Well, I got a test picture, My first attempt at using a tablet (yes I got one, finally, 35bucks, used). Too bad I suck at it lol.
anywho, its one of my characters, particulary Clive, too bad Ive represented him with this picture.

like yer stuff DJ, and on the topic of buff women, there not bad lookin in my opinion ;)
Nice! this was a great opportunity to check if i still have ze sci-fi touch :)
It's been over a year since i've actually drawn anything else than website layouts or corporate logos. Anyway here's my spy, Parabellum.
http://personal.inet.fi/private/els/tinkering.jpg
He's usually planning or doing something evil, you know, spy stuff.
But in the end he always dies to some silly mistake :(
I'll draw one of my nubi melee tank also but right now im busy leveling the little mofo.
I just lost a duel to a Butchee..

cheers dude
Parabellum's left arm was twitching every time he was shooting his rifle and it messed up his aim.. So he got a better one. Silent Hunter hitting like a charm now ;)
I can make a thread (tutorial) about drawing similar stuff on other section if you like.

I'm crying here, nixon.
Even in my private sketches, of which I am *very* reluctant to show people, I can't even come one-tenth of the way you can draw power-armors.
Well, there was the spy in PA one I did a while ago, but even that wasn't as cool as your spy one.
Please tell me you're a pro artist or something.

Hi :)
This isn't a competition you guys! Comparing yourself to others so agressively won't do anything but make you feel worse about yourselves!
I think what you guys should do instead, is think about what you like about each picture that someone posts (including your own!). How did the artist accomplish what you find attractive; was it through clever use of shading, the attention to detail, the general idea, or something else? Use the things that you liked in other pictures as a guide to improve your own doodles. If you keep adding, expanding, and highlighting things you like to your pictures and make a habit out of it - you'll be that much more fond of your work when it's done!
Besides, you're like the four or five people who constantly post their doodles in this thread - that makes you all winners in my book!
DJ - I would have to agree with the others about your doodles's muscular structure looking pretty overly-defined and masculine! I think this might be because you're drawing lines where her muscles are. The contrast from the white of the paper instantly to the darkness of the pencilmark is enough to make anything stand out! I don't really think those muscle-lines are necessary, from my limited knowledge of the triathlete figure from (http://jessistensland.com/exec/jessi/storyimages/ACF494B.jpg) google's (http://www.louisgarneau.com/media/usa_images/triathlete_x_pro_monokini.jpg) image (http://www.dbs.ucdavis.edu/grad/exs_sci_gg/images/triathlete.jpg) search (http://www.aussiebodies.com.au/resources/tamekamar05.jpg)! I bet if you tried lightly shading your doodles, instead of drawing the muscle lines, you would get the fit and tough body type that you're aiming for, while at the same time adding depth and elegance to your pictures!
Clive - That's amazing for the first time with a drawing tablet! I had such a difficult time drawing in one area while seeing the picture somewhere else on my first time, it took so long just to get over that! I love the shading and the unique pose and angle. I can't wait to see more of your adventures with the tablet!
Nixon - Wow, you're mighty talented! I would love to see a tutorial, I'm sure it would help all of us so much! Your pictures (so far) are really dark and dreary, so expressive and in with NC's themes, but also so depressing! arrhrghgh!
Here's my doodle, a black dragon psi monk!
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/mawee03/blackdragon.jpg
I don't really like the face, the hair, or what she's doing with the healy psi spell, but I think everything else came out very nicely! I like the qipao that she's wearing, and the multi-layered dress coupled with the non-symmetrical style of clothing really makes her seem very gypsy-like, which is what I was aiming for! I definately think I'll color this one in and slap a background on it (the first time for what, months?), I think it'll look really awesome!
Looking forward to seeing other doodles!
Here it is now, my lil' tanky tank mr. Nixon himself.. taking a little smokebreak after beating warbot into pile of buzzing garbage.

