View Full Version : How much hack does it take to hack an op?
as the title said, is it really 140-150 hack? In nc1 its used to be about a 100 hack.
Last I heard anything in nc2, it was 120 or higher (but that was all the way back in the beginning of nc2... so they prolly changed it with hacknet and all that)

erm depends which layer. I can hack up to layer 3 with 120 hack, but im sure u dont need as much to do the lower levels.
The thing is, if you can afford up to 100 hack is there really any point in not going as high as 120, hacknet being the useful tool that it is (or will be when 100% fixed).

idd my apu hacks 120, and i use the 2nd lvl hacknet "PPU" software to get into an outpost's hacknet db.
in nc1 there was a rumour that the layers were of a different difficulty but it was bullshit. Did they actually implement the difficulty based on layers?

I disagree, it _was_ harder to hack the third layer in NC1 - I used to only be able to hack the fist and occasionalyl the 2nd layer with Hack 110
the finnish dudes hack at 100 - 120 all barriers ( at least me ) :D

I swear this is not a lie... i got the third layer with a melee tank who had about 80 with a ppu buff (nc1) and i know that another clanmate did it.
On my pe i never had more than a 110 and hardly ever had to try three times... or twice. (nc1)
wonder if it is the same in nc2? :rolleyes:

afaik u need 115 to hack an op without probs... i usually hacked ops with my ppu at 105 hck....
118 for me, and rarely have problems.
Sometimes people fail 2 or 3 times in a row, I think there are some bugs that creep in, because you can relog and hack the layer fine after that.
I've never noticed any difference in difficulty between the layers.
I've hacked the 3rd layer on the first attempt with 125 hack, but before i specced that much hack (i used to have 105) i could do the 2nd layer fine (never really tried the 3rd back then).
As many times as if succeeded at the 3rd hack, i've failed at the 1st, due to the randomness of the hackscreen. There just aren't always enough pathways open to give 11 nodes in the time allotted. Like belts, try again and you get a screenful of pathways and you don't even have to use all your nodes.
Well hacking a Op is a little bugged. The magic number is 110-125. If you go over 125 it seems like the hacks get harder. I was hacking with a friends HN guy and he had 210 hack with imps and there was no way to get the first layer so I loged my hacker with 115 and got it first try. IMO it should be no prob to hack a op first try with that much hack.
I heard there was definitely a Op hacking overspec bug, where the hacks are too hard when you hack level gets too high. No idea if it was fixed in recent patches, didn't notice it in the patch notes.

my ppu hacks fine with 110 hack ( with spy 3 ) might put more in hack as i gain more int levels tho. but hacked layer 3 fine with 110 hack.
my pe hacked tl 125 ( 100 base then imps + spy 1 ) and could do ops easy to.

Got base 76 hack on my spy +20 from imps and i use spy 1 so 101 and i can do it first time 99% of the time.
I tried it on a spy with 146 hack and it took me 5 times.
All layers seem to be pretty the same to me, I only got 110 and it works perfectly fine to me, my hacks barely fail (if they fail, then only in the most decisive situations of course :D).

Im usually able to hack most layers with my PE with 122 hack with spy buff 1, but if i got spybuff 3 from a PPU which would be me up to the 140ish mark it was noticebly harder.
So i would say there is a sweet spot around 120-125
I used to have 120 hack there abouts did not have much of a problem hacking layers but what I do know is the fortress outposts are a bitch to hack. I think it depends on what type of outpost it is mines are not hard to hack but factorys might be a little harder and third layer is allways harder, well it seems that way.
It's possible to hack with 100 but often very hard.
110-130 are the best numbers. After 132 I think there is a handicap and it gets harder. I'm serious, I noticed hacking OPs being MUCH harder many different times that way. If a ppu buffs me past 132 hack (I self buff 120) the hacking becomes much harder.
Kinda weird. I personaly think 125 is the perfect number of hack for anything.
I think my spy always had 100 with imps, and ...120 with buffs and hacking hasn't been any problem to me, any layer.
But god, when I tried with my melee tank, I blowed up more than once in a row :D Just requires small tactic to beat that AI
u can do it with 107 tho its a lil easier with liek 110-115
also sometimes its very random u can get impossible hacks for no apparent reason but relogging or making someone else hacking that peticular layer seems to fix that
