Yeah, so anyhow my hard drive is dying, I ran that powermax wossname and it say "HAHA PWND UR DRIVE IS DYIN DUDE HAHAHA!" so I went maxtor site and it needed version 4.09 not 4.06 that they stuck on the god damn CD, so i had to get laughed at in version 4.09.

Anyhow, I gotta send the damn thing to some place called Co Wicklow, which is in Ireland, which sucks tbh, why Ireland? Why not the isles of scilly or somewhere nice

But I got no idea wtf I need to do to send it to Ireland, Ireland isnt within the UK (we thank god for small mercies :p) and it also isnt within the 26 countries that Royal Mail do their wossname thing for, so I gotta probably use that Air Mail wossname malarky (bollox tbh, i could probably throw the hard drive to ireland from here).

Anyhow, I got no idea what I need to do, do I need to use that customs form? Can i just send it via special delivery? I dunno, how the hell do you send a hard drive to Ireland O_o

Er.....

1st stop would presumably be the post office. They'll fill you in, even if they can't provide the service themselves, they'll tell you how to do it.

Ya, but I gotta take the hard drive out, wipe off all the porn, MP3's, linux, and other stuff, stick it in a box, then deciper this label...

----------------------- CUT HERE - SHIPPING LABEL - CUT HERE ----------------------------

FROM:
ME
my address

TO:
Maxtor Ireland Ltd. Blue Dock
Attn: RMA #_________
Bray Business Park Southern Cross Rd.
Bray, Co Wicklow, Ireland
some number goes here

----------------------- CUT HERE - SHIPPING LABEL - CUT HERE ----------------------------

----------------------- CUT HERE - PACKING SLIP - CUT HERE ----------------------------

My Name And Phone Number!! RMA Number: 666 666 666

Model Serial Number
---------------------------- ------------------------------------------------
YOU WISH!!

----------------------- CUT HERE - PACKING SLIP - CUT HERE ----------------------------

And I cant figure out what to stick as the label, then its take it down the post office tomorrow and be like "wtf do i gotta do to send this to ireland?" and then they say "ireland? what you wanna send it there for?" and its computer stuff too so might have 256bit encryption on my porn or whatever so its complicated is customs :(

Shipping label goes on the outside,

Packing slip inside, (make copies of it! people tend to lose em. I sent my *coff*Time*coff* computer back for a HDD replacement ( within a week of having it as a side note :p )

Took em a month to return it, when it was said a week.

Reason, packing slips were lost.

Send lots.

Lots and lots.

And lots.

this is pretty much a new drive, 160GB Diamond Max 9, its warranty runs out in 2 years and 7 months, so you can tell how new it is :p Thing is I ran the stupid powermax programme, it gave me an 8 digital "HAHA FAIL" message, and no where to put it on the silly RMA form O_o so I'm buggered if I know what to do :o

*pokes*

That's what name and phone number are there for, but if all else fails, you can always stick in a sicky note with the drive.

Dear mr maxxtor,

My hard drive must be excused from any form of physical exercise because it has a nasty cough, 8 hard disk fail messages and all the other Drives laugh at it in the shower.

Signed...

Mr Lexx.

Shipping it to Ireland is going to be a fair chunk of it's value. You could replace it for £50.

One thing to bear in mind is they will probably just hurl it in the bin and send you a replacement so don't send it without backing up anything you want to keep.

its £3.30 for signed for on delivery (important that, dont want a leprichaun nickin my maxtor) on top of however much it is to send, I'd assume air mail, and on the box it says 0.6kg which is £5.10 for £8.30 omfg, almost a tenner to post it to ireland, still they gotta spend almost a tenner to send it back   still not sure on that customs stuff though

My original primary is a 40GB Western Digital, its stuck as my 2nd drive at the moment it just got too small for my needs (my *software collection* took over 20gb) so I got the maxtor, which is a nice drive tbh, i noticed noise when i got it so guessed its always been faulty, its just when i installed suse, it popped up too many errors, the log said it was a SMART error so i ran the maxtor util and get to send it back, get another one and still have warranty till 2007 :D

next time go with a Western Digital, ive not had one of their drives fail me yet.I have, in fact I've had three.

The first was a long time ago (maybe ten years) and took all my games out :(. I was so pissed at WD I avoided them like the plague till this year when I bought two 200Gb units. Both are unreliable and I won't be giving them another chance.

I've personally had about 30 or so Maxtors in those ten years (and used many more at work) and only one has failed though I do find they are susceptible to power fluctuations more than most brands.

IBM are the worst though IME. I can't remember ever owning or using one that didn't undergo terminal physical failure or wasn't unusable due to poor design.

£8.28 it cost to send it, and the Royal Mail spend MILLIONS on them "pass on your postcode your not properly addressed without it!" adverts, even people in 3rd world countries have postcodes, people who's houses moved 200 miles cause of that tsunami can still be reached cause they have a postcode! People in Ireland dont have post codes O_o

My drive still hasnt been delivered, and I sent it wednesday! This is frustrating because I took the IBM out cause its a pile of crap and am using my old 40GB job, which is a western digital and is rather nice, but limited in space for my sailor moon hentai :(
