Not bad, not bad, not a big fan of those style small cars tho. I used to have a E36 330is engine in a 328ic body, M3 styling, real nice sound system etc, before that I had a pimped out L200 Warrior. Just bought a 1985 Land Rover Defender 90, was in a bit of a state, just got it up to MOT passing level :D

It'll be the dogs bollocks by the time I'm finished, jacked up springs, massive fuck off Pitbull tyres etc :p

Friend of mines got this pink (it's a girl) VW Beetle, dragster config, big back wheels and induction kit hanging out :p

Bug blew it's engine a few christmasses ago, con rod through the crankcase, unfortuneately during the time it took to get money for a new engine (1.6, new Bosche dizzy and new coil as well) it sat on the drive as the garage was full, and the underside rusted like mad.
New torsion bar housings front and back, new floor pans and new rear suspension mounts needed.

The 'Muffwagon' will live again though.

American cars are really good at going fast in a straight line...

The point of a Muscle car was just plain outragous amounts of raw power. Going around a corner usually ment alot of smoke, and the car usally pointed in a completely different direction while doing it.

A buddy of mine had a 70 1/2 Chevelle with close to 800hp that we used to have fun with. Tape a $100 to the dash, and let people try and grab it while under full acceleration :p

LOL @ American Muscle Cars. Big ass heavy engines, big heavy bodies, huge rear tires = great in straight line, very very sorry in the corners. Now a real european car was and is the Ford Sierra Cosworth, light shell, light engine and the ability to go round corners.

The attached pics are of a tuners car in Derby, a company called Top Boss Performance. This particular monster has had the old 2l 16v turbocharged lump pulled out and been replaced by a 2.9V6 24v Twin Turbo pushing out just shy of 700bhp and it aint even run in, all this in a package weighing in at 1250kg that means 0-60mph in sub 3 seconds and 100 in under 5 and it goes round corners too.

Its the blue one btw called Blue Steel, check out the website www.topbossperfomance.co.uk (http://www.topbossperfomance.co.uk/)

There's an Evo8 model that comes with 450hp... from a 2L engine, it needs a service every 3500 miles (afaik). You can tune an engine to prooduce as much power as you want, but it will fall apart if you actually use it at it's full potential for any length of time.
Not to mention the turbo lag...

Gimme a Lotus Exige that weighs like 700kg and 240 hp and a track and I'll take any of those lumps on.

DJ true about the full potential of high HP engines, any lump run at full chat will fail including the toyota lump fitted to the exige, yes it is a toyota lump at 1.8 litre, this i know cause a mate of mine has has had both the rover k series elise and a toyota 1.8 powered exige, that and the fact i fix these engines on a reg basis. But this is about shear HP and cornering ability and yes an exige will out do most things, inc a cossie on the corners. But all round a cossie will do most things on a track, and you can get the shopping in one.

Sorry i am biased cause i had a 400bhp cossie, but had to sell it due to going to uni at 28 yo, but i will be back with more power.

A lot of use don't go out on the tracks to go race though...I dunno how racing is in other countries but here in the US, (Ohio) when we race we goto Edgewater, the 1/4 to test, tune, race, and win some $$. I completly agree that there's no way an American car could even compare to an Euro/Jap on a course, or on backroads. Even all of the street racing goes on in straight lines from light to light.

I drive an American car simply because I love the raw power they give from just being stock... All these 2.0l rally cars all rely on they're built up engines and turbos to bump up their horsepower. $5000 into 2.0t l = 600-700ish HP, $5000 into my 7.5l 455 and i could easily get 1000+ hp. Granted, yes there's the AWD drive factor blah blah blah that could be argued forever, i'm just showing that when it comes to the LINE its much cheap and in my opinion much more fun to drive a muscle car with a heavy ass engine, heavy ass body and a rumbling body with so much power the chassis twists when you rev it....pure love.

what you need a fast car for ? There`s a speedlimit anyway ... except here in germany of course :D

But lemme tell you, 172mph (about 275km/h) may sound cool but when you actually drive it its scary ... ok, granted i didn`t drive myself but just the chance of a truck pulling out in front of you at 55mph can give you great doubts if driving that fast is actually a good idea.

One time i visited some friends about 300km away ... on the way there i went as fast as possible ... on the way back i kept a steady 130-140 km/h ... guess what, it took me a whole FIFTEEN MINUTES longer ... and i only used 7L / 100 instead of 12L ...

Transformer I may fly the flag for jap/euro motors but, yes you are very correct about the cash needed to get the little turbo lumps up to a decent amout of power, and i would absolutly love to have a big V8 muscle car for straight line runs, but have you seen the cost of petrol in the UK, nearly a pound a litre!!

If petrol prices ever come down in this country, which i doubt, then bugger all the tree huggers i am gonna get myself a '67 split rear screen stingray, put a proper motor in it and drag it at the 1/4 mile and scare myself silly it it.

Actually, there are some good handling American cars. Ford GT comes to mind. Also... have you seen the new Z06? That thing is a monster in a straight and in the corners.

And about forced induction... fi doesn't necessarilly mean turbo. It could mean a super charger, which has no lag. You could also run a sequential twin-turbo with a blow-off valve to reduce the turbo lag to basically nothing.

elchi: There's two types of fast. Acceleration and top speed. Not too many people care about top speed, but a lot of people care about acceleration.

