I've been in an IRC discussion about computer security when someone like this comes along. Seeing as I was the channel newbie (I was talking with people that dealt with security in banks and such like), they allowed me to "deal" with this l33t hakz0r who claimed to have hacked his next door neighbours wireless connection and linked it through to his router so he could download stuff and hack places. His threats were fine, till he assured me there was nothing I could do to get him offline, and he invited me to try by any means possible (which meant what I was about to do was legal ;) ).

Unfortunately for him, his uber Cisco router hadn't been updated to the latest firmware, so I sent him a Ping of Death to port 80, which caused it to crash

Needless to say, he didn't come back anytime soon

<JonJonB> Purely in the interests of science, I have replaced the word "wand" with "wang" in the first Harry Potter Book
<JonJonB> Let's see the results...

<JonJonB> "Why aren't you supposed to do magic?" asked Harry.
<JonJonB> "Oh, well -- I was at Hogwarts meself but I -- er -- got expelled, ter tell yeh the truth. In me third year. They snapped me wang in half an' everything

<JonJonB> A magic wang... this was what Harry had been really looking forward to.

<JonJonB> "Yes, yes. I thought I'd be seeing you soon. Harry Potter." It wasn't a question. "You have your mother's eyes. It seems only yesterday she was in here herself, buying her first wang. Ten and a quarter inches long, swishy, made of willow. Nice wang for charm work."
<JonJonB> "Your father, on the other hand, favored a mahogany wang. Eleven inches. "

<JonJonB> Harry took the wang. He felt a sudden warmth in his fingers. He raised the wang above his head, brought it swishing down through the dusty air and a stream of red and gold sparks shot from the end like a firework, throwing dancing spots of light on to the walls

<JonJonB> "Oh, move over," Hermione snarled. She grabbed Harry's wang, tapped the lock, and whispered, 'Alohomora!"

<JonJonB> The troll couldn't feel Harry hanging there, but even a troll will notice if you stick a long bit of wood up its nose, and Harry's wang had still been in his hand when he'd jumped - it had gone straight up one of the troll's nostrils.

<JonJonB> He bent down and pulled his wang out of the troll's nose. It was covered in what looked like lumpy gray glue.

<JonJonB> He ran onto the field as you fell, waved his wang, and you sort of slowed down before you hit the ground. Then he whirled his wang at the dementors. Shot silver stuff at them.

<JonJonB> Ok
<JonJonB> I have found, definitive proof
<JonJonB> that J.K Rowling is a dirty DIRTY woman, making a fool of us all
<JonJonB> "Yes," Harry said, gripping his wang very tightly, and moving into the middle of the deserted classroom. He tried to keep his mind on flying, but something else kept intruding.... Any second now, he might hear his mother again... but he shouldn't think that, or he would hear her again, and he didn't want to... or did he?
<melusine > O_______O
<JonJonB> Something silver-white, something enormous, erupted from the end of his wang

<JonJonJonB> Then, with a sigh, he raised his wang and prodded the silvery substance with its tip.

<JonJonJonB> 'Get - off - me!' Harry gasped. For a few seconds they struggled, Harry pulling at his uncles sausage-like fingers with his left hand, his right maintaining a firm grip on his raised wang.

<VioletSky> That's not true, I know him well
<Nori123> Haha
<VioletSky> I'm serious
<VioletSky> Jack is the son of Awe Schitt and O. Schitt. Awe Schitt, the fertilizer magnate, married O. Schitt, the owner of Needeep N. Schitt Inc. They had one son, Jack. In turn Jack Schitt married Noe Schitt, the deeply religious couple produced 6 children
<VioletSky> Holie Schitt, Fulla Schitt, Giva Schitt, Bull Schitt, and the twins: Deap Schitt and Dip Schitt. Against her parents' objections, Deap Schitt married Dumb Schitt, a high school drop out.
<VioletSky> However, after being married 15 years, Jack and Noe Schitt divorced. Noe Schitt later remarried Ted Sherlock and, because her kids were living with them, she wanted to keep her previous name.
<VioletSky> She was then known as Noe Schitt-Sherlock. Meanwhile, Dip Schitt married Loda Schitt and they produced a son of nervous disposition, Chicken Schitt.
<VioletSky> Two other of the 6 children, Fulla Schitt and Giva Schitt, were inseparable throughout childhood and subsequently married the Happens brothers in a dual ceremony.
<VioletSky> The wedding announcement in the newspaper announced the Schitt-Happens wedding. The Schitt-Happens children were Dawg, Byrd, and Hoarse.
<VioletSky> Bull Schitt, the prodigal son, left home to tour the world. He recently returned from Italy with his new Italian bride, Pisa Schitt.
<VioletSky> So there.

lol, at that point the admin password is default and you can log on to the router as user: admin passwd: admin, when ur logged you have about 10 minutes to download the pwd file and after that you let j0hn the ripper decrypt it ;D and when the router is back online you'll have complete control of it, you can open a wingate or do whatever u want ;)

must say that cisco sucks at these things.. ;)

Morganth

must say that cisco sucks at these things.. ;)

A properly maintained network with a Cisco back bone is fine. If you had an IDS in place you wouldn't even get close to touching the router, plus they'd most likely have everything being forwarded through various firewalls and filters that will divert network traffic left, right and centre, making it very difficult to connect directly to the router

ZoraN

Yea thats true but you need to be a bit more andvanced computer user to set up a network like that, I mean the thing you just mentioned is probably not the first thing a normal pc user would think of when they buy a router, right? :)

Yeah, plus they tend to be a bit more expensive. That kind of setup goes nicely with multiple hardware firewalls with all users logging in using RSA keys or swipe cards :p

i work in for a bank... you think the people in our call centres know anything about that?

callcentres are full of low paid temps. our department gets 5-10 phone calls a day from our off shore ( ) callcentre asking what to do in this situation... then asking if they are actually allowed to do it...

kinda makes it a waste of time shipping the jobs off to somewhere with cheap labour if we have to spend time doing their jobs doesnt it?

tried to post this without being political about jobs going to other countries :p
