Black Screen of Death

Seeeing how there's no technical help section...

Logging in and getting to the character selection screen is fine now (had problems when using the old NC2 -> patched 2.1, DLed the new 2.1 full client). However...

I CAN NOT GET PAST SYNCHRONIZING

If anyone could tell me the common causes of this... It'd be extremely helpful. People that I've talked to say my character is "in game" when I'm in synch, I just can never get past that, and eventually it'll just kick me back to the main login screen again. I've opened ports, tried different local ports, disabled firewall / unplugged router and plugged straight into the net, reinstalled vid drivers, network drivers, client, tried window / full...

If there're anything left that I should know please tell... At this rate, I'm definitely not gonna be staying if I can't even play when I want to :mad:

Strange "black screen of death" symptom.

On this laptop (dell inspiron 8500 with an old Nvidia Geforce 4200 go) it takes me >5mn to get to the login screen, and >15mn to pass the initial load/sync.

After that, in-game experience is ok.

(What was the command again to see the stats ?)

My other laptop (inspiron 9100 with ATI 9700) runs fine.

Too long I haven't played lol

So I have around 15 fps ingame, for 200 ping (which is ok, given the GPU).

But doesn't explain why it takes soooo long to load/boot.

I deactivated the FW of course ...

No expert here but sure load up time can be affected by what your running in the background and maybe how much RAM u got. Try shutting all other stuff before loading, NEVER takes me more than 1 min to load to login even with Splash screens etc.

fyi, it still takes me ... 45mn to log on this lappy, so any help would be really welcome ...

I noticed it creates a models.tmp file in the neocron directory.

Is it supposed too ?

Is it possible to re-force the initial file compression ?
(I think to recall that in nc2 there was a command like client.exe -compress)

I would like to redo that.
Don't know why, but feel something went wrong there ...

Solved my problem.

Outlook runing in the background was causing it.

(Don't see how ? Me neither :p )

nc now loads within minutes.
