View Full Version : Which is a better Graphics card?
Hello, someone wants to swap my Geforce FX 5950 Ultra for his ati radeon 9600XT.
Please tell me which one is better!
Name Core clock (MHz) Pixel pipelines Peak fill rate (Mpixels/s) Texture units per pixel pipeline Textures per clock Peak fill rate (Mtexels/s) Memory clock (MHz) Memory bus width (bits) Peak memory bandwidth (GB/s)
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5950 Ultra 475 4 1900 2 8 3800 950 256 30.4
ATI Radeon 9600 XT 500 4 2000 1 4 2000 600 128 9.6
Judging by that, I'd say the Nvidia card. 256-bit memory vs 128-bit alone is a lot better. You're going to get a lot of 'opinion' answers on this (Nvidia fans vs ATI fans) - but those are the facts :)
The Nvidia card by a very large amount.
Definitly the 5950, but not as much as you would think in the more modern games.

the 5950 would run better higher fps but radeon will look better, You may not want to down grade . why dont u just sell it to him for $120 and go buy a radeon 9800 xp or better :) (radeon rocks my sox)
or just a 6600gt.... :)
Get just under 4k 3dmarks 05 with mine on my socket a system with generic ram and everything. Oh and i can actualy play fear with good fps on medium settings.

That's not worth the swap.
Only thing that the FX series lacked really was shader performance (not a great deal of that in NC2).
Just try not to go too close to Half Life 2 ;)

lol
fear got pretty bad performance in general :p
Besides, not much graphics difference between low and highest settings, not what I can tell ^^
Ok, I'll tell him to sling his hook !
It's important to think about the noise too. There are some good 6600GT's fanless !

I notice a big diffrence, though not a big as in BF2. Weird thing is i get half the fps when my cpu is clocked 200 mhertz lower. mmmm....
If your saving money though you can turn a reg 6600 into a nearly full 6600gt, by modding it. Think it might need a small volt mod though.
