View Full Version : Google's new GMail (beta)

I just wanted to know what people think about GMail. Personally it's the best
webbased email since hotmail... cough

I've had my hotmail account for 5 years speaking of which, and it has a measly
2 MB of space total for free accounts. GMail gives 1GB of space, enough to fill
a untouched mailbox for years perhaps. Hotmail is due to increase their space
because of GMail actually..

Also, I have about 19 invites if anyone wants a free account. I bought my account
off eBay ironically for $8... when GMail goes "gold", your account will remain
active, currently Gmail is beta and accounts can only be created by an invite.

I'm OK, thanks.

For some odd reason my normal ravening desire for targetted advertising seems to be on the blink today. ;)

To those who've asked for invites, i've sent them via PM.

Just follow the link and create an account. The link will expire 16 days from today
so make it snappy.

Daily, gmail gives all it's members invites from time to time so when you get yours,
be sure to invite a friend or two.... to fulfil your duty as a beta member :)

(have about 12 invites left)

EDIT: for those still confused, goto http://www.gmail.com

Sent some more invites. For those who created accounts with gmail, do you like
it? Fast, ingenious grouping of mails, archiving, searching your mail, storage...
_FREE_

I think they've got every company beat in the email department. And at the
same time, their unique advertising based on email content allows them to
provide it for free... well that's my hunch.

Sent some more invites, didn't think people would be this interested... There are
some people who made a killing selling invites on eBay, but it's exhausted now..
50 invites sell for like 5 dollars or something..

Hope everyone enjoys their account... time to hit the hay, if anyone wants an account
there are still invites available, PM me or request it here and i'll get back to you
via PM.

I just wanted to know what people think about GMail. Personally it's the best
webbased email since hotmail... cough
forgetting about the cough.... hotmail was actualy always one of the worst webbased emails, with the least extra services, slowest mailserver, and stupid conditions... especialy those conditions got worse over time(while they increase the services and speed)...
Personaly I've always prefered a pop account which is also accesable trough webbased interface. I still do.

gmail is a clean site, speedy, extreem storage (for its type), its very userfriendly, and the banners are actualy usefull sometimes... but are also my main concirn... while they don't use humans to decide what banners to place... they (and probably their customers to) can view which banners are viewed more by which account... thus also being to gues for some of the emails content.
Not that I have anything to hide (which is why I'm using it anyway :p) but still I think its a little on the edge with that.

I never liked hotmail, just couldn't be arsed to change until gmail came along
and persuaded me to do so.

While I agree that gmail is a great web based email (they may offer smtp/pop
in the future, but to paying customers me thinks) yet i also agree it is a bit
on the edge, showing us adverts based on email content. But at the same time,
it's quality advertising. If i emailed a friend asking about something, i'd probably
get a advert related to the problem.. it could help in rare cases. But, some
people are paranoid no doubt... everyone has to realize we are getting 1GB
of storage space and a very nice email service for free... Hotmail's PLUS package
costs like $20-30 a year or something... and thats for like 250MB of storage.

I'd say, their advertising efforts compensate for the ability to offer gmail for
free. I really don't worry about the content of my mail anyhow, only terrorists
planning attacks should worry about this :)

btw.. sent alot of people invites, have a few left i believe.

its ub3r, just like wow is going to destroy every other mmorpg imo, google is going to pwn every1 else. I would say hotmail usage will die off considerably if/when this hits proper
