I realized that my frustrations with this game are mainly contributed to running on a peice of shit computer....

I mean at times I am running in sectors like MB, plaza 1, and all the sudden the whole game just freezes for like 20 seconds...cant move, cant do anything...now in a pvp scenario this is just saddening as i know as soon as my comp unfreezes im dead

syncs taking like 20-30 seconds = death

so what I want to do is to see what other people are using for computers so I might build something that I can really put my elite killing skills to use

right now, im on a parents computer, running XP, 256mb ram, 2.6 celeron, onboard video(ha!), and a cable internet connection (the sad thing is I still kill a fair share of people)

so please can some people list their system specs, and things like FPS, sync times(average) etc etc

I'm sad to say I have exactly the same problems... running a 2800+, 512 ram radeon 9600 xt (256mb) xp and a 1 meg dsl connection.
The 20s hickups come and go (they're related to your virtual memory, so running the game off a different hd and ide-channel than your windows-installation/swap-file is a good idea, although it only helps a little...) The game takes about 2 minutes to shut down if it's been running for more than an hour, and I get fatals about once every hour, mostly when it's ran out of swap-space

To summarize: horrible performance 8|

//edit: oh, and I get about 110 fps if in any empty space or looking at a wall... bounces between 0 and 80 the rest of the time.

I run on a four year old 995MHz PIII with 512MB RAM and a non-ancient graphics card (bought this year, costed around 100 EUR). Even though my fps are one digit sometimes (especially when I snipe people in p1), I don't have any problems fighting. It's just about getting used to the slide show and predicting how things move. The synch times can be a killer sometimes, but you can learn to avoid them by knowing your surroundings (I've learned how to time my stealth in p1 and p2 to avoid the lag spikes and duck for cover).

amazingly my FPS arent really the problem, I average in between 20-50 which is very fightable in my opinion, I was actually quite used to pvping with around 8-15 on my old pc in nc1, but its these game freezes, and huge rediculously long syncs, that more often than not result in me relogging, and u can imagine having to run across 6 zones in the waste and having to relog every zone would get a bit annoying..........

I love this game, and I know its alot better than it appears to me, only cause im using a shit pc, so I just need some input from people who dont have these problems, and what gear they be using....

thanks

edit: btw, that 5 slot ts rifle u traded me hegemon is fun as shit....=)

I get a constant 62 FPS, it very rarely drops below 62 and never ever goes above it. I think its fps limitting or something... but it suits me just fine. btw thats 62 fps at 1600x1200x32 on a 20" lcd with the laptop screen running ts, aim, winamp, and synergyxr.
Despite this setup i still fatal on a fairly regular basis, not usually random or hourly but when exiting the game or right clicking an item, but its much better than my old 1 ghz pentium II 512 MB ram inspiron 8100. I also sync out pretty often but this probably has more to do with another nc account being run on another computer in the house.

Er the problem is i havent played neocron in a while. In nc2 i had good frames. I didnt fatal that often. sometimes i got 1-3 a day. sometimes i didnt get a single one. I never dropped below 15 FPS and in the biggest fights i usaly got 25-45 FPS. I did have problems syncing sometimes though, many reloggs fixed this. It is caused by my router i guess. I should realy forward the ports sometime. However i never froze for a long itme like that with no syncing. I bet its your ram trying to catch up with whats happening becouse your onboard video is shared. When i used onboard i got good fps but the problem was my ram wasent fast enough to keep up. So i had good fps but i had alot of mouselag kind of thing with jolts every few seconds. I bought a radeon 7000 one day for 20$ and it solved it. (was waiting for real card to arrive).

Though I play in a much higher reso than most people here probably would, I still get a pretty decent 50FPS, there or there abouts.

Synch times depends on the zone, but average 2 sec max.

More ram will help that, at least a gig in NC2's current condition.
I have a gig and don't get that, but get it on my laptop which has only 512, not as bad as you described, but it's noticable.

