Alright, we're all familiar with the current drone system... Love it or hate it, one has to admit its a unique and interesting way of playing the game.
Now, we all know the droner is supposed to be a little wuss, a pussy, a weakling, a sad miniscule human being, a waste of material, practically a geriatric, to quote R. Lee Ermey: "The best part of you [droners] ran down the crack of your momma's ass and ended up as a brown stain on the matress".
All that aside, I propose a way to make droners more interesting and more fitting with the world as put forth by the history and faction histories.
Walking drones! - wait, what?
Think WarBots, actually they're antique powerarmor, but since the wearer is long since been dustified, I think they can be classed sort of in the same section as drones...
Neocron supposedly has alot of walking talking bots, now sit tight there bucko's, what do you think COPbots are? Hell, supposedly most of the strippers in Pepper Park are supposed to be "Pleasure models" of various robots and such.
Of course, all we see are CopBots and STORM units... Which is really lacking in my opinion.
My full proposal as follows: Introduce a section of drones which use walking models. These drones would, like the current, have limited weaponry and health/charge. These drones would have dual uses: 1.) It can be equipped and used like a normal drone. 2.) It would be able to be placed and used as a turret in the new player apartments - players would use a special device to engage the turret. I'm not really a turret dude so I've no clue how... But it would be awesome for tradeskill spy workshop apartments, no? I mean, they can't protect themselves, but perhaps they can arrange for some awesome protection?
Imagine having a bunch of ABC bots from Judge Dredd around your table... The door to your apartment opens... Some thug walks in and pulls a gun, says "LOL, UR dOOR IS UNLOCKED NIB"... You target, activate the device... And the drones attack - forcing the dude to either die or run... Or kill the drones and you. :P
What would be a benefit from a walking drone? There wouldn't be any really, just more diversity... And that's never a bad thing.
Why would people want to use them? Because they're cool. :cool:
How would they operate differently? First off, they wouldn't be flying. Secondly, the weapons would be limited. The first thought that came to mind in regards to this idea were SENTINALS, and similar bipedal attack bots. I would imagine having a nailgun model, a laser model... Perhaps a fusion model - I wouldn't suggest having an AOE model since it would kill itself easily.
What type of skins would it use? I can see it using models like houndbots, sentinals, maybe even smaller spiderbots. The weapon would probably determine the model/skin thing.
OMG, droners would carry like, 600 of these? No, I only imagine them carrying one or two. These would be immensely heavy... Because they're not tiny little flying things. These also wouldn't really be for newbie droners, so I don't think carry weight would be an issue.
What would they be made of? I think it would be awesome if they could require weapon and vehicle parts - but I'm an idea man who has no idea about programming stuff and limitation crap... So I have no idea if its possible.
Would a walking drone be able to compete against like... A PE? I think it would be awesome if it could... But I think the PE's would complain. Balance would be the word of the day if this occured.
Would they blow up? Yes, if they don't get repaired in time just like normal drones.
