This is my first SATA drive so be kind. :p

Using the A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo, I plugged in the sata power plug and the skinny red data cable.

I ran the maxblast 4 cd to format\partition it, and all went fine there.

Booted it up with my win XP cd and something flashed by about pressing F6 to install raid drivers so windows will recognize the drive.

I'm not using the raid feature.
I just have the drive plugged into sata 1 on the mobo.

I installed windows, seems fine so far, installed my nForce 4 drivers so I could get online.

There was a hardware update for the sata controller on the mobo, so I dl'ed and installed it.

Everything looks fine in device manager.

Did I do this right or do I have to re-install windows with the F6 prompt and install the driver then? *shrugs*

Thanks.

If you can make it to the device manager in windows you don't seem to have a problem at all :-)

I did exactly the same thing recently - new PC with 1 x SATA drive.

Didn't push F6 - just checked that Windows saw the drive.

As long as Windows has managed to install itself and boot up I think you're all sorted.

Thanks guys.

@Capt. Rik,
When my machine boots, it sees the drive as, First Sata LBA, ATA 133

I thought it should be saying ATA 150 though.

What does yours say when booting?

SATA drivers do not come default in windows XP install cd. you need to press F6 durning install to install the drivers from a cd or floppy (should come with your motherboard mobo or available via download on mobo's site).

i believe there are no drivers on the xp cd because microsoft was rushing windows XP release.

however most of the time if you do not provide the SATA driver durning install you will get some sort of error durning install. so if windows installed without problems you are most likely set.

Found a free HD benchmark program.
I used the older version in the past, this one has been updated.
