2.2.0 is the latest version of Ventrilo. It's dead sexy.

And TeamSpeak has horrible audio quality. Every TS server I've ever been on has been a garbled mess, with people spamming "Sorry, what was that?" every other sentence. Even PC Gaming journos agree - Ventrilo may be lacking in features, but there really isn't any better.

it means your ventrillo installation is somehow faulty, i had it too, uninstall it, delete the ventrillo dir(s) from program files, and install again, that should fix it fine

You cant. The free verisons of Ventrilo are hard coded to a maximum of 8 connections per server, also the server auto binds to the global interface (binding to all IPs on the server), so you cannot setup multiple servers on one machine.

Ventrilo (Flagstaff, Inc) will only sell licences to registered corporations only. No personal/indvidual sales.

I use both regularly and they are both good programs, but i find that TS2 pips vent with a better interface and sound quality.

They are both very close though, and anyone that says 'ts2 sounds a garbled mess' obviously hasnt set it up correctly, or someone else on their server hasnt either.

Only other thing i can think of is that the ts2 server you used was on high compression, which can really slam the bandwidth rate down - but at the cost of quality, or again that it was hosted on someones crap connection.
A server based setup is much better than a 'personal hosted'.

GSM 16.4 is normally fine for most users, and its not far off mobile phone quality voice.

Only real gripe with TS2 i have, is that it can be a little more tempremental than ventrilo for setting up with users with older/poor sound cards, or sound setups on their rig.

Ventrilo has loads of other nice little features, such as voice readout - but overall i find it a weaker product which can tend to lag more as well at the same compression values as TS2.

Saying that, they are both free to use and it's whatever suits you more :)
