I figured I'd toss this in there to loosen up the usual forum routine.
Just watched "The Road to Perdition" for the upteenth time and its got my vote. Shows that a mob film doesn't have to be old and have all of the standard mob film elements to be good. Actually paying closer attention to it the director (who also did American Beauty) was pretty damn meticulous about each scene. Plus I think Tom Hanks dispelled any beliefs that he couldn't pull off a mobster, the story and shooting are damn unique, and the soundtrack is phenomenal.
Anyway share your own favorites.
[edit] runner up would be Miller's Crossing

The Godfather, one of my all time favorites.
Gotta be one of the best movies ever imo. :)
I guess Im gonna get flamed here but I think The Godfather is overrated. Sure, its a nice movie, but its not THAT good. I guess my vote would go to "Road to Perdition" too.

Yea, if it wasn't for Godfather, it'd be Sergio Leones Once Upon A Time In America, a young DeNiro and a Young James Woods = Win!
You could argue that it's not exactly a mob movie, but I say "The Untouchables". Then again, I would..

Actually, back when I was a wee lad, I took some film classes, and we studied that Untouchables scene to death where the baby carriage slides down the train station steps in slow motion, etc.. I was actually thinking the scene in Road to Perdition where Jude Law comes after Tom Hanks with the shotgun was something film students might study...
I received bad grades in film, but the Untouchables is most definitely a mob movie. A great one at that.
[edit] so are more modern movies like "Reservoir Dogs," "The King of New York," and so on...
Oh, I just thought of another, though you'll only find it on the road less traveled - "24 Hours in London" :D

He usually lives in the ones that don't involve gangsters in any way but they are less well known outside Japan.
God Father 1 and 2, Lockstock and almost snatch...not as good as lock stock, Layer Cake, Leon (has mob undertones), Goodfella's, Road to Perdition is ok i suppose...tho for the proper mob films you gotta go back to the 30-50s, little ceasar, G-Men....and then there's serpico which's already been said...
oh yeah, and bugsy malone :p
Was Layer Cake any good then?
It looked like a shameless cash-in, what with the whole "By the tea-lady from Snatch" trailer.
it wasnt half bad to tell the truth, on par with snatch at least
wtf am i on.... Reseviour Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Jacky Brown
