I disabled that ages ago I've checked and its still disabled. I mean on rare occassions this pop has appeared while offline after a game has crashed to desktop :wtf: its just frustrating like my sex life:(

I dont know where to look it hasn't really got a name (although I can think of a few to call it) I can track it with :( I haven't been able to play Nc for a long time. I fear that when I come back to Nc everyone will have long grey beards...that includes the woman too :p

Yes I understand that as I dont like Norton much myself but 2 progs that comes in handy is Ghost and Partitionmagic (Bought out the original). Ive used em for eons and if you must you can get the dos only version of Ghost rather than the latest 9 version as thats been completly windowized. But Ill assure you that itll save your ass from pain staking installations.

While we're on the topic I'd suggest NOD32 for the antiviris, and well firewall not got to that yet (Bad experiances with Zonealarm myself and searchin for others atm).

Get Firefox. Never use Internet Explorer EVER. If IE is fucked up forget it, just dont open it. Spyware now can randomly name itself and if you dont know the name of every weird system file you have it can not be removed.

hit start>run> then type msconfig
go to startup, you can disable everything under startup and it should be safe (services and other tabs you probably should leave alone.) you may be able to just disable the spyware from starting with your computer and or find out what it is called and remove it.

Hit ctrl-alt-del and check your processes, if it sounds weird goggle it and find out if its spyware/virus.

Re-Format solves all problems. Never go with mcaffe or Nortons. Both software tend to slow down your PC and sometimes become a problem with its own popups.

wipe out your harddrive and start fresh. I usually do it every 6 mo. I think you are supposed to do a wipe every 6 months anyway.

Heho,

could you press ALT+PRINT when you get the popup (and that window highlighted?) Open Paint and Select Edit->paste to store the image to an file. And upload it as an attachment of your next post.

It might help alot to get your problem solved without the sledgehammer of a format.

(I wonder why everyone always want to reformat on an unknown issue for them ...)

HELP!

For the last month or so I have been plagued by some sort of virus that makes any video game I play crash to desktop every 10 minutes and minimize it to the tool bar. I believe its linked to the pop up I get every time I'm on the internet thats pops up every 10 minutes. Its a phoney warning one and these things have stopped me from playing Neocron. I want to play but the liddle bastards wont stop hounding me!

I've used Sophos, Spybot search and destroy and Microsoft anti spyware yet still this virus/bug/spyware/pain in my arse come back to crash any game i play and also give me a pop up every ten bloody minutes or so.

If anyone has a cure for this please help me out. I will be your whore if you solve this problem :(

if you are using internet explorer try this :

Internet Explorer - Tools - Manage Addons -

and look for any addons that look suspicious, plz note a few have suspicious names but arent.

also look in the ones that has been activated and not only those that are active.

Contrary to popular belief, firefox does not stop all popups, though it does stop most. It also has a few really annoying missing features that I really want put in. Like scrolling the main window when the mouse is in a text box (that doesn't have a slider or is at the bottom of the slider), meaning I have to click outside and scroll when posting, and also not being able to Ctrl-Tab to the address bar.

start/controlpanel/adminstrative tools/services/ alerter "disable"
and /messenger "disable"

if u use ie and have "questionable" surfing habits,
there is a sweet proggy called "webroot spysweeper", alas its only free for 30 days but catches shit that spybot and adaware overlook.
locks your homepage, memory & programs that will run on startup.

i usually install the trial on friends and familys pc's after they bring me thier comps cause they fell for "free screensavers, weather and bargain toolbar pop-ups"

the friends that payed the 20$ after the trial was over havent called me in months

** oh ya ,, as said before "dont look at pr0n" ,, but if u must,, download knoppix 3.7, its a free linux operating system with xcellent compatability that runs entirely from cdrom,, never touches your harddrive, u can use it without a harddrive in your pc. so 0% risk of anything infecting your pc,, when u reboot all traces are gone.

A while ago someone posted a link to a program called Hitman Pro, which downloads and installs the latest versions of 6 or 7 anti-spy and anti-hijack programs.
It's a little freaky to watch on the initial install, because it goes through all the programs and adjusts the settings for each one automatically (looks like someone with remote access doing it:p), but it's very cool & should get all nasty spys and hijackers off your PC.

Unfortunaltely the set-up program is only in Dutch right now, but it's pretty easy to work out what's happening when you install it, and all the sub-programs are in English.

Since it's ment for a corporate enviorment, you get good virus protection, as well a realtime filesystem protection, with it not eating up reasources.
