steam is the worst thing to happen to my PC...

ok. my steam fucked up. rather than DLing it to reinstall i deleted steam and re installed it from the HL 2 CD. however this means it has unregistered HL1.

now. how the hell do i get HL1 working on steam? i have run the game, made a lan server, tried the training thing... i was told you need to do this to convert the files or something.

this didnt work.

i cant register a CD key in browse games in steam... as i did it last time i installed it.

the steam forums manually auth each forum account... so i cant post there til they auth me....

please god help me :p

Is HL1 showing in "Play Games", if it is right click on it, and check properties, to see if steam is recoginzing it(Status, Offline mode etc.)...
And that it set to update automatically...

And verify that the HL1.gfc is in the Steam apps folder:
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps

And that there is a HL1 folder in this directory:
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\user@email.com\half-life

You did install everything to the same directory as before, right?
