View Full Version : People, Their TP Collections, and the Economy

Why?

:)

I remember reading a post a while back, where someone stated they had
3,000 Techparts.
It never struck me at the time, but now it does...

So again, I ask, why?

It seems rather pointless keeping such a large, and obviously time consuming collection. Why aren't people just building them as the parts are collected?

I know they can be used Unressed as good cash substitutes, and it's always handy to have the more valued parts to sell for ludicrous prices, but with the ATC scam to make cash, I'm wondering what the point of it all is, and why people insist on holding onto them? All it does is make the market inflate quicker than it would otherwise, as when someone puts something good up for sale, as oppossed to people just offering cash, or maybe a TP or two, you now get people offering, and this is a real offer:

"WTB xXx : Will pay 20 million, 40 Unressed TP's and two Marine Chips "

Now that, is fucking crazy!!

The other subject, is that of the economy.. Why is it so out of control? Why has so little been done to stamp down on it?

Yes, Barter, Recycle, Research and Construct, should be, if used in the right conjunction, able to bring in profit, but ASG should not accept player built vehicles. This ATC money making procedure has destroyed the game economy. Money is worthless at the higher levels. Solo players are fucked if they want to purchase anything rare, even with a full bank account, they're unlikely to get it with just cash alone, what with clans having several hundred million in their accounts.

It's also down to lack of money sinks, which I can appreciate and realise takes a large chunk of the blame. We need to bring back Dynamic Items soon, and we need to invest in more ways to spend our money, by creating the little things you see in Brainport, which would never affect the Gameplay, but would give good moneysinks, like the Exo-Suit for carrying more weight, but reducing all other stats by -100 (Except your movement), like the new apartments (Which will be here with B:DoY hopefully), like Dynamic Objects, like more vehicles, just transport vehicles, with no weapons even! Just other ways to scoot around.. Variety and spice... Some slower vehicles with heavier armour, some lighter vehicles with less armour, etcetc, like new outfits, armour designs, like processing equipment for apartments, like trader shops, like, etcetetc..

All of this stuff should cost between moderate and stupidly obscene amounts of cash to buy, because we need to get things back under control again.

I firmly believe the ATC routine should be cut back to be less than worthless though.

Simply to bring some worth back to the way we trade, and to let people have more of a chance of obtaining what they need, without having to sell everything they own.

tbh, i used to keep a load of tech parts just so i could always have what i need myself without relying on others.

i really dont like getting help from other players anymore. i used to beg all the time but now i like to earn what i get.

i started a char on uranus and got like 600k in about a week. i know its a long time to make only that much money to many of you but i think i did well not taking anything for free.
had to hunt for what i used and bought and researched my weapons i wanted and got them constructed. worst thing was getting armor, costs hella lot and no one keeps bp's of the low armors. actually i think i may just start a new character and research everything i can find so if anyone needs low stuff like that i can provide it ;] well im bored so im just babbling on... soo... ya ;o i keep tech parts around for me to use in future characters and in case a friend needs them( atm i have none though, a long time ago i had over 2000 parts spread amungst many apts... you dont wanna know what happend to them ;[.... i was bored with the character i had them on and forgot i had them on it, transfered all its money and everything in its gogu, and deleted it, went to char select screen 1 day to get on the char that has all my tech parts and was thinkin hmm which one is it on.. oh ya its on Val Halla *looks at screen* *suddenly realizes* o...om...omfg.... *SCREAM*

There is no 'real' economy in NC.

Money goes in, and goes out, there is not a pre set amount of money in the system that simply gets moved around.

As it stands, far far far more cash comes into the system than goes out.
As such cash, as in the early twenties germany, becomes worthless and a barter system emerges.

Even if they do get rid of the ATC profit then it will still take while for money to be worth something again because the money will move around amongst players, but slowly people will use it up in shops and only then will money be worth something again. Wonder how long that would take....

