hi guys

i need your help

basicaly i not been in game as i have computer problems to cut long story short i unplugged my geforce fx5800 and put it back in and it put broken grapics on screen. now i trued my old voodoo 3000 graphics card which worked but then my system slowed down any way i was playing about inside after trying somethings and then plugged a fan in as soon as i did this the fan didnt work this is a case fan not cpu and i smelt burning. when i tried to turn the comp back on it sort of started but i had no display and the other case fans had stopped working so i assumed i short circuted the motherboard the cpu fan still turned and the psu still worked . so i bought myself a new abit an7 uguru motherboard and have put it in all the fans work now i replaced the one that didnt but now it starts up but my keyboard wont come on i get to a bios screen which is like a big splash screen saying press tab to do post check or delete to enter setup but i cant do either as my jeyboard wont work its a ps/2 keyboard i tried a second keyboard as well and same somtimes the lights come on briefly but most of the time nothing at all anyone any ideas do you think its faulty motherboard or have i damged my cpu or ram as well any help would be apreciated im getting nc withdraw symtoms and got a 6800 ultra on way to go in system

thanks in advance sorry TGM thats why i not been on for a while.

Sorry to hear about your 'toasty' system. I think you're on the right track; you RAM or CPU is probably fried. (I bet that it's your CPU; it's usually one of the only things to make that lovely burning smell.)

Umm... Im not a hardware specialist but if your CPU is fried, the computer wont start. If your RAM is broken you will most likely hear a loud BEEB! from your computer speaker.

When the CPU is fried, the computer might seem like its on, but you wont get any picture on monitor or anything.

Hi marshall, yeah I was wondering where you had gone to... :wtf:

And if you have a clean install, for gods sake remember to install a firewall... Last time i did new install, the PC was on the net for a couple of minutes before i got to the point of installing the firewall (was checking if the network was ok and installed properly) and i had the first trojan put on the PC from some sad bastard... MINUTES!!! o.O
