Wow... madness =)

Try ebaumsworld for lots of these. I particularly like the "shadow" one I remember seeing there.

Anyway.. what works for me for the circle one is to look at the circle. Then look away at something else. I swear I saw it spin.. and when I look back at it - it stops.

EDIT: Can't figure out the middle triangle one :-/

Here's another one someone told me which confuddled me to no end:

- Three of your friends invite you to a meal.
- You go, but decide you don't want to eat.
- The bill comes to 30 pounds, and they pay you ten pounds each.
- You go to pay the bill, and find out they made a mistake - and it's only 25 pounds.
- You pocket 2 pounds, and give them 1 pound each back.
- So in effect, they only paid 9 pounds each for the meal (10 - 1 == 9).
- Therefore, the total cost of the meal is 9*3 == 27 + 2 == 29.
- But you were given 30 pounds! Where did that one extra pound go?

:P

Look at it again, it's not a real triangle. The hypotenuse on the top triangle bulges slightly in where the two triangles touch whereas the hypotenuse on the bottom bulges out. That slight difference is enough to create the "hole".

Its all in how you do the math. You take £30 to the counter, and are given £5 change. You pocket £2 = £3 left, give £1 to each = £3. £3+£2+£25=£30

You're right, it's in the math.
On the top example it says, "9*3 = 27 + 2...." That's the mistake. It should actually be 27 - 2 because you kept it. Thus follows Lexxuk's post in the truth.

Yeah, that's the answer to the 2nd one. I've looked at it for a while (about a year ago) and finally decided to do the math. the 2nd isn't a triangle.