Anyway the game machine specs are;
Asus A7N8X
Athlon XP 2500+ Barton running at 2.21 GHz (3200+) 400Mhz FSB
1 GB Kingston PC 3200 running in dual channel mode @ 400Mhz
ATi 9800 Pro 128 MB (default clockrate)
latest Omega Drivers
DirectX 9.0c
Dual Maxtor 7200 rpm HDD
Windows XP Home service pack 1

Video card settings.
Anisotropic Filtering x 8, Full Scene Anti-Aliasing x 4
Texture Preference on high quality and MipMap Detail on high quality.

800x600x32, all in game options on and maxed with vegetation off.
Lowest FPS is 35 to 40 no matter where or what is going on.
Highest is capped at 100 fps with vsync matched to the monitors refresh rate. (100Hz)

I get a FRE every hour or two, yo yo effect after zoning and get to about 40 mb of ram left after playing for a few hours which usually cause's me to crash or my machine will just reboot itself, but that's a rare occurrence and more than likely has to do with me overclocking the cpu, but it does only happen with this game.

actualy my CPU ran at 15x185 at 1.85V for a while. it launched windows and everything. but it wasent very stable so i had to lower it. im not sure if it was actualy running at those kinds of speeds though, becouse dxdiag showed it running slower then that. its at 2.3 gigs or somthing atm. it should have been 2.775, but like i said im not sure if it was actualy running at those speeds.

I experimented for three weeks before i was able to get my pc tuo run fast.
Funny, getting the voltage too low or too high always made it crash, it's tuning the FSB, MP, and voltage, and then watching your mem timings too.

Getting a GOOD cooler is the key though, putting on that thermalright sp97 with artic silver compund was the best step to stability for me.

I average 100+ FPS in most areas, rarely if ever dropping below 30.

At fight night on Friday, I was running 35 FPS with what must have been over 30 people in the Foster UG. When I enable V-Synch, I run with a constant FPS of 62, in which case it only drops when tons of shit happens at once.

I usually run at 1600 x 1200 x 32, by the way. :)

I try to keep my processes to a minimum, and I also use a GREAT, Free program called "CCleaner" or "Crap Cleaner". I also use Disk Keeper Pro to keep my programs defragmented, and I keep Neocron 2 on it's own 10,000 Meg Partition.

I also run regular scans for spyware and things like that.

My performance is probably the worst thing i have ever seen in any game installed at this computer. Funny thing is that much more advanced games (HL2) are running pretty smoothly on it...
FPS are varying from 150 (app) to 0 (any fight with more than 10 people). Average fps is around 5-15.
Memory leak is still around killing me additionally with crashes and freezes.
Sync, as an awesome killing machine, is dropping me down very often, when i'm stucked at 5-10 sec syncs or getting warped right into the middle of battle or whatever.
Relogging isnt an option for me as *every* relog involves at least 5 other ones, due to SL bug, right click bug, sync bug, fucking bug etc

oh well

Nvidia Geforce 6600GT 128 onboard Ram
80 Gig HD (28 Gig left :o)
Packard Bell Monitor and Keyboard which are cheap but effective.

Neocron - Pretty much constant 60+ fps which can drop occasionally in the wastes etc and with the leak.

Doom3 - Again pretty much constant 60 but drop's sharp when you get too much action on screen as Doom3 loves to do :p (High Detail, top Res)

Unreal Tournament 200x - Top setting's on everything and pretty much smooth gameplay all the way except for really big fights or open expanses

Call of Duty - All on top except Trilinear give's smoothness all the way except with bushes and stuff which kill your fps softly.

Phew (No Ego)

Matty.

P.s to Fairy - Vsync (off because I have to have it off) can either be good or bad.
Most people reconmend you have it off because it can degrade performance but if you have it off on a low refresh monitor it can cause "tearing" which can either be a massive problem or overlooked.
having it off also let's your 3D card excell beyond (at no extra gain to gameplay) the refresh rate your monitor is set at, for example i'm playing with
Vsync on and 60 Refresh and get pretty constant 60 fps (because you cant go over your refresh)
having Vsync off will cause your card to overlook the monitors refresh rate and reach as high as 200 to 300 fps sometimes but this make's no difference because they are just frames that the monitor cant even process unless it could refresh at 300 Refresh in that case you would have unbeleivable speed.

