View Full Version : A great Injustice

OK, so, like.. items are scattered everywhere, in a seemingly haphazard manner. That's fine. I like to explore.

So for the past few days, I have done nothing but hit every dot (and even unmarked nooks) on the map, looking for items. At this point, I have now found at least one smuggler for every type of weapon, except of course for the one type that I use: high tech pistols.

Monks in Neocron barely even need to venture outside town; their smugglers have level 2 implants, and plenty of other goodies. Other key smugglers can be found in Tech Haven and the Military Base. Now, what about high tech pistols? Can't find a single smuggler. So some helpful peeps on these boards tell me to check the TG Canyon.

I figure, ok, that will be tonight's adventure.

So I make my way toward the Canyon, and realize it's going to be a tough trek for a little xx/42 pistol spy with no stealth. But I like the challenge. I'm discovering all kinds of big new mobs I've never seen, and dodging them at all costs.

Finally, I've got some sort of big beast in my way that I can't avoid. He ranks in at 70/70. I figure, ok Sebastien, you're gonna have to fight it.

The battle takes about 10 minutes to conclude. Fortunately the thing is slow, and I've got terrain options. Unfortunately it fires three heat-seeking fireballs at me every few seconds, and, ouch! that damage smarts. Lucky for me I bought a fire-belt before I left town.

After a whole lot of kiting and hiding and ducking and self healing and god-knows-what-else, I manage to kill the thing. I'm psyched. It's my biggest kill so far. Now for the loot! Maybe I'll finally discover a source of level 2 implants? Nope.

You know what I found? A few pieces of flesh, a big chitin thing, and a TL4 cybereye. WTH?! Hurlers drop implants that are worth more FFS.

Well.. whatever.. I wasn't here for the loot. I press forward, weary from battle, but encouraged that I am nearing my destination. After one more fight with a 40/40 fire mob, I make it to the Canyon.

At last! I'm safe! (this is what I think to myself anyway...)

So I zone in, eagerly awaiting the discovery of my long-awaited tech-pistol smuggler. First thing I see is a teeny little black Scorpion. I figure, meh, I've seen little 4/4 scorpions; no big deal.

Wrong! The little bugger starts blasting me. So I make a run for it. Before I know it, I'm surrounded by nearly a dozen 90/90 raptors. I'm spamming heals, medkits, and running for my dear life. I see a clearing, and what looks like an apartment or something.

So I figure, ok, I guess this is finally the entrance to where the NPC's are, and these mobs are just here to make it a little harder to get in.

Wrong again! Now I've got dozens of big scorpions. They take out my legs, and I die a few seconds later.

KK..

How, in your most vivid and wild dreams, did you think this was fair? Every other class can find smuggled goods in SAFE zones, and the only smuggler that has what I need is buried somewhere in this death hole?

Please.

Oh well. I guess I'll do my TT epic run and take the TL75 I get from that. I hope you consider this a bug KK, because no way is this fair to tech-pistol users, if the only smuggler they've got is in the Canyon.

Bed time for me. O_o

Never heard there was a tech pistol smugler in canyon o_O Maybe someone fooled you :p

There is one at pepperpark I think. Also activate the trade channel and see if someone is selling one.

Hehee, its funny what people are willing to do just to see if theres something somewhere

There is a hightech pistol smuggler in canyons .... with lvl1 stealth and big luck you can catch him .... was there as spy when trying to do FA epic ... other problem (its now whine) are some ppl that have aps in canyons and are very unfriendly to all (read = manage to go past many many raptors/big black scorpions and whn healing in safe spot got owned by APU) .... died 3-4 time there when i was alone ... next time i go with PPU and made epic task but ater it died again to APU/firemobs combo ... PPU do some para to APU and to another guy (spy afaik) but told me that they zone to apps ..... first i was pissed for got killed by ppls one more time but now i think that if they (who have apps in canyons - there is post about it http://neocron.jafc.de/showthread.php?t=115123 ) roleplay it in some way (not only zap zap zap dead but with some trash talk or smt) it can be cool .....

I have to go back to MC5? o,0

Random PK'ers with apartments in the canyon? Sounds cool actually.

BUT!

The thing is, it would be ok with me if *everybody* had to seek out their smuggler in such dangerous places. Fine. Cruel, but ok.

But why should some weapon users get their stuff in TH and MB, while the pistol users have to deal with this Canyon (which apparently not only has 90/90 fire mobs but also RPKers too).

Does KK think a pistol spy is so overpowered, compared to a melee gentank or a hybrid monk, that our smuggler should be harder to find?

is there any place other than crahn HQ to get lvl 3 psi spells?

if not think of a pro NC monk who wants a lvl 3 spell...

sebastien

That's fair, but in the meantime, the pro-NC monk has very convenient access to all lvl 1 and lvl 2 stuff. (good luck finding lvl 2 stuff otherwise! :D )

Also, even if it sucks for that monk, at least I can sort of rationalize it somehow in my mind that there is a logical reason behind it. Crahn Sect has control over the highest, most sophisticated psi formulae. If someone wants access to these potent tools, they can only do it with the Brotherhood's consent.

But try roleplaying out my scenario? Smugglers are scattered throughout the world, and set up shop in popular areas where Reiza's law is not firmly established. Here they conduct their trade, bringing contraband items to runners in need.

Except for Bill, the hightech pistol smuggler. He had a different vision! He set up shop in a canyon inhabited by no one but high level fire mobs. If the mobs agro him, he simply throws them a biscuit or a steak, and this seems to pacify the beasts. Bill tells himself, "Surely this is the land of opportunity! Here I can make my millions."