Dribble Joy
15-02-06, 18:59
I've completely forgotten why a turbo is ever used over a super....

PepsiPlayer
15-02-06, 19:13
Simple. A turbo will compress air using waste exhust gases, because these gases are waste and they exit the exhust system anyway they do not need any anything else to power them, just the natural flow of gas.

Fine in principle, but a turbo needs to be spun up to speed before it starts to produce power, so you get lag (a delay in boost pressure) but it will continue to output the same pressure regardless of revs, usually 2500 rpm to 7000+rpm

Superchargers on the other hand work by mechanical force, ie they are driven from the revalutions of the engine. Benefits here are instant power with no lag, but as the revolutions increase it takes more energy to turn and compress the air in the charger as it gets more dense, so it actually starts to put more strain on the engine slowing the revolutions and eventually needing more power inputted than it outputs. Or summut like that. You should get the idea anyway, i hope

i drive the Nissan Primera (about 2 yrs old), dad says topspeed is 208, but Im sure it can go way faster than that, cuz i put the pedal to the metal once for less than 10 seconds (while driving 130) and i was at 190, went there easy, so 208 should be easy to get.

I had to drive from eindhoven to utrecht (halfway the country), ppl said it'd take 1 hour and 45 minutes. i drove with 140-150 km/h on the way there, didnt take 105 minutes..
on the way back (at 2 in the night) i drove 170 km/h, took me 1 hour and 15 minutes.

reason why i didnt drive faster:
if I got busted by the cops, while driving 170 or faster, I'd loose my license, in holland u loose ur license at 50 km/h faster than the limit. but we get 5 km/h compensation, so Im thinking 170 is allowed.
still, it'll cost you SHITLOADS of money to pay the fine.
a girlfriend of mine (with big boobs) did this:
- speeding
- drinking and driving (she was... well... wasted)
- driving on the middle of the road, not on the right side
- sending text message on phone (illegal in holland)
- ignoring stop signs / red light
- being followed by the cops for 20 minutes :D
did she lose her license? no, cuz she has boobs, fucking bullshit.
she had to pay 300 euro. bullshit if u ask me.

speeding is fun, but only do it when theres no1 in front of u or behind u, so you cant disturb others with speeding.
(and dont do it with cops around, or cameras)

the wise iCe has spoken.

hmm, i was always thinking of driving to germany and then hit the 200 km/h.
i drive the Nissan Primera (about 2 yrs old), dad says topspeed is 208, but Im sure it can go way faster than that, cuz i put the pedal to the metal once for less than 10 seconds (while driving 130) and i was at 190, went there easy, so 208 should be easy to get.

its not neccesarly how fast it gets there....all thew newage cars...bout 1985+ have a govenor in the ECU that'll limit how fast your car goes...i only know them in MPH...now i don't know shit about the cars made for UK but the only exception i konw of is directly imported german cars come without a govenor.

unfortunatly for me though, my car doesn't have a govenor...my engine will just blow lol

Lysholm supercharger (which is actually dying  )

Nice luxury car that can cook some serious shit when its not acting old.

I think you guys in the EU call it a Eunos or something...

Limiters in the Eu/Germany stop the car at 155 mph (248 kph).
It depends on the car though. Mercs and BMWs seem to have them but not Porches and things.

Getting my bug fixed is the first thing I want to do, but either an exige or a top quality elise is what I want in the future. If only as a track car.

But not terribly legal to do so...

didn't say they weren't, i'm saying my car doens't have an ECU in the first place. They weren't exactly using ECU's in 1974.

@ dribbs, its not illegal to flash/modify the ECU, just still has to meet emission regulations. (at least in Kentucky, US)

Dribble Joy
16-02-06, 04:10
Wait... what's the ECU?

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to remove the speed limiters fitted to EU cars.

Transformer
16-02-06, 04:19
An ECU is the Electronic Control Unit. In a car it controls the fuel injection, ignition and all other stuff including the govenor that limits how fast the car will go before turning off. You can remove the govenor by flashing the ECU which basically keeps all the programming the same except you can remove the govenor so you can go as fast as desired. If you car has a stock turbo on it i.e. a VW 1.8t, that usually runs about 4-5ish PSI stock, you can mod the ECU to push up the PSI to whatever you want as long as the turbo and block can withstand the pressure.

Lesson for the day is not over ^^.

Pity the puma uses the escort chassis :p.

There was a Puma ST (ST160) but I've only ever seen one in England, and it was left hand drive...I think they only released it in Holland or something...Apparently it's a pretty damn nice car :p

Was always a fan of the Mk3 Fiesta RS Turbo (not the chavved up ones tho) and the ST24 and 200's.

Another reason to have Turbo's over Super's, is that you can double up, quad up etc, you can only ever have one Supercharger (or is it two?). And dump valves are always fun :D.

Oh, and my Defender passed the MOT :p, I honestly don't know how I survived without wheels...

Lotus Exige / Elise .... mmmmmmh, now thats a cool car :)

I recently saw the Top Gear episode where they take an Apache helicopter and try to get a missile lock on an Exige ... hilarious :D

And now that we`re in the realm of fun cars ...

It's typical brittish humour with tests that actualy give you some real info.

The puma FRP (ST160). That is indeed one sexy car. Only 500 ever made, and all with righthand steering :( I'd do anything to get one of those.
