View Full Version : Your Connection Speed.
What do you play Neocron 2 with? a 56k connection, or are you on broadband up to 2 megs? or are you one of those psychos who run on a 4mb+ line?
Just a quick poll to find out how many of you are on 56k or BB really.
I voted 4meg, but it's infact 10mbit or 1.2meg.... didnt read properly
This will be interesting
Can you guess why i started this? ;)

Cable 3meg down, 256Kbs up. Or something like that. So I voted 2+
And yes, I still suck at PvP.
I also have login problems every once in a while. More so lately.

My friend used to play on a 28.8kb connection.
3MB/s here, which at the start of the year was 1MB/s until my ISP secretly upgraded me twice :p
With a game like this, overall connection speed doesn't really matter since the game uses only so little bandwidth, only ping matters. So as far as one has a good quality digital line, there isn't much difference compared to others (counting out physical distance to the server).
2000/512 kable
well down isnt really interesting in germany. its hard to get speed lower them 2mb. in the next month they raise speed to match the DSL contitions that are around up to 3-6 mb
....until my ISP secretly upgraded me twice :p
that bastard

PvP (duels at least) is perfectly doable at 180 ping on dial-up, DL speed is pretty much irrelevant for gameing.
There's no option on the poll for between 56k and 512k
I'm on 256k

Doh, i forgot about 256k users, Nid, if you wander by this thread could you change the 512k option to 256k please?
Mr Kot, please use the 512k option :)

;) If I were to use dialup here, my ping would be in the 400 range.
My cable latency is right around 160 - 190 most of the time. Rarely spiking into 200.
But, I still suck at PvP, it's not related to my ping.

I got two connections, a:
2mbit/384
and a
10mbit/2mbit
2.5mbps down/384kbps up. my ping is the only issue here, im west coast US and around 180-220 pings are the norm, but it's quite doable. (also playing on a pc that needs force fog as close as possible to get an even half decent fps in wastes doesnt help;))
2mb line here.. /512 up..

1 Mbit down / 128k up (voted 512k)
256/128
But thats not the killer, it's the 12,834 miles (20,654 km) of copper and fibre-optic between me and the server!
(I will never be able to be truly competitive in PvP)
Speakeasy ADSL: 3Mbit/768kbit, 11 hops to NC servers, 100 to 120ms ping
Verizon ADSL: 1.5Mbit/384kbit, ~20 hops to NC servers, 110 to 140ms ping
since there wasnt anything high enought i took 4 mbit.
8 mbit / 1 mbit
1 Mb line.
Works fine for me, Unless i'm playing Musical chairs then lags a bit ;)
Wow, never realised so many people were on fast connections. 2 mbit here, but will drop it to 1mbit soon as its just not needed other than for illegal downloads (which I don't do).
I believe in the UK we have just reached a majority on broadband, although for a lot of people that is your basic adsl 256 or 512 mbit, often slowed by local exchanges.
I hear a lot of complaints on my Ventrilo about Telewest Blueyonder, which I am on, however in 5 years they have only been down once to my knowledge. They are now quite expensive relative to other ADSLs but I hear they might offer another free upgrade soon.
Sweden got cheap broadband :D
10Mbit = about 20euro / month
100mbit = about 50Euro/ month

It's still 320 swedish for 10Mbit, perhaps you should check your math. ;)

Remember that sweden's internet structure is pretty much purpose built. Here in the UK we are still using the old copper networks (and that the speed of the UK broadband rollout has been insanely slow).
Franky, the vast majority of people don't know jack shit about the net, don't need more than 512kbs and are still willing to pay £15 a month for it.
People should not be suprised that AOL is hugely successful either.

I'm on BY too here in the UK, and I've never had any problems (well it fell out once for a couple of days a few years ago)...
You Scandinavians seem to have a sweet deal with Broadband, but from what Ive heard your booze is even pricier :p
I would use AOL if I did not have to use there shitty browser just to stay connected plus I remeber trying to play quake with AOL and it was unplayable lol

OMGWTF? Bastard.
512 here... should be upgraded to 1 or 2 meg soon (was meant to be this month but Tiscali are fucktards).
I use NTL, and at Xmas it was 1MB/s, and since then I've been upgraded twice to 3MB/s. Thats what you get for paying for their highest price-plan BB :p
