View Full Version : Open Beta at 56k I give up

I have been downloading open beta for 13 hours now, and have received 148 mB. Time remaining 6 days and 17 hours. I give up.

Once around this block would be bad enough, but to have to do it all again for the retail release would drive a man to drink.

I and hopefully some other 56ker loyal customers would be willing to pay you to burn this game onto CD's for us.

Regards

Pool

Yeah I gave up to... just too much of a drag to do it on 56k.

For retail I'm probably just going to wait for it to be released in stores, or order a German game magazine :o

Yeah, i hate long downloads myself. Im on 150k broadband but it will still take over 24 hrs for the whole lot. My mate, DIS is DLing it on his 256k connection atm, then he's gonna burn it on CDs for me. I think that's the only answer for 56k users; get someone else to do the donkeywork for ya :(

[edit] i was gonna go round his place tonight to get the stuff burned but the ETA has changed from 1 more hour to 4 hours. Damn bittorrent

surely u have a friend who plays who has broadband maybe he could burn you a copy of it, ?? maybe even post it to you?

kk cant do nothing about the size of the client.

lol aye, bit torant is kinda shite, i downloaded swg over night and thats 1.9 gigs. KK really should get a good ftp server setup for paying NC customers.

Btw i was once on 56k, took me 3 days to download a 650 meg game, only to be banned by BT for excess use :)

Lucky me, comcast is coming over either today or tomorrow to fix the damage done by hurricane charley (in my neighborhood). But until I get that im not going to be downloading the open beta.

Also, any dial-up users, if you really want the open beta, I may be able to mail you a burnt set of CD's for the price of shipping  .

Think ya mean banned by the tracker for that particular torrent you were downloading ;)

I still think BT was used just because they don't have to totally use their own bandwidth to upload to users since users begin to upload to each other as they recieve the file. Of course if you get stuck on a bad cluster that contains only people who have low upload, capped their upload. or heck aren't even uploading then you are typically screwed.

BT could stand for British Telecom.

And they do ban people for downloading too much on any of their connection packages.

I just hope they don't drag their feet on the North America Box release. Aside from the fact that its difficult to DL that client on dialup (broadband isn't an option for me yet), I'd much rather pay for a box than for a CD key. I guess I'm old fashioned. :D

I got as much as 89MB downloaded (and 60MB uploaded - heh) when I decided it was foolish for me to even try DLing a 1.6GB file over 56k. What was I thinking?

BT on 56k isn't an option.

To be honest, downloading a 1.6GB isnt either.

At best you can get is 5k a second which equates roughly around 12MB an hour max. Which means it will take you (with FTP) 136.5 hours (http://www.google.com/search?q=what+is+1.6GB+divided+by+12MB&sourceid=firefox&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8) or 19.5 weeks (http://www.google.com/search?num=20&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&newwindow=1&safe=off&q=how+many+weeks+in+136.5+days&btnG=Search) or 4.4 months (http://www.google.com/search?num=20&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&newwindow=1&safe=off&q=how+many+months+in+19.5+weeks&btnG=Search).

Flashget will not make your connection faster then 5k a second.

I suppose i could be kind enough to offer to send it out to people on a DVD as i have a DVD burner. I suppose i could to those in the UK if they can throw 50p my way for 2 stamps.

But would i get in trouble from KK for that?

No, KK let it go on the net free, so you can burn and share it as long as you don't modify anything

ALSO I'll send CD's out in Sweden for those who need it, at selfcost tho.