It's like a pretzel-vendor picking up shop, and relocating from New York City to the demilitarized zone between N and S Korea. WTH? O_o

What sorta hightech pistols are you looking for? There is a smuggler in Via1 behind some boxes that have a few I believe The HEW also has a few. There is another smugger by the gr in PP3 behind some boxes that might have some, but come to think of it I believe he just has rifles.

//Edit//
I also believe there are vendors and/or smugglers in the OZ and IND that sell hightech pistols.

with apt's now registerable to both pro and anti city in canyon i would say "Bill" had a fairly good idea. the Canyon will soon be home to many, and is away from both DoY trooper and Copbot law.

the smuggler in crahn has lvl1, lvl2, and lvl3 spells. so really, crahn monks have it way easier... which makes sense i spose. If you wanna make a wizard, start out at the wizard school ;)

@whif- I'm pretty sure the smuggler you refer to in PP is low-tech pistols. I will double check VR-1 though; thanks for the tip. As for OZ, etc., I thought I made a pretty thorough sweep and did not find anything that could not be store bought, but I'll double check this as well.

@Jester- I still say Bill has no business sense and no regard for his own safety whatsoever. But board warring aside the point is that it is far easier for a rifle user or high-tech melee to get to TH, or a cannon user to get to MB, than it is for anyone to wander through that Canyon firebomb deathtrap. I don't think that point can really be argued.

Hmm.. seriously it seems you have to be very rugged to enjoy an apartment in the Canyon though. Is there some back entrance that I'm not aware of? 8|

MB is surrounded by WB / WBT's

canyon is surrounded by fire mobs.

besides once player shops are up ( ) it wont be such a problem

CAP you PSI asap and you can drug for shelter get a moveon and proto resist chip drug for strenght on top of your psi drug :) so you can use the first lvl fire armour. 1 strenght implant I think strenghten backbone is the best way having a SA chip would help :( but anyway you can get as good as a PE's resist I'm thinking your body health would be lower though. Also just stay away from the canyon theres nothing there but mobs and locked up shops kind of depressing really it was where I came from now its destroyed :(

Jester, as far as I saw, the approach of MB and Canyon are VERY different.

It is quite an easy matter to make it inside of MB without having any warbot scuffles along the way. And once inside, you are pretty safe.

But the fire mobs of the Canyon are *inside* the Canyon itself. They are not avoidable, and their population is quite.. DENSE. 8|

admitedly i havent been there in retail... however in beta there were a hell of a lot of them, but my PE could wander around.

bear in mind the AI takes a few secs to kick in and run in and up the stairs. knowing where you are going will be the best advantage you will have, because you can get in and get out with minimul aggro

sebastien

Nono, I mean I did get to the stairs and got in. *that's* when the trouble started.. the mobs populate the inside of the zone.

i know... thats why knowing where in the zone your going is an advantage. get in, buy, get out (and remember to lose the aggro you have by zoning into the caves etc in the canyon sector. this could be the difference between life and death :))

Not to metion that having scorpions one-shot your legs does not bode well for the whole get-in-get-out plan. :p

Well I just confirmed the smugglers in pp and vr1 are lowtech pistol, not high tech. Thanks for trying to point me in the right direction though.

Will double check OZ and Ind tomorrow night.

whats the smuggler bt the via 3 (the one with the subway, i think its 3) subway? (where the gogu's were, behind boxes iirc)

in beta im sure he was a high tech something (pistol if memory serves)

There are hitech smugglers for pistols, rifles and cannons in canyon. Though I think the highest TL is 67 or something like that. Not completely sure though. Just checked TL of rifles once and that was 67 I think.

With shelter on and firebelt, the mobs in the canyon arent that hard at all. My little PE defence hybrid can take a bunch of birds on at the same time and just tl3 outheal them while barrelling them away. The scorpions are a different thing though. The 95/95 ones actually hurt. :)

Anyways, the solution to your problem is really easy. Just ask a ppu to escort you inside. With holy shelter and holy heal theres nothing (apart from PKs) that can touch you there.

Btw, there are several spots where you have some "breathing room". And suitably, those spots are where the smugglers are... ;)

Sebastien, I have a TL83 raypistol on my spy. If you want, ill make you a BP of it. Or you can buy it from me (3 slotted goodness :) )

sebastien
14-10-04, 18:23
@jester- I don't remember seeing any smuggler where you described; I'll double check (yes it's VR-3 that has the subway entrance).

@masterbee- Thanks very much for the offer, but I'm not ready for such a weapon quite yet. It's more the idea that high-tech pistol smugglers are so much harder to reach than any of the others.

@agent- I don't get it. :(

I am building a list of where to get stuff ....

Just a general one, so when people ask, the answer is there ...
here is a comma seperated log file , that can export into excelt ...

if anyone sees anything missing, please let me know, it is in no way complete

sebastien
14-10-04, 19:28
VR-3 smuggler found; he's high tech cannons.

I don't know if this is just murphy's law, but honestly it seems like you can find almost any kind of smuggler in almost every major area, except for high-tech pistols...

whifix
14-10-04, 22:41
What hightech pistols are you looking for sebastien?

sebastien
14-10-04, 22:52
I'm not looking for one in particular. I just wanted to know what I could get from smugglers, that I could not get from the stores. *shrugs*

Right now I have just a TL65 3-slot jordan, and I guess I will just go straight from that to the TT epic weapon.
