Blame the people who aren't seeding. ReaKKtor have a few seeds up, and have asked the community to help. Last I checked, two people who weren't KK were seeding. Whoop-de-shit ;)

How so? It seems ReaKKtor doesn't have the ability to hand out this 1gig+ file to everyone, so BitTorrent makes perfect sense. If everyone were to play nice and let their client seed for a few hours, everyone would experience speeds far greater than a normal FTP/HTTP transfer. Or am I just being a tad too ideological here?

Also, normal upload/download ratio is 1:4, which means without KK seeding, everyone who downloads needs to upload for 2-3 times longer then they downloaded.

No your being incorrect. There is a physical limit to how much you can download on your line. FTP will reach it, BT appears to only let you get near it if give to others.

For example. 56k you will never get better then 5k a second download. Any program that is telling you otherwise is full of crap, or is factoring information already there (eg. you stop and restart a transfer, the download will be higher then normal but it is still 5k a second).

It doesn't make you faster then FTP, it only stops bandwidth being saturated at the original source (keeping KKs costs down). It also keeps the file on multiple servers, so that it can't be easily removed.

Seeing we are getting screwed with extra costs, they could at least host an FTP instead of having others pay for it.

Apologies, I'm just speaking from my own experience. I personally get at the most 60k/s from HTTP/FTP transfers... and even then, it's got to be a fantastic connection. With NC2's torrent G3 informs me that my average was 68k/s, and it involved no waiting in line or anything. Just click on the torrent link and leave the computer for a few hours. Of course, that's just my experience. I just can't understand how BitTorrent is such a bad option for everyone else. Bad clients?

I get 100 kb/s minimum on FTP servers. Most I have ever had was my bandwidth cap which is around 600-700 kb/s (and I'm on a 1 Mb/s connection). Not getting more than 10 kb/s on BT, and thats when I am uploading at 75% of my connection :(

Well, when I have the full client and am not using the net, I will set mine up to seed to help everyone else out. Perhaps this needs to be uploaded to FilePlanet? Would boost the publicity as well.

i cant understand why so many people are moaning about downloading the client, use bitt torrent, i was getting an average speed of around 40k straight away, but i got best results from neocron.org, took very little time from there, props to him for putting the client up there, decent guy!

so whats everyone moaning about? learn to use your computer, or get a program which will try to auto reconnect, get right or gozilla or something.

as for neocron2 what a pile of shit. glad it was open so i didnt have to buy it to judge it.

Hell no it isnt, they arent an ISP, they arent a web hosting company.
They cant be expected to have unlimited amounts of bandwidth.
You are testing the game for free, you cant expect them to incurre a cost for you to try it free. Especially to those who are already here and definetaly going to upgrade anyway.

That is only because you are on dial-up or A/DSL. It is because the faster you can UL, and the more you have free, no matter what program you are using, the faster it goes.
Try DL'ing something from an FTP while uploading something large to another FTP. Keep both going in different progs - even try it on different computers, same thing. It's why even cable users with only 128k upload (like myself) start to slow down with 3-4 or more similtaneous HTTP/FTP DL's going at once.

I had trouble with BT when i first tried it too, My advice is to not just DL the one KK says to and whinge that its slow.... there are hundreds out there, find one that does! - directed at everyone, not just the quotee :P

Advice - If you are on 128k UL, Limit your uploads to 4 and upload speed to about 4-5, this allows people whom like me have thier upload counted in thier limit, give back to the community, get reasonable speed (6-7k free still for connections), and not give out more than a few hundred meg.
Realistically, even if everyone capped their upload to 50% or slightly lower of thier uploads.
Obviously anyone that can go higher should, and everyone should try to leave thier client open for a few hours atleast aftwards, if possible.

Only problem is going to be, atelast with my BT experience, unless KK are the tracker, when that fucks off - which they seem to do quickly - or drops the file, most people wont know what to do, although im sure most people have probably almost got it by now.

No im with arch on this!
Yuoi were probably one of those people that expected it to be some top shit "new DX9 game" looking game.
The fact is they stated what was updated, and it has been done! there are a few bugs, but they delivered.
Man it better than i expected, well the new char models... they are atleast decent polygon, and have wicked textures.
I was one of those telling everyone not to expect anything, and now im glad i was wrong. But i wouldnt have been if i was as naive as you. sorry to say :P

No it is not. There is a physical upper limit to all connections that simply cannot be breached. You compress the file at source and claim otherwise but your data transference would still be the same.

Now with BT, it actually caps your upper limit until you offer up a certain amount to upload. Your upload may be on a seperate band, but your download is still the same. With FTP the only capping would be at the end server, or if it is saturated/slots filled. Once you have the connection and the server allows it you get full download ability then FTP pees all over BT.

For example.
BT started on my machine in work. ETA after 3 hours = 2 days.
FTP from neocron.org. Completly downloaded in 20 minutes.

I also tried BT at home and it said the similar ETA (after it balanced out), FTP'ing from neocron.org would of taken 11 hours at home.

Hell no it isnt, they arent an ISP, they arent a web hosting company.
They cant be expected to have unlimited amounts of bandwidth.

No they are a company that makes revenue from people playing the game. They are hosting an open beta not to squash bugs (although that is a side effect) but to advertise the game and get as many new players as possible. So yes it is unfair to have the community fill the bandwidth and then charge that community later. At the very least they should set up more seeds and/or an FTP site.

Especially to those who are already here and definetaly going to upgrade anyway.

There has been no word on patching open beta up to retail. Lets hope they do.

@ first bit - of coarse there is, if your talking of ISP DL limits....

@ BT cap - that is client based, not network based.

@ the so called test - You have BT uploading at unlimited while doing that shit? i bet not, bet you closed off your uploading proggies.
Another bit of proof is me on my unlimited (10Mbps)/128k cable connection...
why can i play games/ DL things fine with overnet uploading at 5KB/s, but max out my uploads and not only does my overnet DL's slow, but i cant play games... website DL's (normally 400KB/s or so) go at about 40KB/s max.

Everything on the net both sends and receives packets, not just for transfering, but for confirming that packets arrived safely, and the like. the quicker you can get them back, the quicker it sends you the next bit.

I dont agree about them having to give it out to everyone. you do realise if they were to host it to everyone you wouldnt even have it yet, or in another 5 days.... as stated before... they arent an ISP.

Archeus

@ first bit - of coarse there is, if your talking of ISP DL limits....

No I am talking about the physical transmission of data from one point to another. It cannot go faster then its limit for that mode of transfer (at best you will get is the speed of light).

Nothing to do with ISP DL limits.

@ BT cap - that is client based, not network based.

Exactly. Which is why FTP vs BT, FTP will win if the end site has no capping (such as Neocron.org).

@ the so called test - You have BT uploading at unlimited while doing that shit? i bet not, bet you closed off your uploading proggies.

No, I used BT in its set options for that particular network, as well as opened up (or checked they were open) the ports needed to run fine.

That is not entirely true either, but not offtopic.

You don't need to be an ISP to host. You just need the bandwidth. Something of the costs they are transferring to the community, while billing the community for using the game after the free beta is over.

The free beta isn't for bug hunting/changing the game mechanics. It's an advertisement.

They could quite easily give the upload to game sites that can handle the bandwidth, there are also other systems out there that stop site saturation and allow people to download fast (Eg. http://www.akamai.com which handle all the movies for apple and other companies).
