Meh, k, so I bought myself another 512mb stick of RAM today. So I got 1gig of RAM. Which is sufficient.

So, I was wondering, what should I buy next?

Cant remember everything I got in atm, all I can remember is

Athlon XP2400+ (@2ghz)
Radeon 9800 pro
1024mb DDR RAM

Cant remember rest off top of my head. But, things im lookiung to upgrade:

17" LCD TFT Monitor (Upgrade from my current 15" LCD TFT thingy)
or
New Sound card + surround sound
or
New CPU + Mobo (Looking at an AMD64, but could be a bit expensive :p)
or
Just surround sound + Gaming Headset or
New HDD
or
Some random games.

Anyone?

i would do nothing.

Wait till HL2 comes out, and if it doesn't run to your liking get the Althon 64 mobo + processor.

Its what I am going to do - although I will be looking see how it works on my graphics cards rather than CPU...

Interestingly I decided to buy another stick of RAM today too, along with a new (ish) Graphics card (I am a student, can't afford much :D).

As for what to upgrade next, depends what you want more. Monitor is prob a good idea as it is better for your eyes (I got a 19" one). However an upgrade of your Mobo and CPU always is good when giving a boost to your comp.

I'm not buying HL2.

I stand by my theory of not trying to re-invent the wheel with sequels.

A bigger monitor is always a good choice. I have been using 21” monitors for the last 5 years (currently, a Sony GDM-F520) and whenever I see a friend’s smaller monitor I am reminded of how important it is. Plus, a big monitor is something you can use with your next computer. You won’t outgrow it as fast.

Any good monitor suggestions?

Edit : Sony GDM-F520 prices... .umm...

Price range: $1,437.00 to $1,755.95 at 3 stores

Any good monitor suggestions?Sorry, can't help you. I bought my current monitor several years ago but it still has plenty of life left. I haven't researched new monitors in quite a while.

Edit: It was one of the first flat screen CRTs when I bought it and yes it was very expensive, around $2,000. Sony is no longer developing CRT monitors but you can find some really nice 21" CRT monitors for $400-$600.

I'd go for either more RAM (seriously, I would), a quick-n-easy processor upgrade (AthlonXP 3000+ sounds right up your alley, cheap and pretty damned fast), or a monitor that isn't the size of my pinky. I always go for CRT, since I think they just plain work better, but as far as TFTs go...

Samsung SM710NSS is your daddy. (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=1618788903&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=63463) I bought one for the spare computer and have never regretted it. It looks sleek, it's bright, extremely sharp, and has no dead pixels. I've also never noticed any typical TFT delay or blurring when gaming on it. Neat! Oh, and it's perfect for taking around with you. Lightweight (like, REALLY lightweight), built like a tank, with a nice, thin bezel. All that for just £246.74 inc VAT. Bargain!

a 15" tft has a damn good view range so wouldn't borther upgrading that

imho buy a 5.1 card and a nice speaker set surround ownz.. got my set for 1 year and 9 months now.. and even back then this creative 5.1 card was just something like 30 euro's with a ceative inspire 5100 set.. of 80ish euro's

but that was almost 2 years back so i gues you can get a damn nice set now.. esp if you gonna spend the same cash on new sound as a new 17" tft would set you back lol. you can trow in a headset or 2 in to then :p

Upgrade your processor, nothing more.

I myself am waiting 2 generations(of GPU technology, so the GEForce 8900, but will buy a Radeon XII800 (Because with the release of the X800, ATI seems to have gone to way of the roman numeral :) )). But I do suggest a new processor, I have a 3.2 ghz P4 overclocked to 3.512 GHZ. I suggest either you do the same (buy a 3.2 ghz P4, since they are pretty cheap now) or buy an AMD 64 FX-53 (if your going to upgrade, GET THE BEST DAMMIT!)

Opar, im 14 too. Get a job, or, do what I do, Play mmo's, and sell the fake currency to idiots who will pay real money for it

Oh, and to elaborate, im 14, and I put ATLEAST 1,500$(USD) into my PC :D
Specs:

Pentium 4 3.2 GHZ with Hyper-Threading
60 GIG 5000 RPM western digital hard drive
250 GIG 7500 RPM western digital External Hard Drive
Asus P4P800 SE Motherboard
Some shitty DVD/CD rom drive (dont know its specs, its one of my many salavaged parts!)
Antec Lanboy 2
450 watt power supply
Radeon X800 Pro, 256 megs of ddr3 ram.
512 megs of ddr ram, clocked at PC3200 (meaning to buy a new stick, infact already ordered one!)
Also, consider yourself lucky to live in europe, your currency is worth about twice as much as ours

(Oh, and just an FYI, All 1,500$ was money I earned, no gifts! And most of those parts I bought myself (Except my hard drive[60 gigs], moniter[not listed], and my DVD/CD rom drive[Hence not having its specs!]).

Haha. Thing is, it's a good job. I have a friend who runs really high-level bots on European Ragnarok Online, and eBays the cash/rare drops he finds for a decent amount of cash. Last he told me, he has seven active accounts, and they all play at the same time... just running around bashing monsters 24/7, and playing "Hide From The GMs". In the meantime, I work in retail Hell and probably get less than he does.

Thank God Neocron is bot-free :)

Get a 19'' Flatron, sure no TFT but u can run 1600x1200 and u be far cheaper so u can get a new HDD as well.

Id suggest a 21" CRT Samsung SyncMaster 1100df black from ebuyer.com ... why ebuyer? Well when i got mine a few weeks ago it was mis priced and only cost me £137 :D This is for a screen CRT that will do 2048x1536 @ 72hz. The white version was on the same site for over £300 so clearly it was mis priced or a clear out, it did go up after i bought mine though hehe, i dont know what its at now but worth a look see.

Other than then that i

1- wouldnt bother with more ram unless your into video / audio editing
2- wouldnt get another barton, pointless yours is nicely ocd and the price / performance isnt worth it
3- wouldnt bother with SC or 5.1 as, imo, a good set of headphones are just as good, if not better

If you wanted to blow some cash id go for a monitor or an A64 rig, i <3 mine :D
