View Full Version : OT: At work and getting angry, so pking tonight

Ok, so i'm at work, it was 15:30.

All of a sudden people start complaining they can't login anymore.
The damn server will connect with terminal server and remote desktop but netlogon doesn't work for the clients.
They keep getting the domain controler isn't available.

Seems like the router address was changed magicaly from 100.0.0.101 to 100.0.0.100. Cool, fix it back to original state so DHCP users get correct info.
Still doesn't work.
We try doing stuff to the registry like some websites say etc...

End up calling the morons from the external it department that is supposed to help us out (contract specifies this, but usualy we solve it ourselves before they even get to the problem)

It's now 18:00 and they've suggested some near idiotic childlike solutions like:
"go to start, do run, press cmd, do ipconfig...." like we don't know this and we've checked the stuff.

Then they say they'll start looking it up on the microsoft website.......

I'm so tempted to do an active directory restore. But i'll wait for the morons to call back.

So tonight i'm going on a killing spree, to get some stress off me.
It's either that or setting my neighbour's garage on fire.

Cya all tonight :-)

I know how you feel, I've extracted my vengance for losing the Tp's I got last night. CRP is a great place for Droners to kill. Muahaha..

Oh, and kudos to the Tank that managed to survive my Drone onslaught, well done my friend for some excellent tactics, but not so many kudos to the Proto, Dragon, and Tsnumai Runners that met the might of my Rigger Death!

18:30 The idiots call again.... "Euh, yes, we might have to do an active directory restore, but let us check some websites first".

I just can't believe where they get those idiots from. To think i studied MUSIC FFS !!!!!!!!!
And they studied computer sciences etc....

Should've called my buddy that's a civil engineer + he got himself and industrial engineer (computer sciences) just for the fun of it.

I'm gonna tell my boss they can change that contract when it expires to :"Hardware support Only"

Cya all tonight :-)That's nothing. We just had a broadcast storm that brought down our entire network. The admin and I had to go around to *all* our switches and physically power-cycle them.

Well might as well tell me story. Yesterday i had a unix(hpunix) machine crash on me. The stupid operater thought he needed to restart it so he powered it down hard. And tried to bring it back up. Need less to say it did not like that to much. Tried to let it run the fschk but that didn't help. So i was here rebuilding that peice of shit for a while.

Had a few drinks after i left here because of it. And got home and saturn was down. So it's on tonight be freinds. It's on. My BD tank has a MB promary apt :). This could be fun.

Our personel department secretary is now leaving.
We're the last one's holding the fortress now (my colleague and me).
So let's hope we don't have an enemy clan come in with rhino's to come hack the server...... Oops, daydreaming again.

Oh well, i guess my colleague and me are just gonna sit here and test CS dammage on each other while we're waiting for the idiots to call back.

Man, i'm realy in need of some NC it seems :-)

"Euh, hello.... I asked someone if it is safe to do an active directory restore. I have to ask , do you have other Domain controllers at your other sites?"

Me: "No, we have one here, but we run on a bilan SDSL network with them so bandwith is no problem, therefore we have one, and we're gonna put in a backup server to replicate the AD next month, so it is safe to do."

"Euh... Yes.... Euh, hold on, i'll ask again if it's safe to do, i will call you back in 30 mins" *click*

Me to my colleague:" I'm gonna kill this guy, i'mm gona rezkill him over and over......."

And to think that we have a pretty big unemployment rate in Belgium. I keep on wondering where they get these people. I'm sure there are a lot of capable people out there without a job.
If you live in Belgium, DM me, i'll give you the name of the company to send your applications to :-)

This is getting hilarious !

The guy (who's french, but speaks some poor english to us) calls back and starts talking about can you please help me out, i can't find the problem. The VPN ip address is ...... The pasword is,........

We go:" Hello ?????"

Him:"Yes, for the server, to log in".

We break out in laughter and he appologizes and says he will call back
Seems like he's getting so nervous that he pressed the redial button to us instead of his buddy :-)

I should have had a taperecorder here, it could've gone on the internet :-)

Cya all tonight :-)

Check your clients are getting a valid IP address from DHCP.

Are the clients getting correct DNS / WINS addresses?

Can the clients ping the domain controllers and DNS servers? If not investigate infrastructure issues.

Restart the DNS service on your DNS servers.

Check the client machines can resolve domain controllers via DNS / WINS. Boot into a local admin user and use nslookup, then type the name of your domain. It should resolve to your domain controllers.

Check your server WINS and DNS records and make sure they are correct and that they have not been poisoned. Try ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns on the domain controller(s)

Reboot the domain controllers.

Restoring AD is not going to resolve your issue, as this isn't your problem.

We checked all that several times before we called the helpdesk.

Just got a call from another guy.

Seems like some system files got corrupted, they're gonna make us do a backup of the system state and then a backup of the active directory.

Frenchie must be calling people out of their bed now :-)
We ran for french fries with mayonaise, and some roadkill meat.

Ok, so this has all happened now, we tried to start the system restore, but it seems the administrator password is not the same as the one we generaly use.
So start up the bugger again, do a setpwd to set administrator password for active directory restore mode.

Then we boot to DS mode, just to see the guy who installed the server had set the logon tab of the backup exec services to another account, so, we switch all that stuff to use local logon and integrate desktop.

Fine, now we can at least start the backupservices.

We set out to do a active directory restore from two days ago (since the logfiles show a lot of dhcp , exchange etc errors at 5:20 this morning)

Cool, right at the end it fails on one file. Frenchie says, no problem ... (WTF NO PROBLEM??????) ok, we just do as he says now.
Still the same problems.

We are now at the point where he wants us to free up some HD space (from 400 to 620 free now)

Currently doing another active directory restore.

I'm getting real tired and i'm way past my agressive phase, all i want now is my bed with clean sheets and my naked Korean wife massaging my back.

P.S. I hope you guys Slaughtered Slaughter :-)

Miraculously freeing up disk space made our new attempt at doing the restore complete to 100% (in backupexec at least).

Now awaiting if i can get my pc back into the domain (took him into a normal workgroup to test stuff)

If it works, i'm gonna go home and sleep for a couple of hours, before i get up at 6 to be in the traffic jams which started here this week, due to roadworks on the ringroad, which are supposed to last two years.

And on another side note, my woman called me to say the microwave is broken at home.....

NOW GIMME THAT CS SO I CAN SHOOT MYSELF !!!!!!!!!!!

No, honestly, i'm still the positive guy, but today has not been one of the best this year :-)
And i hope you all had some fun in NC tonight.
