At the end if the month i'm replacing my old but not really crappy pc with this new setup :

P4 3ghz 800fsb
Gigabyte S775 mobo SLI, Gigabit lan, Sata2 raid
2x512MB ram @ 667MHz
Gigabyte GF 7800GT 256MB (not teh best but a very good card none the less)
2x Maxtor 160GB Sata2 (on striped raid)
and the bit i love the most...... Acer 32" widescreen LCD HD Ready TV
plus the usual roms and peripherals etc.

I cant wait to try nc and battlefield on that screen :)

The things I would change are the CPU (X2 3800+. I love mine in my server), and more ram (2x 1024MB)

I would but the cost of the tv means i'm gonna have to wait to get more ram. And the processor will be just fine.

I've had that proscessor for 2+ years now, and no it won't be "just fine". A athlon 64 3000+ is alot faster then this.

Mobile amd 2500+ overclocked from 1833 to 2500mhz (i crash sometimes from overheating).

L12 pinmod on cpu socket

1gig of ram and no swapfile at all on any drives.

6 harddrives and a tapestreamer

2 psu's

6800 videocard with 256 ram

No special drivers and it's in need of a reinstall since the os is about a year old and is starting to boot slow.

Zalman is a bit on the hard side to install, But I had a TT cooler on my P-4 and it sounded like a jet taking off and also ran hot.. switched to the Zalman VF700-Cu, abit on the large size and I had to disable the fan alarm since it has a slow RPM even at the fastest setting.... But it runs 10 degrees cooler then the motherboard now and I can't even hear it.

No, actualy the X2 3800+ was my first AMD (since my old ass 1.4 athlon) and then I made a 64 3000+ for a friend. I'm just saying that you will NOT like the 3.0 P4. If your going Intel atleast get a newer one, this one is complete crap compared to all the others of the time (Intel or AMD).

@ the zalman comment. its more then a bitch to install and even if i would go trough the hassle it would hang on just 2 screws while my tt will hang on 6 clips.. i rather prefer the tt.. and i got a "silentboost" it aint that load.. and on that note i have a total of 9 fans / coolers in my comp. sound aint a issue tbh :)

@ the p4 comment. here @ work we have the p4 3.0 ghz socket 775 to.. its an ok proc. tho as said the newer lines of amd are way faster and cheaper. and 1 gb of ram is more MORE then enuff.. i still had 512 before my comp broke down and ran everything just fine.

Indeed true but the p4 3ghz will me more than capable of handling the tasks i'll mainly be using it for, which in gaming terms is neocron2 and the odd bit of battlefield2 (tho not very much of the latter).
Atleast untill one of the evaluation cpus we get from intel becomes available at work, then i'll rob/borrow one of those.

Ahh, I thought you were talking about the socket 478 3.0 (what I have). The newer Intels are a hell of alot better. The only thing I liked about this processor was the fact that I could over clock it to 3.6 with just a good heat sync and fan and the heat would stay around 40c. But it was still alot slower even over clocked to 3.6 then alot of the other processors of the time.

True not now.. but since my mobo and proc died i had to buy a new mobo and proc. so i had to buy pcie.. and i aint gonna buy a 6800 card what i already had for a year. needed to get new stuff so just went for a 7800 GT

maybe there is no need for it now but in the future there is. and aint gonna replace the vid for the comming years.. i had to upgrade anyway so do it good then not half upgrade now and again in a year :p

What a difference a card makes... In my rig, I put a Geforce 5600 in place of my ati 9200. My framerate at 1280*1024 is now constantly around 80. Sexual. the card is still a bit low end for the machine, but I'm not much for powerplay - I'd like a new card in a month or so, but I'm very happy with this one :D

It'll be getting some serious tuning in the next few months, however.

The only reason i have a 7800gt was because the 6800GT GS Edition AGP by Gainward sold for the same amount as a BFG 7800GT OC edition, so meh i got a free upgrade!
