Decided to take a look at the 10tacel site to see if they have updated it, seems they have with what, to me, sounds like good news.

Frank Holz and Marcel Jung join 10tacel as Director of Marketing and Product Manager respectively.

July 1st, 2004. - The Darmstadt-based developer and co-publisher 10tacel studios AG is reinforcing its marketing team by employing two new staff members. As of today, Frank Holz is in charge of the business fields Marketing & Sales. Product Manager Marcel Jung will be responsible for the coordination of product and PR specific marketing activities.

Holz, an industrial engineer, began his career as a marketing consultant with the Daimler Benz subsidiary debis Marketing-Services. After three years, the now 36-year-old changed jobs, working as a product manager for Mannesmann Mobilfunk for the next two years, before joining ATARI in 1998, where he was promoted to Marketing Director after only one year.

After his degree in business studies, Marcel Jung initially worked as PR- and Marketing Manager for deuromedia GmbH, an international software enterprise for broadband communication solutions, before joining a Berlin-based publishing company in 2002, where, in his function as assistant editorial manager, he supervised the publication of a new sports magazine. Before joining the games industry, the 30-year-old was chief editor of the international economic magazine export-magazin.

"Thanks to Frank Holz and Marcel Jung, our marketing department now has the clearly defined structure we require in order to meet our ambitious targets, and I am convinced that we will achieve quite a lot within the market with this experienced team. Last but not least, Frank Holz is one of most renowned marketing personalities in the games industry, and I am proud to have won him over for our enterprise and its ideas. Another important step in the market positioning of 10tacel studios AG has now been made", CEO Michele Pes says about the expansion of his marketing team.

Virtual virtuality thanks to HackNet Dematerialised spies in the data streams of almost insurmountable security systems - in September, gamers of the post-apocalyptic online role-playing game Dome of York will experience a spell binding parallel world made up of bits and bytes.

Darmstadt / Hannover, June 2004 – Reakktor Media and 10tacel studios AG are launching an imaginative game feature which will play a decisive role in relation to the world’s one and only cyberpunk MMORPG Dome of York: HackNet. By accessing virtual cyber nets, gamers have the opportunity of hacking into various security systems throughout the online world. Espionage and conspiracy are a part of everyday life in the epic last days events.

Comparable to a kind of cyberspace, HackNet is an integral parallel world within the game universe of Dome of York. Only with the help of special hacking tools are gamers able to access this three-dimensional matrix via so-called genetic replicators (GenReps). Modified, abstract versions of computer invaders face the precarious dangers of data banks: security programs, firewalls, viruses and hackers are out there on a mission to disrupt virtual domestic peace. Different degrees of difficulty, functions and mannerisms as well as HackNet-specific weapons contribute to the thrill of the hacker’s everyday life.
Trouble makers disrupting the data stream stand their ground in the classical first-person shooter manner and pull the plug on computerised grousers. When virtual opponents destroy the cyber persona of the game’s main character, the only remaining option is the physical reconstruction at the previously activated GenRep.

Horizontal, two-dimensional surfaces convey fascinating impressions of HackNet. Spread over various levels, they allow the viewer to see the gigantic architecture of the matrix. Using additive rendering and the transparency of the surfaces, the German development studio Reakktor Media has managed to portray the surfaces melting into ever new, shining colours, independently of the perspective.

From reading that, it looks like KK are killing the name Neocron, and it will just be called Dome Of York, there is no reference to NC in it at all.

Which is always a good thing my young padawan, NC has some horrible connotations, no?

Losing the name Neocron will also lose the dislike other had for the current version for the game whether from playing it or word of mouth and a new brand properly marketed will hopefully swell the number of players.

The initial release was called Neocron. Since 'Neocron' was already released, they are releasing 'Dome of York', or 'Beyond the Dome of York'.

When you read about Everquest expansions and the like, the same exact thing is done, unless of course they pull the "EQ:Blah blah blah".

There might also possibly be a legal issue with releasing a Neocron: game concerning CDV. (Speculation of course).