I don't like shading, it's really to hard to get right with scanned pencil drawings.
I might try a shadgin with PS, but I'd have to ink the pic first and that's even harder to get right.

Nixon, your colored tank picture is superb. I've set it as my desktop.
I really, REALLY like how, in the background, you've suggested landscape features without going into great detail. Simply beautiful. The way you've shaded the ground, giving it a lot of depth, is wonderful too. I really get a 3d feel and a desert-like climate.

Hhehe, TO what Rosey had said earlier about this not being a competition and it shouldnt be, shes absolutly right.
As for myself though in my 20 years of existance, almost every activity that Ive performed in (such as sports or arts) has been in done through jelousy (I know, its sad) Mostly because I see myself as not being usefull. I push myself to be better, sorta like Im maximizing my chances for survival I guess if you wanna think primal about it. When I see work like Nixons, I cant really help but admire and want to do better, and then I set my standards higher lol.
Ahh well, to hell with hapiness, Embrace embrace life long perpetiual study :D

Firstly guys and gals i want to say well done all your pictures including the stickmen drawings are great.
I spotted this thread last weekend while at work and spent all last weekend and most of today not doing any work at all but reading every single post and with 520+ posts thats a lot of reading.
I am realy impressed with all the talent out there and insanely jealous as i cant draw anything at all.
But you have started something in me, something has stired deep inside my soul and i have just been out and bought a doodle pad and set of pencils so that while im working away (which is most of the week every week) i can start to learn and hopefully get better.
A big massive thankyou has got to go out to sunny for starting this thread it has been the best, most informative and at times funniest thread i have ever read on this forum. so THANKYOU.
well if all goes well i hope to be able to post a drawing myself soon but dont be suprised if it takes a couple of years for me to learn how to get the lead to come out the end of the pencil :D
Once again well done all.

Hi :)
DJ - you definately should try inking one of your doodles, I bet it would look really nice! If you're not up to the task (though you really should give it a shot at least once, if you haven't already!) I'd be more than happy to try it and see how it looks :)
Spike, you have a really well fortified style. I love how you started off by drawing stick figures, and then expanded and added detail with the PA. That's a totally awesome skill to have, because it really helps you visualize what you're drawing before it's down on paper! I'm also in love with how much detail you put into the pictures - you can see all of the wires, buttons, and those little grate and vent things! Your cannon is also really cool, it is slightly cartoonish but it's so charming and captivating :)
Clive! You're true to yourself, what an admirable quality! Jealousy can be a motivation to do stuff, but it's so easy to let it get the best of you! As long as you're using jealousy and competition as a method to learn and grow as opposed to humilitating your opponent and getting angry, it can be a great thing! :)
Uh oh nellus, it looks like your creativity juices are flowing! I can't wait to see what you've got bubbling in your brain :) Thanks for your kind words! It's so nice of you to say and it really really means a lot to me! I totally can't wait to see your ideas!!
First up I have a colored-in version of my previous doodle. I'm not too sure if I like it!
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/mawee03/blackdragoncolor.jpg
I focused on creating textures and fabrics this time, as opposed to just adding color. Of course I really really should have started that idea with a little bit less fabric-intensive outfit, this one took forever to do! I'll try the same methods on another doodle and then decide whether or not to keep doing it.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/mawee03/blindfolded.jpg
Here's a quickie generic psi monk with a more flash-suitable shading style (which I don't like)! I really love the whole idea of psi monks being mysterious, much more than I like the idea of them being shamanistic. It's just a shame that it's so hard to convey mystery and intruige through an outfit (please please prove me wrong! :)), other than through the use of blindfolds (http://www.visionarydance.com/SP_blindfolded_04.jpg) , bandit scarves (http://allterraincycles.co.uk/images/products/9221.jpg), hoods (http://www.bakedbeats.com/poptart/images/hood.jpg), and masks (http://www.polyclay.com/11mask.jpg). High, baggy collars, too, maybe!
And even then - since the world of neocron is dark, dangerous and dreary - psi monks should not be the only ones who can look mysterious and aloof!
Can't wait to see some more doodles!

