Ok, after thinking about getting a budget gfx card, i have decided to throw that out of the window.

It a choice between
6600 GT (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_6600_GT.html)
ASUS v9999 6600 GE (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/GeForce_6800.html)
ASUS v9999 6800 GT (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/GeForce_6800_GT.html)

Please only discuss the cards mentioned above

I dont know why there is only £20 difference between the 6800 GT and the 6600 GE

I could only find reviews on the ASUS 6800 GE so i cant compare them. anyone got any experience with these cards?

I was orginally looking at the GE as that has really good reveiws, but then when i saw the GT for only £20 more and i couldnt find any info in it.

Got a 6800-128MB and it rocks.

However if they were out then i would have gone with the 6600, as they offer more value for money. (cheaper too)

OK after actually finding some info, the v9999 GE 6600 is NOT worth the price

so its between a 6600 (standard) or the ASUS v9999 6800 256MB DDR3

First the v9999 gt or not is NOT gddr3 memory. It has a gddr3 memory CONTROLLER. Many people make this mistake. Second, you can get a real 6800gt for 350$ or less american (395 canadian), i have no idea how many pounds that would be. Anyways though, i would still buy a 6600gt :P.

Also i can get a nice 6600gt from a good store online for 105 pounds.

i know you dont wanna discuss others but i personaly wouldnt get a GT id save a little longer and get the ULTRA, it may cost a little extra but you will be glad you got it over the GT.

leadtek 6800 ultra (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/GeForce_6800_Ultra.html#aGX_2d031_2dLT)

Well..... Decide what you want here (http://www20.graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041004/vga_charts-09.html)

A 6600gt does 60 fps in that test. BTW you probably know this but make sure you have a pci-e slot if you are getting the pci-e slot version.

BTW yes i know the 6600 isent in that particular one but he did test it in the exact same machine on the same settings somewhere else on his site.

Why get a 6800 Ultra when you can clock a 6800GT up to the exact same speeds, NOT use an extra PCI slot, NOT an extra Molex connector, and save yourself some cash too? :p

http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=V9999GT/TD&langs=01

you saying they are LYING on their site?

as for the 6600GT, how about this one:

XFX GeForce 6600 GT 128MB DDR3

Its now between the (v9999 6800 GT 256MB or XFX 6800GT) and the XFX 6600GT

Actually scrap the ASUS model

XFX 6800GT (http://www.xfxforce.com/product_view.php?sku=PVT40AUA)
OR
XFX 6600GT (http://www.xfxforce.com/product_view.php?sku=PVT43AND)

Reviews on a v9999gt are hard to find. But i did find some proof here on the v9999 not having gddr3 memory.
V9999GT (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?DEPA=0&description=14-121-177&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch&ATT=Video+Cards)
ACTUAL 6800GT (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-170-057&depa=0)
They say gddr3. They dont specify memory or controller so its legal, and another word to make it sound faster. Im not saying they lie, but they like to "bend the truth". Close enough to lying for me though.

Well its now down to how much you are willing to pay. Im not going to tell you what you want to spend. Not that you would beleive me anyways ;) .

(on those links scroll to memory configuration)

you have linked me to the v9999 on the bottom, there is a 2nd v9999 in the 6800 range.

as you can see, they are DDR (lower one) and DDR3 (upper one)

i blame asus for this confusion, calling all their cards v9999.

i think this thread needs closing now, i need to have a look round for some more options before i post a poll.

if you got any more info or ideas, please PM me

CbT please.

Ah diffrent types of ddr on the same kind of card is confusing. I never even noticed that.
