Massively Multiplayer Hell (http://mmhell.com) is running a contest to win ten accounts for the Beyond Dome of York beta test. You can find the details on the contest page (http://mmhell.com/articles/contests/science_fiction_beta_contest_double.html).
What the contest is about: "In order to be eligible for one of the Beyond Dome of York Accounts you have to create some artwork for us. To be more exact: It should be YOUR vision of the HackNet. This can be anything from a pink dimension inhabited by flower-like creatures, or the winner of a Matrix lookalike contest. Use your imagination and create an image of what you think the HackNet is like."

This contest was organized by 10tacel and mmhell.com.

I like the look of hacknet, very expansive, I wish they could have showed it in more detail, like all the various goings-on that happen inside... But I don't really mind because the female character, the new maps, and the customisable apartments really made it worthwhile :)

Actually I hope some non-NC-players getting into the beta. Fresh eyes are MUCH better at spotting problems in established systems. I was going to mention this before but forgot. :o

As far as I know, everything's allowed, as long as it does not contain copyrighted material. It does have to do with HackNet stuff though, so sending in your collection of Drom/Marsh Hippo/Hazard Worm porn is unlikely to let you win. ;)

Ok I know this is just a graphically alterened NC picture, but its how I see Hacknet. I see it as the energy representation of the world. Everything would be made up of energy. There would still be trees, animals, etc... but they would all be energy. Hackers logged into Hacknet would look like themselves except their skin would be dark black. The sky would sorta be a vast expanse of pulsing energy, exploding and mixing together sorta like a sea.

@ Drake6k - Hmmm, the two photoshop filter entrys actually look pretty good :(

maybe when I get back from vancouver ill touch mine up in order to compeat.

Errrm, I forget who did the one with the directX shader + the matrix code. (EDIT: Guess they took it down) but that one looked sweet good job. Im thinking about adding a green ascii shadder screen shot blended into mine, might look good. :p

On the other hand; I thought beta accounts would be given to competent gamers with skills of testing stuff, not handed out with breakfast cereals.. or to people who can paint.

I'm good at finding bugs (Microsoft security knows that), i've played several games since 1983 when i got my first computer, i know lots of networking (down to programming TCP/IP applications on sockets level) databases and grahic interfaces. I'm very persistent (check your server logs for 18h+/day logins) and i can write bugreports.

Why dont you start putting some demands on beta testers instead of just handing em out to joe-average gamers?

This contest is for a mere 10 accounts and another 10 (unconfirmed mind) with the other comp.

Beta is also the time to expand and gain publicity.
A guy plays NC and tells his mates about it, an NC long term player won't, his mates have had the 'NC is cool' speach over and over, they are either playing or will ignore further encouragement.
New players and spreading of the game's influence via all medium is essential. Word of mouth has been the primary method of publicity for NC, regardless of whether better methods are being deployed it should not be discarded.

Besides, an independant and fresh view of the game is needed within the beta, not just that of those that have been playing for 2 years.

I wouldn't want to win this perhaps.

If it were to be revealed that I were to get into the beta anyway, but I am told I can't have a second account, then that means that I would feel that the first account (the one from the comp) would be the one that 'counted' and that I would therefore be in the beta, not for being a dedicated member of the community and concerned with the state of NC2, but because I drew a crappy picture.

Firstly - no-one commenting here has seen this NDA so we don't know that it stops people mentioning their inclusion.

Secondly, as the competition and it's results are publicly available information (and have to be by law if it's a competition) then that clause, if it exists, would not apply to them. They could be asked to avoid excessive attention but that's about it.
