View Full Version : Nerf the bloody dragonflies.
I think I just found the reason why people don't level their noobs in the PP sewers... the rest of the sewer is filled with 13/13 mutants and stuff... and then theres the bloody dragonflies. Not only are they 20/20 but they are also way too powerful for their rank. Their damage is insane because very few classes that early on can spare str points for resist force, and they are almost impossible to hit with any form of ranged weapon.

yeah, my rank 15/20 melee tank can handle an entire storage hall solo, including the Launchers, but 2 dragonflies and he has to pop a medkit and run for the door.
Not to mention what they do to my Poor APU... the real problem is that they are so small and fast that you can't target the little blighters

I opened a few bursts on the Dragon fly, almost killed the bugger when I realised I had only 30 hp left.
I ran away, but it's uber range killed me flat.

But yes, please "nerf" them... The only class that can take them out good is #1 a ppu with a parabollt or #2 melee tank... HC tank cant hit them eaily because they are fast...

think i still gotta meet the first person in neocron who didnt get owned by one atleast once in he's or her life, me as a young noobmonk i died numreous times by em in my reconexpeditions into the sewers, and even worse in the wastelands :P
the wastelands ones are crazy ... 40/40 or 45/45 i dunno, they can even kill a capped spy or apu yust comming from the genrep with full synaptic ... they yust hit ya a few times from 200 meters away and wipe out youre legs ... ya cant walk and target decently :/

Edit: the Devs look at threads called " Don't Nerf the..." thats why stuff gets nerfed :)

i was at that event. it was when they spawned that DOY mob thing and you attacked it and tons and tons of dragonflys flew out of it and owned everyone... although we managed to kill about 150 - 140 of them with AoE tanks ^^

It's only low level characters with no resist force and barely any armor that seem vulnerable. The 5/5 dragonflies certainly don't scratch even a lowly Spy.
The only problem with them is that they are tiny. Big Dragonflies are the smallest 20/20 mob in the game. They almost have the same rank as Aggressors, yet they're the size of Small Spiders. In early retail dragonflies were huge. So I propose keep their damage, move the 20/20 ones somewhere else, and increase their sizes back to the old levels.

Thats why they hurt.
On a similar subject, remove the Mutant Gunmen from the cellars. They are alright in OZ storage, but in the cellars the gunmen make leveling far too difficult.

I can remember my clan's first trip out in into the wastes in early retail. Lore was there, Ezza may have been, not sure if Nid was, and a couple of others. The trip was cut short a few minutes in when Lore spotted a dragonfly in the distance and started sniping it. The whole clan was perforated with dragonfly darts from the swarm in the space of about 30 seconds. Needless to say, Lore wasn't too popular for a few days afterwards. :P

On a mores serious note from my last posts, I believe Dragonflies need removing from the sewer as they are a pain in the ass to newbies.
I also agree with the notion to remove Mutant gunmen from the Abandoned "System Shock 2" Rooms.

I'd like to be an NC dragonfly... it'd be cool to snipe ppl and then fly around them, then out of their range as they pointlessly fight back and miss.
man they don't seem dangerous to me, though I do distintively remember trying to run to MB on my hybrid back way when he was low level, and I was in the swamps with about 5 other people, we slowly died one by one, I was the last and then I ran, and go caught in more of them like 4-5 dragon flies and got pwned...
i remeber i was traveling the vast wastelands of the dangrous world when i came across a small dragon fly.
didnt think much of it so i kept on walking then i fell down a hill from one of their attacks. into a nest of dragon flys.
u havnt seen evil when u havnt seen 20 dragon flys shooting at u.
and i couldnt get out of the hole witht hem hitting me bak in. so i died :(

Heh there is a pool near Crest that has such a thing. Saw someone fall in one time, funny to watch.
I am more "Save the dragon flies!". Great monsters, I just run the hell away from them.
Btw, in PP sewers my level 35 APU can kill them without damage. Just wear force belt.

