View Full Version : If you want to keep up the auctions...

Ok, went to the auction today, stayed for a whole 15 minutes, then left because the whole thing was spinning out of control. Next auction that's being held, regardless of who's holding it, could you at least try keeping them a bit orderly?

List the items that are going to be on sale here, on the forums, along with the item stats (IMPORTANT!). People want to know what they buy, and the one holding the auction needs to know what is being sold. This forum is still the best place to give out information through. Anyone with more suggestions, feel free to add them, I'm tired and can't think of any more at the moment.. :o

The one where the SA was sold for 165 Million nc?

Anyway... yes, time is important, it needs to start on time. Although I must admit it was good to see the admin-channel actually being used to announce it... :)

There was some disturbance by some guy in the beginning too, I'd have liked to see him removed from the room or kicked for the remainder of the auction.

think it was some FF guy kept spamming the zone chat, michael jackson think it was though he did eventually stop, but there were others spamming too.

i ended up leaving the event was about 30-40 mins behind before it started

I've replied to every Auction email, asking to be removed from the Auction mailing list.

To no avail I still get Auction mail-spam every other week when one is held. Until this spam stops, well I'll have no interest in the auction.

if they stop the email you proberbly wont know about it.

what the big deal its one email letting you know the auction is on, that way you get more people going rather then people who just by luck(as with many a event)happen to be around

And when they sell bunch of stuff it would be nice make it same class not some holy lightning, pistols and melee stuff in one bunch.

I left cause i didn't feel there was any order in the auction and seemed amateur planned.

Yes and the char M..... from the crahn clan D.... should have been kicked from start he had no respect for organiser what so ever.

It was moved to a later time so that people in USA/Canada time zones could attend. When it was held at 9pm GMT, people complained. Now it's at 11.30pm and still people complain

I think 11.30 pm is the only reasonable time to fit in with all our time slots. I'm in the UK and it's not unusual for me to play until 3am some nights.

Number one - don't blame the auctioneer for showing up late. Things can't be helped.

Number two - having every item announced in advance, WITH stats and prices? You're fucking nuts.

Number three - I'm sure that major spammers were evicted. Two GMs in attendance.

Number four - Don't whine about the email. One per char is great. It ensures everyone is informed. And just because you have multiple accounts doesn't mean shit. There's a delete email button right there on the cityterm.

There's a delete email button right there on the cityterm. But there isn't a "delete all" or a "read all". I don't get one mail per character, I get anywhere from two to twelve depending on how long I go between logins. With the time it takes to rotate through all 16 characters, I have some where the e-mails just continue to build up.

I don't like spam in real life so I don't see why I should be subjected to it as part of entertainment. Make it opt-out if you must, but give me an option to be off these silly auction lists. It's not like I'm around when you have the auctions anyway.

1. It's not spam, a single mail with useful info in it.

2. Heavy has spent a fair bit of his time getting this sorted, and surely it doesn't take 5 seconds to goto a city term and delete a mail. It really isn't heavy's fault you have 16 chars which each receive the mail. You had the time to make em all so 5 secs to delete a mail doesn't seem that bad.

i have no problems with the email of the auctions, 2 bad that the auction is a bit later mostly, by that time im going to my bed to read a book or watch some tele :)

thing i do find anoying is the mail or multiple mails i get from the preacher adviser ... for a noobchar ok, but on a capped char every time i crash and relog i can delete that skilladvisor mail :/

dunno if its a bug ornot :/

also slightly offtopic but now that i think about it: the CM resmission .. i have to start em 3 times before i get my item that i can res ... everytime i wonna drop of 3 cubes lol ... thats -3k everytime but thats not a haslle ... its searching for a mission 3 times before ya get youre item and canceling everytime that is the hassle :/ (to do 1 mission :/ )

anyway i like tha auctionthingie and i cant wait till i can participate in one :) maybe a littlebit earlier but then ffcourse not everyone can attend ... what about a euro and american auction ? ... i know 1 auction is alot of work allready by itself ffcourse :)

Well the time would be ok in a weekend on friday or saturday. But on a wednesday its bad. There are many who have to get up in the morning to earn their money so they can keep playing neocron ;)

So yes the USA and Canada ppl shall have a chance to be at the auktion but they would be able to that on a friday an saturday too.

Have you ever been to a real auction? I guess not. If it's a good auction, they ALWAYS hand out a broshure with all the goods up for sale, along with information for every item. And no, it's not stupid, that's how you keep it orderly... Having the auctioneer yell out a load of items in a bunch for 5 minutes and not knowing how many items there are to come that are in the same bid is however, not smart. Everyone has fucking paper and a pencil, use them. Just scribble down what you want to bid on and for instance the stats for it, then just use the notes when you're bidding... is that so hard? I thought you use some method like that when running your shop Heavy? :wtf:

