Seems a wee problem may have been found regarding some motherboards with onboard network adapters and dual-core CPUs, running WinXP. These apparently can cause lag and/or disconnection. One of the symptoms is receiving negative ping results.

I had some trouble with the ASUS A8N-E board when I got it. If I used the latest Nvidia drivers for the motherboard. Caused no end of conflicts and problems, including problems with the NIC.

The solution - used the drivers than come on the CD, and leave the Nvidia drivers off.
