Anyone remember those Olimpic games where you had to wiggle your Joystick really fast to run, shot put, etc. But in the end the only thing you suceeded in was breaking your Joystick? Masterbat0rs owned at those kinda games.

Kid Icarus so needs a sequel. Goddamned eggplant wizard...

That said, there's so many class games in this thread. Bionic Commando is still Crazy McFun, the original Mario Bros I'm still playing right now... beaten it a bazillion times and it never gets old. You're in another castle, Princess? Oh, you cad! BATTLETOADS!! I too shattered one perfectly good NES controller on that. Battletoads on SNES then made me shatter a perfectly good SNES controller. Classic title. Rygar (I think someone said that) I lost so much time to, and Metroid (while I think the NES Metroid is today totally unplayable) was so HOLY FUCK at the time it needs a mention. A bazillion mentions. I think someone mentioned Master Blaster, which I've heard is all kinds of awesome, so I think I'll start scouring eBay for it.

PS Eric-the-ded, "Uh-oh, the truck have started to move!!" is Metal Gear

Personally, my favourite NES game (that I own, at least) for mistranslations is Battle Rangers.

1. The Legend of Zelda
2. Mario 3
3. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (seriously, it took like 10 years for that game to grow on me enough to like it).

Oh, and for co-op games, in no particular order it would have to be:

Double Dragon 2
Contra
Jackal

bounty

Contra
Excitebike
Ikkari Warriors

Not sure if it was 8 bit or not, but I've always lovde the orignal Chrono Trigger on my, erm, SNES emulator.

EDIT: Oh, and Target Renegade on the Spectrum. I must have accumulated weeks worth of game time playing that in co-op with my friends.

I seem to remember reading somewhere once that work was being done on a new Kid Icarus game on the Gamecube. Can't remember where though.

---

Anyway, Bionic Commando is still one of the most ingenious games ever. I'm sure we can all agree on that, or at least those of us who've played it can.
Beyond that, I'm the only person in the world who thinks Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is still one of the best Zelda games. Lots of people hated it though, it was just ahead of it's time, considering the modern Zelda games are a lot more like it.

You sir, are a God among men. Zelda II is still one of my favourite in the series, way ahead of it's time. Probably just too ahead of it's time for it's own good, though...

Classic NES games for me are

Zelda 1
Mario 1, 2, and 3
Contra 1
Metroid 1
Final Fantasy 1

Those are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head.

I don't mind Zelda 2, but it is and ever will be the bastard red-headed step-child of the Zelda line. And it is *not* like the current Zeldas. There's no God-damned Iron Knuckles for one. Those guys were the single fucking hardest enemy I've ever fought in *any* Zelda game, especially when you were in a tight hallway and couldn't jump. I HATE them, especially the blue ones. *shudder* After Zelda 2 there have never been any Zeldas that have an XP-based skill system, either.

SNES games... Crono Trigger would have to be my all time favorite (I think I've logged over 80 hours of play time on my cartridge version, all my characters are at least around level 80; can kill Lavos in like 5 minutes if my luck is good :p), followed closely by Metroid 3 and Zelda 3. Final Fantasy 6 is up there, too. And how could I forget about Secret of Mana. That game rules. I got all my guys up to level 99 with level 9 spells and weapons. :p

Only one comes to mind that I STILL enjoy playing o.O the Wizards & Warriors series, in particular W&W3.

Other than that there mario 1,2,3
kirby's adventure (hmm or was that 16bit)
top spin
Pro AM racing

Hmm well thats about all I still remember from those days, though I recognize alot of the above pictures (though some of them I played on pc... never knew they where on nes to)

I so agree, Master Blaster is GREAT and Rygar was really good too, I loved the xp gain. I also liked:

Metroid
Zelda
Super Mario 2
Gunshot
Lifeforce
Goonies (spell?)

Hm so many good games, castlevania, Lolo, battletanks, ice climbers, pro am, Link, well thats all I can come up with now :P
