last sat my norton 2004 ran out. so had no more updates. a well i thought i'd install norton 2005 next weekend ( was away this weekend so couldn't )

just clicked on a wrong link.

10 more processes.
3 programs installed.
desktop went to active and displays a site giving a warning i got spyware.
internet page is the same shit spyware crap.
some anti spyware program suddenly started to scan my comp. never had that program installed tho so it came with the virus.. it found 20 things in 5 seconds to lol.

a well.. installed norton 2005 and updated it ( removed comp out of network when it started just put it back to update norton )

scanning now but prob will take an hour or 2/3 managed to backup my my docs and outlook files. got those on usb stick and onto my laptop.. doubt norton and adware can clear all the shit up but don't wanna reinstall gonna take me ages to reconfig :(

a well lucky i still got my laptop lol.

norton is free to ;x

saved all my docs and exported my outlook to a .pst file moved everything trough a usb stick to my laptop so thats save.

norton found 13 files. 2 files are removed. 1 of them being a remote admin program... lucky i disconnected my comp from the net right away anyway. maybe i should switch on my firewall in the router :p

it couldn't remove all the other files but i saw half of them were the filenames of the processes running so i just booted in save mode now norton is scanning again hopefully its able to remove the rest of the crap now. then i dun have to reinstall the whole thing :p

Ill add my 2 cents lol, Id say use Panda, Ive used it for two years, not had a major virus in that time! Yeah it does cost money, but it also uses barely any resources, and can actively look for malicious code!

But meh if your not willing to pay lol...

If you are looking for something that doesnt use alot of resources and still does
a great job, try Nod32.

http://www.nod32.com

I believe they have a freeware version.

[edit]
They didnt have a freeware, but they do have a 30 day trial.

I dont like avast. That thing has like 6 diffrent things running at all times and when combined they take more resources to run then every other visable process combined, and then some. Seemed to catch alot of spyware though.

I use NOD32 after it was recommended by Duplex. Works like a charm and no resource usage at all. Alternativley you can try bitdefender or kasperskey (dunno about there resource usage there online scanners are pretty neat especially when norton dont find something.) Oh and if you are a norton fan stick to corporate scanner. Ive pretty much dumped there systemworks except the ghost.