Truth be told, NC isnt my only "other" project right now. Im also working on a webcomic this month (I hope to have the first strips up) Though its not based on NC itself, and its an original comic, I WILL have NC "filler days" or Dead Clive dayz, to quote megatokyo.
Im really impressed with the work nix is working on, as well as everyone elses work. Also, to why im not submitting anything now is because Im trying my best at this moment to build a Unreal map for my class tommorrow morning (the theme is a "ol' western town") and I need to get some basics outa the way.
(edit)-Honestly Im not sure about releasing the name of the comic just now, since the topic is a little ehh, and Im crappy at explaining ideas without sounding like an idiot or wierd, But anyways, my stuff will be hosted at Greaterevil.com, The comics name is "Anthro hell", Ill let you guys guess at it till I feel like explaining. Check out greater evil as well, I go to school (and party with) the guys and girls working the site and comic Always tommorrow, to bad KK updates more than they do :D

not sure which is better. Still need to get the hang on of colouring things, not to mention inking :p
You need some more cross-line shading on the face I think, other then that its nicely done.
Heavyporker
26-02-06, 20:57
yeah, ink lines on the crosshatching on the face seems too heavy. I suggest going down 3, 4 px on these lines. Sharper version seems much better. Also, psi-energy balls on hands seem.. a little mis-placed. Shoulder to hip proportion seems awkward, in my opinion.
Also, coloration just doesn't do it for me, for some reason.
SPIKE (pluto)
26-02-06, 22:14
Yeah the shading on the face did seem a bit off when doing it, but i cant do male faces very well yet, always get stuck on the hair.
I see what you mean about the psi energy aswell, might of drawn the arms positioning wrong, then again i just placed the psi energy where it seemed right, maybe i should've actualy looked where i was putting them :p

OK, this isn't an NC char, but it is one from my webcomic, though she's not in it yet.
If she seems even more buff than DJ.. then that's because she is...
While DJ may be a cybernetically enhanced merc, she's still human, this girl isn't... well not entirely. The ears, tooth, striped hair and slit pupils kinda give it away.
As with most of my pics, this looked a whole load better on paper, the proportionsare all wrong and the arms are just shit.

I have a very very small proposal for it, if you don't mind?
Clive tombstone
04-03-06, 20:21

Basically something that bothered me every time i looked at the sketch :)
Otherwise it's damn good but the placement of the other foot was the
thing so i decided to test and tweak around to see what is was..
http://personal.inet.fi/private/els/cliven_aija.jpg
This is what i mean :)
edit:
character's legs are usually the area where i get stuck from time to time.. only
thing to improve that is by drawing more and more until you don't even have
to think about how to draw a character to a certain position, you just do it..
other problem i often have is flat image.. when certain areas don't seem to
pop out in perspective like they should.

I like it DJ^^, its nice also that you have a trademark character for yerself.
Trademark is kinda putting it mildly, she's more a kind of parralell version of myself, which sounds wierder than it is.
The circumstances she comes about from are a bit.... odd. She's a mix of my own personality traits exagerated tenfold, plus a range of others and skills/abilities that I don't have, which tend to make her a little unhinged/stressed and frank;y, insane. I don't treat her very well either, if she were real I think she might kill me for what I put her through.