I was'nt at the auction, and i dont know how they sorted these things, but i can guess it was a bit of a shambles from what people have said..
This is what i'd do for an auction:
Get everyone aware of the auction a week in advance, use GMs to post a couple of notices, make a forum post, occassionally send a message over TRADE chat in game, i'd then set a deadline in these notices say, for the day or two before the auction for when all lot's are in (lots are like.. if you want to sell something they give you a lot which can be just one item or a series of things) and get the info such as stats and any minimum prices they want for the items off the sellers right then so you can compile all the items and such into an orderly 'menu' or 'brochure' like proxy said.. write it up in word or somesuch and paste your contents into a forum post, ingame and out, and people can bid on the lots they want at the auction with the auctioneer just having to say something simple, like "Lot No. 22, Libby, HL, noob pker dogtags, asking price 500k, start bidding!"... simple as that! or some kind of variation on that system atleast..
If people want to know the stats, they should be aware and paying attention to the forum posts listing the items before, if they aint paying attention to those.. well they're clearly not very bothered about it (which sadly are probably the people who spam the auctions and such).
Now this is just what i'd do.. obviously there are complications, but if you work around something like that.. should be easy enough for a few guys arranging it to follow :)
Of course, this is just the way i'd do it! Maybe you'd do that too :P i dunno..

nr2.. like that slotted PE that was second to go don't know if you would have been there already. but hell i would like to know the stats of the thing or only the con of it.. if they don't tell the stats i gonna sell my /89 con pe next time lol. joked to somebody else in dm.. congratz you just bought a 1/2 con pe for a few million ;)

nr3.. nope afaik they din't even trow out the spammer but he left after a while on his own cause he went op warring or pking of whatever. and somebody else was spamming like mad to ( imho ) but putting him on ignore helped+ having all local muted helped a bit keeping it clear.

nr4.. agree with you there.. 1 a char is ok. i log my chars out in my apps or op ug or fa hq anyway so have terms near werever i log :p

1. It's not spam, a single mail with useful info in it.
Bullshit. On one of my not-left-MC5 chars It's FIVE mails in my character's inbox, all which list a day and time, but no DATE. That's not even REMOTELY useful to me. Nevermind the fact that I don't do the whole "auction" thing.
2. Heavy has spent a fair bit of his time getting this sorted,There are mechanisms available in-game for broadcasting information, namely the in-game forums. As you have to go to a #@$! term to read your mail ANYWAY, there's no reason those interested in auctions can't do the same thing.
and surely it doesn't take 5 seconds to goto a city term and delete a mail. What did I just get done saying? There is no "delete all". There is no "mark all as read". The only way to delete messages is to read each one, one at a time. Add to that the 30 second minimum cycle time between characters, and I'm looking at wasting upwards of 8-10 minutes JUST to get rid of in-game spam.
It really isn't heavy's fault you have 16 chars which each receive the mail. But it is his fault for relying on a unicast mechanism of message delivery when there are proper broadcast mechanisms available. Because it works to sell viagra and cialis does not mean it should be used to advertise auctions in Neocron.

Everyone has fucking paper and a pencil, use them.

you mean those plastic things with a little ball at the end that puffs out some ink when ya rub it over some of those mostly white compressed pulp of wood in leaves in diffrent sizes like 21x29,7 ?

ya also got them wooden thingies with a black carbon innerbody that do like the same thing but you can erase em later and it doesnt have a little ball at the end and they dont got sumthing to attach it to youre vest so when you put em on a table they roll away things hé !

and with the first one you can write on youre hand but with the second one its harder yeah !

and them wooden things i like to bite on em at the back and them plastic things you also have them where you have to put em in a little container of ink and then you can scribble with em, yust as they got em with a little metal horizontal edge and with a inkreserve build in in an even smaller plastic inkcontainer that you can remove and put back in that write's them nice long curvy letters yah !

owyeah ! i remember those :D

and ya dont even need a keyboard to operate em ! person that invented these is a genious :)

neocron mail has always been dodgy, i mean back in NC1 you would read them but it didnt show as red, i walked around with 100s of mails flashing in the corner.

We're talking about PLAYERS with all kinds of items. Trying to handle all that shit just so people have a nice, cute, formatted list and a cute little numbered sign to raise every time they want to bid another cute little 5k...

Getting my drift?

I'm sure, in a RL, fully professional auction, we'd be obligated to give the audience every last scrap of info, useful or not, and trot out experts after experts to verify the authencity of items.

This is NOT a professional auction. It's an event to get players online and together, to have time together, to let everyone unload stuff at bargain or higher-than-normal prices, to let everyone get a real chance to get something they needed but couldn't get because they weren't on at the same time as the seller.

And the email system. Honestly, get real. I'm amazed they put in an auto-email system to announce events. You're not obligated to cycle through every character just to delete one email each.

Lothar IB
11-02-05, 18:50
No i dont get your drift. What does this being a game have to do with the auction not being ran better.

The is no reason someone can't sit down and compile a list of what is going to be auctioned off. Oh wait nevermind they don't even post in the event forums anymore i guess that is asking to much.

mishkin

Well, people want info, and if they don't give it out, there won't be much people coming to these "events" anymore, so... I don't see why the auctioneer can't just post some info, it wouldn't take too damn long... :wtf:

Heavyporker

Oh, yes, it'd take forever. Trust me - it's not a ride in the park, running an auction and trying to rope up sellers.

It's not one person sitting down and compiling data.

It's that one person waiting on 10+ people to email him any damn info about whenther or not they're EVEN coming. Oftentimes, the only time that auctioneer finds out what's gonna be for sale is 5 minutes before the auction.

But more often, it's a running job - continously taking items, checking their infos and running off into zone chat the info.

Lothar IB
11-02-05, 22:10
I'll agree with you on it being a running job as something your not going to do in a few days.
