View Full Version : Why do certain weapon animations lag people out?
Well this is something that has increased for me after evo2.1. Certain weapon
animations make my fps drop to zero, sometimes freezing my screen for up to
two seconds.
Some of these are Particle Nemesis (worst of all), HL, Copbot Rifle & Devourer
but it's not as bad as the others.
A particle nemesis beam thingy doesnt really look like it's all that much more
information being shown then say a healing light, yet somehow manages to
freeze up my entire system because of the rendering.
For evo2.2 whenever that may be, could you please look into the weapon animations
as It's kinda hard to opwar atm or even fight when a droner with PN is around
or there is more then three HL spamming monks.
Maybe I'm the only one getting this? But I doubt it, I recall the old lag threads
from when devourer was first implemented.

you forgot the "why" part of it...
as it is, your answer is like "why do salmon swim upstream?" "No"
:p
No problems here.

actualy the answer to it is
BUY A BETTER PC U CHEAP BAR STUARD
^_^ but no is just as good imo
Sounds like that old copbot issue, when copbots shot fps was nerfed.
I've not had these kind of problems though. What DX you playing in?
Turn your shit down in card settings thats all there is too it.
Well computer is following
AMD64 3000 (1.8 ghz) Unclocked atm.
1024 Corsair DDR400 PC3200
GeForce 6600GT
80GB 7200rpm Harddrive
WinXP x64
DirectX 9.0c
My card settings are all set to performance. I'm using a couple of older drivers
because the latest ones give me a whole shitload of graphicsal issues. I am using
officiall drivers though.
Running 1024x768 in DX9 mode. I get around 30-50 fps just running around the
wastes, 15-30 when I'm fighting unless the above mentioned weapons are
being used then it's 0-10 fps (mostly below 5).

Anyone remember the old copbot rifles?
They used to do this too iirc :P
your problem is AMD, tut tut should have bought pentium
This is not lag.
"LAG" only refers to NETWORK issues (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lag)
Computer going "outbreathed" while playing a game is more hardware-related problem, or at least is concerning OS performances.
About AMD, I'm using a Sempron for NC, which is known to be even worse than an Athlon afaik ; globally your machine is way better than mine, though I rarely have any problems of that kind.
uhm gfx lag?
Yeah the devourer and copbot rifles froze time. And not at your advantage

Ive noticed this too very slightly.
Only with the devourer, it used to be quite nasty lag wise, but with Evo 2 if you run into the flame residue it seems to give you a massive burst of fps lag.

Buy more ram (TM)
Ive got more ram then you :p
Well I've tried fiddling around with all sorts of settings, but the main problem
still remains. Particle Nemesis gives by far the worst fps drop, followed by HL.
Devourer is not really a big problem for me, I just included it because it gives
a slight drop, same with copbot rifles.
I've never had this problem to this extent. Pre evo I would lag every once &
a while but it was mostly because I was out of mem & needed to restart client,
but now I can have all the mem in the world free as it seems and it's still there.
I'm just hoping that evo2.2 will bring new weapon animations, seeing as how some
of the old ones could use with an upgrade anyway to bring them inline with
the new leet models.
Hmm particle nemesis doesnt drop my fps. But devs fuck it up completely. When duelling my hit rate sinks by 50% or more because of the fps loss and i get crappy movement...really bad. Its like the old copbot rifles :(
Everything else is ok
AMDs are made by orcs in new zealand

AMD > Intel
ATI > nvidia (well eventually they will be again +P)
As for the thread when was the last time you defragged with a decent prog, not just windows defragmenter?

He has a good point.

Want to bet on that? (http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/11/21/the_mother_of_all_cpu_charts_2005/page29.html)
And ya i dont know about nc2.1 becouse i didnt stay around to long, but the hl does lag me a bit.... only when im being shot though.
The dev is the worst for me though. PN ive never realy noticed.
Well, the partition that has NC on it is about 2 weeks old so I doubt it's very
fragmented. Last time I installed windows was about two months ago though
so the win partition might be fragmented, but It's never been like this before
and I havent defragmented once in my life :p I just reformat :)

Eh I've got nearly the exact same specs as you, just either older/cheaper versions. Like my processor is an Athlon 3000+ Barton, I don't know what brand my gig of ram is, same Graphics Card and a 3 year old 40GB harddrive that has corrupted sectors on it.
Yet I usually get a constant 62 fps around the wastes, if not, dropping to about 50. I get no lag from any weapons at all and in fights it usually hover someplace around 20-30.
Though all my drivers are upgraded to generally the newest ones out, maybe you should try the latest NVidia drivers again?
i cant even fight dev tanks. they start firing one of those i go from 60 to 3 FPS.
its the reason tanks use them these days...

very true

Well I tried the newest nvidia drivers last week and they didnt work very well,
not sure why but I get polygons flying all over the place with them. I also did
a few searches on internet and it seems many are having those probs. These
are the x64 drivers though so the x32 ones might be ok.
Well running around the wastes I would say I averege out somewhere around
45 fps, 30 being lowest & 60 highest (I just saw I wrote 50 earlier, typo, was
suppose to be 60). I get 30 if I'm running around with a bunch of other people
but mostly it's good.
When I'm fighting I'll get 15-30 depending on how big a fight it is, but as I said
earlier as soon as there is one of those weapons (pirmarily PN/HL) I might aswell
log off.
I think i'll try reinstalling windows or something.