Hi you guys :)
Sorry I've faded out of existance for a while. We got a fancypants new computer and had a little bit of difficulty setting the thing up! Everything runs a lot smoother now (I'm really looking forward to being able to play Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion when it comes out next week, I totally loved Morrowind)
I have a lot of stuff to respond to! Long post ahead!
Here's a coloured image I did years ago, as you can see, not great.
What an amazingly great reason not to try again! I mean, there's no way that you could have improved over the past few years. And even if it's not up to your standards right now, practicing it will never ever improve it! I swear DJ, sometimes you can be so pessimistic and stubborn! Give it a shot, you really might be suprised!
Clive, I think that's a pretty cool doodle :) Maybe we both have differing views on the definition of bishonen - but I'd call both mine and your doodles more elegant than anything. When I think of bishonen, I think of extremely feminine (http://arania.kamiki.net/Fan%20Art%20and%20Commissions/Eros%20colored%20copy.jpg) ladylike (http://topbishonen.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/theguys.jpg) girly (http://www.aeug.org/~dvc/cel/cel7.jpg)... basically men that are completely unidistinguishable from women if you're looking at them from the neck up. Apparently people find that attractive? (WTF?) Or maybe I'm just in denial :P
Spike, I think that's a mighty cool doodle! I love how you made the cloak look a little bit less flat by both shading/highlighting it and also by drawing it with quick, small, angled strokes... It simulates folds and bends in the cloak really well! You also have a great grasp on the male figure! Though the lines might be a little itty bit too thick, they're all in exactly the right spot! The only thing that I would have to criticize is the cross-hatching under the cloak's hood! I think it detracts from the doodle because you sort of mixed two methods of shading. Did you sort of do it on impulse? I do that kind of stuff all the time, which is why I find that digitally redrawing my doodles with the pen tool really helps clean the picture up! I really can't wait to see your next doodles! :)
Nixon, cool doodle! I love all of the textures you put in, it adds so much to the doodle! It's a very dark and forboding piece, I think it's really cool!
Here's my most recent doodle - a NExT greasemonkey gal! I think it came out pretty well :)
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/mawee03/greasemonkey.jpg
I was aiming for sort of a cross between a parachute outfit and a motorcyclist jacket, mixed with girly-tomboyish traces and of course a huge elegant influence (she IS NExT of course! they must have a dress code!). I'm not sure if I'll end up coloring this one in, I'll probably just redraw her and finish that one!
I imagine that she spends more time in her workshop than anywhere else and not really into the whole political scene! I think that if I was ever to do an NC-based comic, she would definately be one of the main characters!
I think I've said all that I can possibly say! I'm really looking forward to seeing more people's doodles. The thread's been pretty quiet for the past few weeks, we should do something about that! :)

Sunny - pretty cute girl, but I'm simply not getting the "NExT Greasemonkey babe" vibe from her *at all*. Simply too elegant for a workshop, if you catch my drift. What respectable mechanic goes without a wrench, I tell you!
Dribble Joy - well, if you don't like what your drawings are now, why not just go in different directions, try to bust out some moves, like flowers/plants, cars, realistic sketches (use a mirror, watch TV or use the advertising catalogs like Sears' clothing - I find them an excellent source of 'models'.)
Clive - BAH! NO EXCUSES! Get back to work!
I've tried to 'ink' and color the hacker/crazy girl (the one with a vehicle wheel for a skirt) sketch of mine, but it's taking forever and not looking terribly good. No damn skill, I tell you. I think I'll just stick to pencil and paper!

Er... tits should not be so... floppy. By Crahn, these tits sag more than an eighty year old Zulu tribeswoman! Ouch. And hips need to be wider. Also, the "baggy fabric" effect you tried doesn't sit right at all.
You want baggy clothes, don't mark up the clothes in regular intervals, make the cloth curve in places.

