just brought a friend over to try out NC and he cant see my computer on my network and cant run the network installer on his comp because he looks at too much animal porn (I assume thats how one gets viruses...) so:

a) how do I get it so that he can see my comp to get the installer on his computer?

Is the router configured for DHCP?

What OS on the PCs?

You could also just manualy enter the ip, gateway and subnetmask.
Look at the settings on your computer, then for put the same ones in his computer, except for ip address off course :-)

Don't forget to have different LOCALPORT setting in the neocron.ini file on the machines. Otherwise only one'll be able to play.

I'm on windows xp pro he's got windows xp pro media center edition, my local port is changed but thats not the problem, he can get out to the internet, but he just can't see any computers on the network to get the installer off my comp and it would take like a whole day for him to DL it off this slow ass connection. I believe I'm setup for DHCP, not sure how that matters, I think the problem is some sort of random setting that he doesn't have setup up the same on his computer so that he can see resources shared over the network.

When you say he's in the same workgroup do you mean you can see each other in Netork Places or just that it's the same in the setup box. Workgroups are rather ad-hoc at the best of times so if you can't see each other easily I wouldn't trust it to be working.

You could try connecting direct to his IP :
1) open a command prompt on his PC("CMD" from Run in the start menu)
2) run "ipconfig" and get his IP address from that
3) go to your machine and put \\IPADDY\ (file:///IPADDY) into Run on there (where IPADDY is from 2 above)

If that doesn't work then maybe the router isn't operating as a local hub. Check the settings in it and/or maybe post description of it's connections.
