Yeah Pro would be nice, but can't afford a new OS since I just upgraded my hardware and had to go for a new CRT which I wasn't counting on.

My big laptop came with Win XP Media Edition and I've noticed all the "system info" programs see it as Win XP Pro.

I wonder if I can use the recovery cd from it and load the OS. hmmmm...

No. The files in \i386 are different if your running Media Center Edition.

XP Home isnt worth much imo.

XP Pro > 2K Pro > XP Home

never use home editions.

Go Pro or dont go.

I would choose Windows 2000, because in Win XP Home some very usefull functionality have been switched of artifically. Try to set file-access-rights on an NTFS volume without using a special startmode or any freeware-add-ons ; or try to manage special Useraccounts with XP Home. You will see the first differences ... :(

In case of setting up a new WIndows System please use a router with NAT. Otherwise you new installed windows will be destroyed with viruses and worms immediately after the first connect to the internet.

Keep in mind: Support will end very soon for W2k.

Thanks for the replies all.

And yes I'm behind a router with NAT enabled.

Thanks again! :)

Was trying different drivers, tweaks, and it seems I re-installed Win XP too many times and pissed off Mr.Gates.
So now, any future re-installs on this machine even WITHOUT changing ANY hardware will have to be approved over the phone.
