Malfuntioning copbot.

Whas runing through viarosso 3 tonight, when i sudenly got shocked by a creepy metalic voice. After snooping around abit i found that one of the copbots on the zoneline to via 2 whas doing the bug dance faling over and geting back up.

Only he whas also repeating 2 mesages alternatingly as he fell down.

First hed go "This Cannot be here" as he hit the deck.

Next time hed go what me an my SXR partners in crime deciphered as being "I am [out]dated"

Needless to say it freaked me out abit. Im used to strange bugs by now but not to them being acompanied by aparently customized soundfiles.

I quickly called in anyone who cared to listen on the SXR Vent channel. And before long i had Tiberian Riot and Faid standing beside me staring at the bot.

Unfortunately before anyone with fraps runing got there. Faid, reacting to the strong hypnotic efect of the scene, threw a lightning on the bot sending him into combat mode and fixing the strange bug.

i dont think its a bug, i have seen it before, randomly around NC, maybe even back in NC1.

I thought i heard its supposed to be infected by a software virus, possibly from the HIOB thing running around in HN?

Ollld bug.
First saw it after I;d been in NC about a month or so.
Basically copbot think it is dieing over and over again, and hence plays the copbot death sound over and over again.

Can still use that as an IC explanation - its pleasant when you can.
That said, I'm always annoyed by the "all channels except OOC are IC channels..
If I was to act IC in HELP all the while, I'd be worse than useless...

Yeah, happens with other guard NPCs too, also on dieing the copbots actually say..

"This....cannot.....be......." and "I, have, failed.......*mechanical hiss*"

Some of the other sadly not used copbot sounds are kick ass too :(

S.T.O.R.M. bots used to do that in NC1. They'd give you 2 warnings to put your weapon away, then blow you away, regardless of faction.

/edit: Copbots also used to tell you to "Have a nice day" or "Move along citizen, nothing to see here"

Think i prefer the copbots from the original offline demo with the storyline... not the training ones but ther one that had you running all over the place and that little intercom thing, and tunnels out of MC5... tbh i think that did more for ingame storylines than anything else in NC fullstop, should be brought back in as some sort of forced tutorial for newbies.

The COPBOTs used to have alsorts of funky voice tags :(

Think when idling/people looked at them they'd say stuff such as..

"Move along, this is a restricted area"
"Move along, have a nice day"

The new style copbots annoy me as they now dont use any of their sounds :( except when you head to TH and get Drop That Weapon. wasnt the old NC1 order of things...

"Drop that weapon"
"I said put that weapon away"
"Ok thats enough" *Begins firing*
Then randomly.. "FREEZE!"

:P I think the mechanical voice of the copbots is probly the coolest sound apart from the main theme. Theyr still a litle creepy though when you hear their death sound on repeat.

Sadly the only time ive had a copbot wish me a nice day whas on the old website.

I can't recall if anyone ever worked out what it is that the HoverBombers are muttering about.

Any ideas ?

Mostly stufff to the effect of "Destroy" (hoverEYE line) and "kill" etc.
Let me just dig through the sound files though.

edit, ok, found relveant files. Heres what each says:
Hoverbomber: "Target sighted" Sounds rather like Marvin(H2G2)
Hoverbot: "Eliminate" And sounds rather like its throwing up
Hovereye "Destroy" This one actually sounds kinda menacing.
Hoverstation: "Destruction"

A bit violence minded.
This was all bsed off the sound files, so whether they are all tied correctly is another matter.

Why don't the copbots say any of these lines? Would be cool, rather than the silent moving and paraing machines we have these days.

Because most of them are based off when they reacted to weapons and not Soul light. They need to get some of the really cool voice sounds back as the little things like that make the game feel so much better and create really cool atmosphere.

The Launcher Cyclopes's "RAWRGGHH COME ON!" line is also part of the Cyborg dialoge but its more hissy and they also shout NOO!! on dieing.
