What part of a computer do they mess with exactly?
I'm talking UK 240V power supply.
Basically every part that gets power ... but a good PSU should be able to protect everything ...
Or get a small UPS they`re not that expensive anymore

240V will cause less dmg than 120V, as the current is much less, however, a powersurge could break any tiny part of the comp, which will probably render it useless. As allready said, it depends on your PSU quality, getting a surge blocker may help.

you can buy a surge protector for around £30 at dixons, or was last time I looked, and I dont mind hooking my PC and a stereo (around £2000 worth of equipment) to it! Plus I think it has a warrenty for £15,000 if any gets damaged through a surge!

So if i wanted to find out which component has been rendered inoperable I'd have to swap the individual components with an identical machine (which I have)?
Wouldnt mind finding out which parts are salvagable.
