reboot.

Or CTRL-ALT-DEL and select task manager and start removing programs there. Only remove stuff you know you can remove or you will make XP unstable.

Really the best way would be to simply log out and log back in. XP has one of the best memory managing systems at least as far as micro$oft goes.

You also could go into your task manger and kill some process that are using alot of memory. Simplest way would be to kill explorer and then start a new process and name it explorer. You also could start NC alt-tab out and kill explorer and dont start a new one untill you want to do something else.

If you're looking for a program that helps clear unused memory, go with Cacheman. If you google it, it should come up instantly. The program is very nice, you can have it manually recover memory, or set it to recover memory each time your computer drops below a specified amount.

With Neocron's memory leaks, setting it to recover each time it drops below 75 free megs works wonders for me. Good luck, hope I helped some.

you can safely remove everything in Taskmanager in XP thats being used by you username, without worring about system stability. If you want to free up some extra memory, you can also end "explorer.exe" and go to "file then run" to start your programs

Here ya go man...

http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

That should help you out with what you're looking for. Just be sure to know that I'm not responsible if you turn off a key service that you might need later. ;)

There are great progs out there that help you with freeing up ram,

System Mechanic 4 http://www.iolo.com (http://www.iolo.com/) is a great all around app
it not only purges ram, it also defrags it :O

if you are just looking for a memory purger on freeware and small size, try rambooster http://www.sci.fi/~borg/rambooster/

it comes with a 30 day trial. trust me d0odz.. this app is excellent, worth every penny. give it a try. you wont regret it.

its got one of the best pop up stoppers and reg tweakers in the business.

it competes with norton systemworks and beat the pants off Norton.

I cant preach this enough.

" There are no more virtual memory or swap file delays (since now they are as fast as RAM) and there are no more System Disk Defrags (memory is random so it does not need defragging)"

From Go-L.com... PuRam Harddrive... Basically is a "drive full of ram".. maybe be "flash ram?" but is still ram.

Now to my point, Ram doesnt need defragging.. its instant access, it doesnt search, it knows where everything is held in the ram and doesnt need to find parts all over the place... (??)

This made me laugh. Virtual memory/page file are on your hard drive. Hard drives to not have a seek time anywhere near as fast as ram.

System disk defrags are still very important for any windows system. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise. Yes memory is random but the access speeds are far faster then hard drives. That is why there is no need to defrag them. Plus i've never heard of a program to defrag your memory

What there talking about is called a ram drive plain and simple. You can get programs that you can tell them what to load into your memory be it game files or anything really. I really do not see a purpose for it unless you have over a gig of ram. And i dont think that it knows where the files are in your ram. It's just the fact that memory speeds are better then harddrive speeds so it seems like it does becuase everything would load faster.

Really i would just get myself a raid setup going. I'm using raid zero on my gaming rig and love it. Will probally use raid 5 on my render machine once it's up and running and i can afford all those drives.
