.

Think about it your "Nuclear Bomb" would take uranium enrichment (which in its self is very complicated) and many other complicated steps. That should be reflected in game.

As they alraedy have started to do so you should have to fight some tough mobs to obtain this important ingredient for the some items.

Anyways back to the WB, thats exactly why i said it should have to take two people at least to hack it since one hacker would be killed while hacking if it wasnt agro'd.

If said super weapons do ever come to be I would like to see some collaborative efforts implimented to increase difficulty of makeing an item. Think about if someone was building a bomb.... it isn't just one person normally who actually builds something like a nuclear bomb. Wouldnt it be cool if they required a group of constructers to make larger or more comlicated items? Imagine have to have 5 constructors with tl 180 CST just to make a Nuclear bomb. It would make it much more difficult seeing as they would akll ahve to be your friends otherwise people would want to build it for you..... that or they would charge you a shit load lol anyways.....

Im just trying to find some more variation in this game. Not really trying to argue hard pressed for the WB's, we need some new stuff

Hackable WB's for the win. The only problem....WB's are moving while the hacker is hacking. I'm sure the hack would drop when the WB gets far enough away....That would be one hell of a challenege to hack it without it moving too far away