So advantage - High Fps, Some game's give better performance with it off (Doom3)
Disadvantage - Tearing on 60HZ monitors and give's no difference to gameplay.

Having it off doesent really make much of an improvement unless your playing newer game's like Doom3 or Farcry which in this case greatly increases Fps.

how do you enable ysynch, or disable it, whatever

Terayon
21-12-04, 01:49
if you have ati card do this.

right click on desktop/properties/settings/advanced/3D

then go down where it says vertical sync. Set it to whatever you want from there.

Whats the point of duel moniters? I have 2 17" monitors just sitting around, so i guss i could use 2... if i had a reason 2.

Oh dear lord..

Point of dual monitors is having.. 2 monitors. Like.. having browser open on other screen and something else on the other. Or Neocron on one screen, TS+messenger on the other, like I do. Once you get used to two screens (which takes about 18 seconds) you will never go back to 1 screen. Ever.

About the specs, Athlon64 cpu 2.4GHz (Newcastle), gig of 400MHz ram and Radeon 9800 pro. All this running pretty much at stock speed atm. I know one place where I get a "hickup". Running from FA tower (in DoY) towards FA HQ, when I approachs the Boobs'n'Guns, I get a freeze for 0.5-1 sec or so.

Terayon
21-12-04, 11:10
but you only have one mouse. so using one monitor for neocron and one for browser... how would that work? and 2 browsers, one on each screen is retarded becouse you can just minimize. i can understand 2 monitors for 2 things only... design of some sort or watching a movie on one and browsing on the other.

Things I'd put on the 2nd screen: movie/TV, TeamSpeak, IRC, Messenger, Notepad for making notes while doing something else on 1st screen, eMail..

At work I usually have several terminal windows, few virtual machines, browser, email open at the same time, I could easily use 4 screen, but my laptop only supports 2. Also, I have all the icons, taskbar and start menu on one screen, but mostly work on the other.

512Mb PC3200 RAM (I'm going to be bringing this up to 1.5GB as soon as I get a chance to nip down to $STORE)
Gainward GF 6800GT 256MB

Nothing is overclocked at the moment. All settings are on the highest possible levels at 1152*864, and I'm consistantly getting over 70fps. At a higher resolution, my monitor only does 60Hz, which to my eyes flickers like mad. :(

most likely RAM or overheating, goto www.memtest86.com and dload their proggy

maybe RAM, it only ever does it in NC, perhaps coz of mem leak etc.

But it shouldnt overheat. I got some case with like 8 fans attached and im running core center at around 36 degrees almost constantly.

Believe it or not, I run the game on an Intel Pentium III-800, 512 Mb, Nvidia 64 card. Although it's ok for tradeskillers, PVPing is nearly impossible; especially when I'm located in crowded places. You can tell whether your PC is ok for NC2 or not, simply by going solo down to the second chamber of the P1 aggies; when you face the Aggie who spawns at the left hand side the FPS is great, but as soon as you turn right to the other one you can easily see the difference (lag-wise).

The above is PC-orientated. There are no mobs or runners towards the left hand side, but as you know there are plenty on the right one (another series of chambers). I'm afraid it's evident that the majority of lag & crashes are due to the client; NOT the server... :(

(especially when I snipe people in p1), I don't have any problems fighting.

Dude, why do you snipe people in P1? Unless you're anti-city, you certainly are the type of coward guy who ruins the game for everybody. Why? <==don't take this personally, but shame ;)

roger your chipset could be overheating due to incompatable ram. my board had this problem until i disabled everything on my mobo i didnt want to use, and used an old heatsink and fan i had.

*sigh* NO NO NO NO NO don't do this it is bad! simply make your airflow more efficient throw away those old shitty flat ide leads put in round ones duct your wires etc etc... maybe improve the heatsink on the chipset... it shouldnt be necessary tbh but mainly make sure your fans are pulling air in and pumping air out as they should be... but for gods sake dont take the side off.

On another note, Dual monitors are a thing of beauty. One for IRC/Code other for a browser (FF, obviously) and Other such stuff (Neocron).

NO, no, no.
I was just suggesting to take the cover off temporarily to see if the problem(s) went away.
Then you know if it's a heat related problem.
