View Full Version : Character specialization

Seems to me the best characters are those that specialize. I've seen tanks, for example, that perform amazingly well and I think it's because they spend all of their time training as a tank, rather than bouncing around from class to class every time they play. I think this goes for tradeskillers too. I don't think that necessarily because you've capped a tradeskill means you're good. It's how you interact and develop a client base.

So do you specialize? In what? and why? Any tips?

I've spent most of my time tradeskilling. Although I've been on the battlefield with various characters and enjoyed it, I like lollygagging and chatting with people from various factions.

Discuss.

I used to specialize.. but now I just play my characters as I feel like it..

my current project is trying the viability of a pistol tank.

Hmmm, had a specialized roleplayer CA melee spy. Didn't work too well :-)

But yes, i do think one should stick to one main fighting class or two.
Before i was playing both my pistol spy and my hc tank...
Somehow the spy died a LOT more since i started playing my hc tank :-)

Same goes for ppuing. it's hard to do and needs you to keep an eye on your bufs and heals ,while doing the same for you teammates.

I enjoy my full hc tank the most, and i use my ppu for leveling, as i just plain suck at ppuing.

yeah the combat char I have the most experience playing is a PPU. I liked Op wars because rather than concentrating on a single enemy or whatever you're responsible for an entire group. Knowing who needed what and at the right time was tricky.

The best was, when I was bored, drifting over to the caves at the Canyon or CRP, and wandering in and getting the whole "omg teh leet PPU hep us!!" Great passtime was healing the youngins.

Oh yeah not a character balance argument thread. Just what you specialize in etc..

Rifle spy.

It's the only class I've found to give me any decent long term satisfaction and challenge.

I don't play anything else 99% of the time now.

When I was playing my libby PE constantly I got pretty good, after a short break and a few weeks playing other chars because he was broken, I suck ;)

So yeah I agree.

I played pluto for 8 months and had the same PE the whole time. I never reroled and only had one acc so that was all I played and I was very good at playing that one thing. Now that i am on a 4 char server I am not good at anything unless I spend a hr or two warming up. So I would say yes If you specialized in a class you will be alot better at that one class then say somone who just skips around from char to char.

i've rerolled about 12 times in total, played all classes, capped 5 characters, all the time searching for the one to play... then finally deleted them all and start playing spies again, as it was my first char i've played. And i'm happy as hell with em, even if i need loooots of training.

In conclusion, personal preferences are much much more important here, yet the true is that constant practise is what keeps u in shape. My friend been playing sniper spy for like almost 2 years - he was really awesome with it, most people had admitted it - but later he switched to apu and now, after few months, he switched back to spy - now he sucks even more then me :D

Well as a Pluto player, most people tended to have 2 main skills per character, but I get a feeling the Saturn/Uranus players had 1 skill per character.

My main character Brammers can constuct pretty dam well (IMHO) and still be effective in op-wars with Drones. My researcher in NC1 used to be able to hack, research, repair and drive every single vehicle....oh and use a plasma cannon for comedy value. :) The setup has changed for NC2 to suit hacknet more, and just drive up to the Rhino.

My monk, has been pure combat from the start. It is a class I also like playing, and having some good fun with, and get away from the world of Brammers, who always seems to be in demand!

Next, going to try a tank class again.

I have had the most fun with my hybrid monk afore the spell requirement increases, and my H-C tank of course.

I've had Carinth since Pluto's start, never rerolled. I was a hybrid for a lil while and had a blast until they got hugely nerfed, I also tried an APU and had limited fun just because of the novelty.. But I always go back to being a PPU. I'm one of the minority of ppu's that really love being a ppu and helping people. That's what drew me to the class when it was first made, my entire purpose is to help others.

Going back to the spy... I Melee spy really ought to be a viable option.

It'sd a shame.

Maybe if they brought a spy line out based on HT Dex/int and a wee bit of str... Like little laser punch daggers or summat.

I always thought there should be two types of melee, one str based, like a bezerker warrior style, and one more dex, like Kendo, and Grenades would be dex based melee

low tech, non-rare wielding, non haz casting, tl3 def circlecasting, rifle using Private Eye...

the class description is as long as my wepaonname... but im not gonna alt tab loads of times to copy that out again :]

HC tank has always been my favorite class . I have 8 and i spend all my time on one apart from when im tradeskilling. Although im a hybrid now i still cap all hc weapons so im more hc than melee .

I just drift around my characters, and well, I've capped most of them (say like 6 of 8), so it's not hard to  I'd rather be able to play any class at any time to an extent, rather then "specialise" in just one... That being said, I love nfing on my pistol pe, Ima try and get good on him again :) (no pa, using a judge, the reason I love it  )

HC tank. At the mo I'm knocking off some serious AGL to become a recycler to help with all the FA screaming for an 80 Recycler :)

Apart from that - deffo HC specialisation.

Tank has quite limited skillsets - you can give him blanket resists or decide between HC and MC -

Whereas a spy can ress drone const hack pistol rifle recycle drive repair...

*looks up balanced classes in the dictionary*

That said I'm well aware of the shortcomings of tanks - but I love em so I'ma keep playing. - I do believe however they could use some lovin.

Yer but since the Kamis gone i havent seen you around Omni (now why is that :D ).

Any one remember in Beta4 or early NC1 were their used to be loads of people who just usead a variation of weapons, before real specialisation. That was fun, although some new comers to NC2 seem to be doing the same thing IE: Pistols/Melle PEs keep seeing them arround.

melee PE... capped PoT damage, PE defences (with added lvl 4 armour), capped RoF on DB, PAless small hitbox...

wonder why there are a few of them popping up? :D

That could be why then eh? :D

Iv tryed that route before, lots of fun cant use much else than PoT though but then again my little sis thinks the claws look cool enough so why not :p .

Melle PE also seem to make particularly good (low lvl) PPUs, (as well as being nice and fast.
