Get a (much) cheaper AMD processor (e.g. 2500+?) - as they tend to overclock to 3200+ and further levels without at a much cheaper price.

That's where I went wrong =(

Everything else seems ok...

Good chioce to go AMD :). If you want to OC get the 2500 mobile if not thats a good choice for a chip.
Very good mother board you will like it.
If you have the money to spare you might want to get 2 512 sticks of ram. If not 512mb's will be fine.
Not a bad hard drive.
good video card.
Never heard of Q-tec power supplies. I would recomend a name brand PSU. A antec/zalman/sparkle/fortron or enermax in one of these brands you would only need a 380w or so. I use a antec true blue 430w power supply on my O/C'd rig rock stable.

Actually.. Q-tec are a really cheap brand of PSU come to think of it. I had one and it was far from perfect.

Also, I have your mobo :D
Just make sure you're buying the v2 version - which has so many enhancements over the original revision.

That is because NC in it's current state relies more on CPU then it does graphics card. NC only sends maybe 5% of it's information to your GPU. After the DX9 upgrade it will be alot more GPU intensive.

Good rig, but two things of note.

1 - Q-Tec PSUs are cheap for a reason, I got one and the thing caused me all sorts of problems, I'd recommend spending extra to get a 460 or 480 watt model from a more established brand.

2 - Like people have said you can overclock AMD CPUs fairly safely, the new generation of AMD mobile CPUs are especially good for this.

Read the forums as www.techreport.com and ask questions, they'll help you out.

With the money you save you might be able to pick up a cheap 9800pro that'd be a big improvement over the 9600XT.

*pointing out that there still are barton core 2500+'s in circulation that can't be overclocked without the need for manual frying circuits on the CPU*

yes don't get a qtec psu.. i'v been on some comp forums for a while ( while i was modding and upgrading my comp ) and qtec's suck ass.. a 500 watt qtec deliver as much as a 350 watt from a good brand..

i would say go ennermax but thats cheap cause i got a 460 watt ennermax myself.. or at least take a better one ;)

and i overcloaked my amd 2200+ to 2800+ with ease.. just popped up a good cooler instead of the stock cooler tho.. but it doen't get any warmer then it was with the stock cooler on a more normal speed.

That's the multiplier lock. The FSB isn't locked and can be increased to overclock instead.

If you get a mobile 2500 or 2600 the multi and FSB are fully adjustable.

it flies in neocron, and...any other game for that matter.

my XP2500 overclocks to a 3200 by changing about 3 settings int he bios and seems stable, only tested it for 1 hour tho i was too afraid of it overheating but when i went into the biod the temp was about 4-5 degrees higher than normal (about 48) and my cpu under full load never goes above 42-43.

and go for a 9800pro they are slighlty more expensive than a 9600xt and well worth it.

Just so you know, the NF7-S is a discontinued motherboard.
