Well seeing as he's gonna be 16 and into all things oriental my suggestion is a Thai prostitute, sure to be something he will remember

Ok, first thing: DO NOT give him vaseline :P I know u want to, but dont do it...

wait a couple of years :P

anyways, what could be better than giving him a lifetime supply of .... neocrack ?

or if thats to xpencive, just buy him the game :P or make sure he buys it before and then u can just give him like a month or somethin :)

beer or dope usualy works well for me 2 :P

These are terrible ideas!

My friend is not a dope smoking whore smoking rebrobate. SiL I appreciate the PM about samarai swords but....I've got a small budget.

So if people have any other LEGAL gifts ideas please post them

*sniff* no one got me a prostitute for my birthday :(

Okay, Neocrack.... all things oriental......

How about ........an NC box with account, together with a little ingame "surprise" like an apartment kitted out in as many Murals by Mah Jong , cabinets by Hiromi Ishikawa, chairs by Takeo Obuchi and Bonsai trees as his heart desires :)

....oh, and some Nigri Sushi from Rocco's Seafood :D

find a place near you or that delivers quick, find a suitably priced gift your frind will like, order.

I was going to suggest a Thai mail order wife, but I'm not sure that would be appriciated now.

Hmm... can't remember... was quite a while ago now :p

But here's a shot in the dark.... Is he into art and stuff? Like Japanese landscape prints etc.? Only reason that springs to mind is that a really good present is one that will last years and is always around the house in full view to appreciate it more. Presents i avoid buying people are: a) anything consumable that will be gone in no time, and b) anything that is likely to be stuffed in a drawer and forgotten about.

/edit. Last time i bought pressies that matched the above criteria, i found what i was looking for in gadget shop type places. Something useful and practical.

And how old is your friend?

Get him the Bruce Lee DVD's - saw them in Morrisons for 5.99 I think, when I was getting my lunch today.

Here are my suggestions for presents on a budget:

Books:

The Art of War - Grossly overhyped but an interesting book to read and own.
Bushido: The Way of the Samurai - Heavier going than the above, but very interesting none the less.
Legend of the Five Rings - Supposed to be a great oriental-themed pen and paper RPG. Great choice if your friend might like RPG's.

Games:

Shogun: Total War - Might be a bit slow paced, but a great (and cheap!) game.
Legend of the Five Rings CCG - Something you could both enjoy, though normally I'd advise that CCG's are bad, m'kay?

Films:

Chinese Ghost Story (1 or 2) - Great example of the martial-arts / comedy / supernatural genre.

hey i got this book ! it looked old as the street tough lol, with a chinese guy infront holding a pen or sumthing, i tought it was filled with poems at first :)

dunno if its hyped tough, i yust bought it cause the title sounded nice, read the first page and tadaa !

i found it very intresting, it felt like explaining the ethics of war to me :)

tough i found it usefull as you can interpret "war" very broad lik for example: discussions and fights :)

been a while ago i read it tough, should read it again cause its not that many pages and its lying under my bed anyway :)

16th b-day:
Mail in order of a hot thai wife, and some cron 55 beer, introduced to Neocrack for the first time and still hooked on it.

17th b-day:
moneh, and a piece of junk car.

18th B-day:
strip bars all day long

19th B-day:
NC2, more Neocrack, a piece of shit laptop, and a GeForce FX5700le.

Those are all the B-day gifts I recieved, not too much is expensive. Oh and btw oriental stuff is pretty expensive. Here i can find a samurai sword for about $20.00 or 15 Euros.

What about either a Go or Mah jong game?

They are both ancient games.

Depends what he likes though... it's not a ninja thing and not an electronic thing, but more of a social/decorating item.

Jesterthegreat

a decent mah jongg shouldnt be too much...

i got a set kickin around somewhere, but its such a long game to play, and no good when drunk ;)
