I have invites coming out my wazoo.. I have 6.
First 6 PM's get them (you need to give me an internet address to send the invite to).

You need to supply an email address to whoever is giving out invites.
Also if you get more then one invite, don't activate more then one. It effects your chances of getting invites later (to stop spammers).

why the fk would people want a gmail account if i wanted email with add's attached to it etc i'd install my own add shit onto my own mail server.
i mean why would i want hinch1239083214659810923649blbkasd94@gmail.com when i could have hinch@furious-angels.com or hinch@uk-pornstars.co.uk or one of many many domain names which are above all rememberable and 2ndly accessiable without needing to open up a webbrowser. oO

You can also access gmail without a web browser.
Until you have used Gmail, you won't realise how great it actually is.

Yea, yea whatever. Claiming it's crap without even using it, and the best you can come up with is the name sounds funny.
Btw, adverts in gmail? Very small and hardly noticable (doesn't activate on all mails either). Uses ad-sense, which is a lot less intrusive then any other advertising mechanism.
It also has one of the best anti-spam systems I have seen.
i have a distinct distaste for all webmail based systems. thats why i run my own mail server and have my own domains. and from what i've heard from people who were in the early beta ie: months ago its just not worth it

Are they still in it? I just wonder because, if they were they would tell you that the system has been changing over the last few months, from better UI, to added features.
Of course it is still Beta, and is expected to change more. It is still faster/better then any other web based email system.

yes they are and yes i know its changed and indeed the current inerface does look nice but its just evil.
im kinda webmail phobic but more to the extent that why waste time getting an address that is uncontrollable by yourself when you could have a domain that is 100% controllable by you.

What makes you think your domain is under your control? You only lease it.
i do indeed only lease it however its a domain thats associated with me so its easy it also has webservices and ts and various other things associated to it.
how bad would it look to have community and community services running on domain A but yet all email goes to domain B which is publicly branded as a "google" service.
simple marketing excercise why do companies use theirdomainname.com for email instead of hotmail.com or gmail.com. answer is its because that name is associated with them and they have control of what appears on that domain.

But then your assuming that everyone wants to take the time to set up their own domain just to have email. Or that everyone is a company, or can afford it. You kind of prove that point by having webmail for others.

It uses advert revenue to create the service. But to say it is just spamming adverts is an insult.

Point I was trying to make was, your domain is no more secure/yours then a webmail system. All it needs is a laspe in payment or someone to contest it and they can take it from you.

good to see others are sending out invites. the more people that get into gmail,
the better they can test it. etc
just wanted to comment, you don't need someone's email to send an invite,
just make up a name and email on the invite screen and the email is put into
your Gmail "Sent Folder". Goto that folder on your account and the invite email
will be there, just copy and paste the link and PM it to people.
For those who envy gmail because of it's superior _free_ service with zero setup
time and spam blocking, antivirus blocking abilities and can't be arsed to switch..
well.. your situation sucks. Personally, I have 3 email accounts... ISP, hotmail and
gmail.