The color palette you've chosen this time works very very well with the background :) I also totally love how you did the hair, the highlights really look great! The shading for the rest of the body is also great, it's subtle, but really adds a lot! The two belts around the torso are totally cool, too :)
Here's a great tutorial that'll help a lot with your anatomy (http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/farp/figure/williamlibodyconstruction.html)! It starts out with stick figures, and then expands upon it (just like you do now, I think!), but also includes a lot of information about proportioning and posing! I bet you'll love it, if you haven't already seen it! I would also recommend a hardwood mannequin (http://www.dickblick.com/zz216/01/) for the same purpose!
I think using references is a totally great way of fully understanding the human anatomy, like Clive said :)
I really like your doodles Spike! I can't wait to see the next idea that you come up with :)
Here's a melee tank (wearing a catsuit, might I add!) that I doodled. She was sensually holding the edge of the sword, but it looked pretty weird so I cropped it out.

that's supposed to be female?
Er... tits should not be so...
The sag probably comes from me trying to avoid sodomising my drawings, seems i over did it, i'll look into the hips too
thanks for the links sunny ill take a look at that and see if i can improve it a bit, though looking at the difference.
Also now i look at it, my drawings seem more impressive on paper in pencil than they do coloured in and inked :p

Wow Spike! What an improvement :)
I'm really in a rush ATM so I can't compliment you as much as I'd like, but I really think you have a great style! Your ideas are very unique, ultra-tough looking, and really exemplify NC's setting well, I think! I also really love how you always try to put something extra in your doodles - like this time it was rain, the desert smuggler had a mirage effect, and before that you had a blur, etc etc! You did a really great job on shading the pants too - the folds are all in the right spot!
Here's my most recent doodle:

Here's an exeptionally quick scetch of my 'super hero' team.
They have super powers, but they don't do hero stuff. Infact they rarely use their powers at all except when they have to, and it's usually a very bloody afair when they do (though that's mainly down to the girl and her habit of pulling limbs off rather than using her powers....).
'Tigga's' powers: Demi-god (near complete mastery of telekenetics), has a range of non-mental abilities, but irrelevant when you can freeze oceans for their thermal energy.
Matt's powers: Very high powered telepath, mid level telekenetic.
Typical tactics:
Matt forces images of 'Tigga's' last horrific butchery into the mind of the baddie. 'Tigga' then procedes to forcably extract various bones/organs from the poor bastard before he dies.
If 'Tigga' isn't lost in a rampage of rage and animalistic fury, then she'll just shear-force across their necks and watch their heads fall off.
I reffer to 'Tigga' as such, because her real name is too much of a spoiler.

That seems a bit serious tbh, i dont take art at college or anything, didnt take it at high school either, so it's just something to do for fun for me :p But i do want to go into the computer entertainment industry (game design, film Cgi sequences etc) so i guess it could be something to work on, but im still gonna draw anime for now, though its kinda simple and something you can learn to do quickly, its something ive always been interested in, which is fairly sad tbh but meh

quote/ 'Tigga's' powers: Demi-god (near complete mastery of telekenetics), has a range of non-mental abilities, but irrelevant when you can freeze oceans for their thermal energy. /end quote.
I want to be pedantic here. There is a significant difference between freezing the oceans, and withdrawing thermal energy from the oceans. The former requires tremendous expediture of energy to do so, the other acquires tremendous energy from doing so. Thus, edit that part, DJ.
Also, Sunny, quite nice. I can see that you're moving away a bit from your modelesque style. The skull is interestingly shaped, but everything else seems just a bit too normal (maybe the feet looks a bit larger, but hard to say)
Spike... neck looks too large, and proportion of arms seems a bit too long. Also, put a curve on the waist, or at least make the legs point a bit inwards. As it stands, she's got a man's posture, if you know what I mean. Overall, not too shabby. Try some action poses (like jumping, punching, walking, whatever). I find that it helps in getting the proportions better before I go for a frontal pose.

No, she literally has command over any and all kenetic energies, and can move them as she wishes. Meaning she can quite literally move that energy from one place to another.
Water holds an incredible amount of thermal energy (extremely high specific heat capacity), so is quite usefull (and it was just a somewhat dramatic example).

