I just logged back on the net(gah, yes dial up)

anyways when i logged on I got that XP message that the LSA shell export or whatever has encountered a prob and needs to close.....

immediately since I work for a dial up tech support center that almost 100% meant that I got a virus.....

so I opened up taskmanager to see if I saw anything thats normally not in my proccesses window and I noticed right away dwwin.exe

did a google search for it and something about dr.watson came up.....so i highlighted and hit end process, and immediately i got that NTS authority shutdown, so i went to start menu, opened run, aborted the shutdown, and I reopened taskmanager again and this time there was something in there called drwtsn32.exe

so my question is, does anybody know of a new virus going around? my XP is complete updated.....norton has came up with nothing and most of all wtf is this dr watson shite?

Ive restarted and so far i been on about 20 mins and no more problems and that dwwin.exe or drwtsn32.exe hasnt came back up and windows isnt trying to shut down, but I know better than to turn a blind eye to that....somethings def wrong.....

any help is greatly appreciated

dr. watson is a build in application debugging facility in windows but it is only the drwtsn32 process. Not sure about dwwin.exe.

Personally I use spybot search & destroy to clean crapware off a lot of PCs at work, amazing what surfing the net promiscuously will leave behind on your 'puter.

http://www.safer-networking.org/

It usually finds all kinds of junk on a PC, mixed with adaware (lavasoft.com?) you can clean most of the spy/crapware off your system. Then get Stinger

http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

and see if it can find any nasties left behind.

and then check your antivirus is up to date and your critical M$ patches are applied.

/edit then get Mozilla Firefox and use it instead of Internet Exploder, it's a very nice standalone browser.

I used to use spybot, but even after I got the latest update there was still a lot of stuff it was not finding. I find that Ad-aware works a lot better.