Idea for an uber dungeon for capped players.. The Dragonfly Nest!
You spawn in a completely dark room with no lighting whatsoever, 50 dragonflies of various types shooting at you and a 600/600 boss monster "Teh Uber Drag0nf1y".
And give PPus a new lighting spell, strictly designed for use in that dungeon :P

Boredom. I had never been down that end of the sewers. I also tend to go through zones again after patches as KK have a habit of adding/removing things. Found a DOY bot in a spot in PP that no one ever went to a few weeks ago.
i remember running to and op for a op war coz i didnt have a GR, it was near crest village area, and (i was rank 58/67 then) and i saw this fucking mammoth dragon fly that was bigger than me and i just ran the other way lol

neocron's way of realismOn the other hand, I can't remember the bees or wasps being able to sting me from a few hundred meters distance, so you could say the unrealism of being able to shoot them properly with a gun get's balanced out by the unrealism of them being able to sting me from such range.
The problem with the dragonflies isn't their level, 20 is about right for OZ storage and sewers, the problem is the fact that they're so small you can't get a target lock unless you cap the aiming on your gun as a newb, and even as a mid-rank (rank 20-30) they're so hard to hit. Melee and APU stand a decent chance against them because they don't have to aim, as do any AoE users, but with like a rifler, forget it.
As to the mutant gunmen (mentioned a while back) if you know what you're doing they're easier than aggies, I usually use them as a stepping stone to get to the point where I can do aggies easily, hunting the gunmen-only aggie cellars in P4.
As to the higher-ranking dragonflies, they're nuts...
Same rank as a spiderbot sentry, same size as a small spider, direct poision damage that no newb is prepared for. Almost all over 50/50 and 45/45 mobs do mostly force or force/energy (Launchers, spiderbots, TH Sentry Guns...) but instant poision few lowbies are equipped to handle. How many newbs put more than a handful of points into PRR? and when was the last time you saw an xx/35 tank in Viper King armor? not to mention the fact that classes that CAN use poison resist armor (like the belts) aren't wearing them in the wastes, they're wearing force/peirce armor and deflector belts or energybelts

Another thing thats irritating is because they're so small and coloured in just the right way they camoflage in with the plains so you can't actually see them until you find yourself on 24 health. :(

Yeah, dragonflies are amazingly powerful. First ran into them a long time ago when i started exploring around Point Red as a */20. I learned to totally avoid them and run like hell if any came after me - too hard to target and real killers if i tried to fight them. In a way i thought it was cool having deadly creatures out there that might suddenly aggro after you with you not even knowing it until Zap!!! Even now i keep an eye out for them and go extra cautious if i hear them buzzing nearby. Wouldnt want to see dragonflies nerfed in general, but agree they are way too nasty to be in the sewers.

One thing I do like about the dragonflies is that they are so agressive.
It's kind of subtle but cool the way mob AI differs a bit (bet most of you never noticed even)
Like a tech-mobs seem to focus on one target to the exclusion of all others, but firemobs seem to 'spread the love' (or flame).
Same thing with agging on sight, or only if you have a weapon drawn. Those little variations make a hunge difference.
On the whole though the agg-on-sight hyper-agressive mobs are serious pains in the ass for newbies. They should be restricted to areas that typically only higher-ranked people go into. Give the NC gate, the MB bunker and TG canyon a zone or two without them so you're not going to get geeked as soon as you leave. I tried to leave Neocron my first day in game, just to see the wastes, 2 minutes out of OZ station a dragonfly got me. I gave up and didn't leave the city until I was xx/20 or so and had a PPU escort in a reveller, which is such a waste
It was dragonflies in fact that taught me that the outside was a damned dangerous place and i had to stay alert to stay alive. It was a great gaming experience in its own way. Let's not water down the experience for new players; they too should be surprised and then learn to be more alert and/or avoid nasty places. So where they are outdoors is fine. But again, they dont really belong in what i consider to be "noob" hunting areas such as the sewers and cellars of NC.
In general, i have no problem with there being mobs out there that i cant kill (or have trouble killing) but who can clobber me pretty fast. I figure it makes a more interesting game world. Dragonflies are a perfect example and should stay exactly as they are. Dont know how dangerous they are to me these days, being fully capped, but even if they can still kill me quick i wouldnt want to nerf them.

Back in the day, myself and a group of friends decided to risk the Wastelands, we were just noobs.
Full graphics, so all the grass was up.
We had managed to struggle to the Swamplands, and we were running through thick brush and reeds, we couldn't even see each other, when all we started hearing was that dreaded 'thhk' 'thhk' and screams over Teamspeak..
"I'M GOING DOWN!! WHERE IS IT COMING FROM?? HELP MEEEEEAAARGHH!"
One by one, six of us were killed in the swamps, and we had no idea what had killed us. Eventually we got back, to try and continue our journey, and as we went for our belts, we heard it again, and we all started to drop. As one of my mates turned and ran, he looked back to see an angry looking swarm of Dragonflies chasing the last of us down, random gunfire from us filling the sky..
We never went near the swamps again.