Yes, though I won't give you the url atm becuase A: I need to send more semi-threatening mails to my domain provider and B: the artwork and writing quality is just not up to scratch yet.
The girl in the pics won't feature for ages, and she's not a near omnipotent being to begin with, she starts out just being able to make small force effects and move a pen about on a table, but it slowly improves over time.
The comic in general (as you may have gleaned) is though not initially, very dark and somewhat disturbing. None of the characters are perfect and the main character (me actually, it's about me and my mates) is an utter cunt and gets his fair share of beatings (and gun shots).
As it takes place in the UK, I also beat the crap out of the country, millions are going to die.

She's supposed to be in some sort of crouch, with the right leg near the camera, but the perspective's gone all shitish. I really should draw more often, last thing I did was the last thing I posted.
Actually her right leg (so on the left side of the picture) is quite fine, you see it from in front and it's bent. You can't guess the angles, it can very well be in proportion for the viewer. Her left leg is quite short, though. A quick fix would be to let her kneel on that and let the lower leg pass under her again.
I like it Clive, good job.
DJ apart from the slight problem of proportion in the legs it looks good too.
Btw Clive I sent you a PM.

24-05-06, 21:39
Haw haw haw!
Yeah...
Well, the pose is misproportioned, but it can work.
You need to lengthen the left leg, especially the thigh. Then a tighter acute angle from the crouching should make it work.
The foreshortening on the right knee is all wrong. If the knee is pointing towards, and nearest to, the viewer, then the knee needs to 'seem' larger than the thigh and the right boot needs to be drawn sort of more tightly angled, like so: \ / from where it almost is now: | | . That way, the foreshortening should work MUCH better. By the way, the upper arms need to be a tad longer and thicker.
Big point in your favor, the pistols kick all ass.

In regards to your newest picture, spike, the style has improved.
I'd try drawing more often, because that is 100% guaranteed to improve your style. Especially if you use advertisements that feature people, it's free and very easy to frequently check your lines as you draw them.
The proportions make her look rather skinny (and in fact, rather skeletal what with what you did to her waist, and the eyes look off - try making the whites of her eyes more visible. And a big mistake people do with legs (thighs in particular) is to draw the legs' lines parallel. They curve. Look down at yourself as an example. Thighs usually go like this | / (more gently than that, though) rather than ||.
I've got to admit, I love the hair's style. Hair is so freaking hard for me to do properly.

PS-HP, I look at all my stuff as shit, since I need to reach standards for my industry (game art 2d,3d, and such) that are downright insane at times. Even though Im still only 20 and I have a long way to go, I still stress on the issue a lot.

Rework of that old smuggler peice i did (the one with no face or hands  ) kinda tried a 3/4 view but messed it up and it just looks like her heads facing the other way now, improvement on the original i think though :D
Happy with how it came out and not at the same time, but here it is :p :

And yet another.
Really not great at frontal views, quickly because an exercise in symmetry as I drew it.
Art quality was generally half less than shit up (though proportions are all off) untill I got to the hands, then it all went to pot and stuff.

Nnnfff....
DJ draw later, DJ need tea and ciggies. DJ draw when he can find the install disk for his scanner.
This is just a quick 10 minute sketch I did in my notepad whilst at work.
Ignore the quality, I took the pic with the webcam, I don't have enough time to break the scanner out, but I will later.

Aarghh...I just went through EVERY SINGLE PAGE OF THIS THREAD collecting samples of ALL OF YOUR styles to put into work. I drew my spy today, but he turned out horrid. Ill be abusing some of your works to fix my arms...hopefully. (General war in background, Warbot just standing there gripping his First Love with his SH on his back)
Also drew a bit of a fight scene between a Doom Reaper/Grim Chaser whichever you prefer and 3 Revelers. Turned out a little better, as i am alot better at vehicles and mechanical stuff than...people. If you want to call those failed attempts at carbon based life forms "People" -.-
Well see how they turn out tomorrow. And if i can find my scanner...
long time no doodle
here's a rough sketch for a wallpaper scene I am fooling arround with.