I agree there is too much money around in NC, and because of such, a barter system of sorts has developed around Tech Parts. When I need tradeskills completed from me I usually pay in unressed TPs with a bit of cash as a bonus. Sure I won't do this for every implant or repair I get done, but if I really need a job done fast or get a really good quality item out of it, I'll pay accordingly.

Because of this, I usually only have about 30 unressed TPs around at any one time, and about 30 ressed for the items I am trying to get collect for my own use.

PS- Yes stop the damn selling of Vehicles to NPC vendors for money.

I never have any money.

7 chars and less than 1 mill between them (on Uranus).

Always found the whole collection side of the game (any game tbh) dull as hell.

I'm an LE player and I intend to stay that way. As such, I cant have more than 20 mil cash (and I dont trust Stock X). So the only other thing I can do is build up a decent rare collection to use as bartering items. I have about 500 tech parts of varying types here and there. When I have enough for a certain wep I get it built and store it until I can trade it for something I need. Thats the only reason I collect as many parts as possible.

Are you saying that LE players can only have 20 Million max, but Non-LE players can have more?

Everyone says that NC needs some sort of cash sink, but nobody seems to actually want one. Most ideas along these lines are shot down quickly. Try suggesting something like removing ammo cloning and see how many people would support it.

EDIT- Syph is saying that you can store personal funds in the clan account, and then withdraw them when needed. With an LE, you can't join a clan, so no clan bank.

You know guys... those people flush with millions and those clans gorged with hundreds of millions are SO damn vulnerable to hackers.

I mean, the NC Bank system can't be that secure that it doesn't even have a hacker or two sniffing around. Not to mention the damn physical NC Bank location is being renovated. Isn't that a bit of a risk in of itself?

Not to mention.. what about artificial intelligences like JOB? I mean, shit, they could do SOOOoooo much with leeching off a few of those super-clan accounts...

Speaking of a fucked economy, I'm sitting around the other day on Saturn and had forgotten to mute the chat...I mean spam....I mean trade-nc channel. I heard some nutter offering 750,000nc PER TECH PART. I think he said unressed too.

:wtf:

It's so bad that I can't remember the last time I was able to just straight up buy tech parts. Trade only.

new player who just joined a clan: "Dude! I just got 1 million nc!"

guy with no job who doesn't go to school: "roflmao i have 50 million. HAHA."

new player who just joined a clan: " :( "

Here are some ideas for money sinks:

- Insurance for items dropped in quickbelts. For every 100K the quickbelt gets so muchharder to hack. Or teleported back.

- Purchase a "letter of marquee" (term from Pirates!) from another faction, grants you amnesty from whatever crimes you have done. Price 1 mil. Raises your faction standing to, say 10.

- Bodyguards (NPC's) that can escort your ass through a hostile zone. Say you got a business meeting in PP3 at the crahn - you're a tradeskiller, got no clan friends, and your relations to CM are crap, or noone is online to help; well, hire NPC bodyguards.

As for cash; i can pull in anything from zero to 2 mil / day, depending on the rares i collect/trade Sometimes i even _loose_ money; went down from 5 mil to 1754 nc in a day.

I'm just waiting for the summer vacation when i can go 24/7 rarehunting again.. maby i'll get that 4-5 slotted SH built soon. 2 more weeks... i cannot take it!!

hehe, im always low on cash, everything i have i invest in ultrarares :)

money's value goes up and down to much :) ultrarares keep there value :)

we need decent moneysinks ingame, but usefull ones :) dont make lube cost 8 times the regular price and such lol ... better install tech-o-matics that sell techs for like 150k/piece and remove all safeslots (and make belt doesnt require hacking ...) , so PKing gets fun again :)

and no-one whines for there 5 slotted weapon cause when ya need another ones ya yust buy one of those freaks that buy techparts nonstop from the tech-o-matic :P

edit: i love the bodyguard idea :) but then i would have bodyguard npc's nonstop around me while PKing :P

he needed like 4 rares 6 parts each

Offered about 2 mil a part straight up, no trade nothing just 2 mil cash in hand he musta been feckin loaded

I personally would never support the removal of ammo cloning. If ammo cloning was removed, you would spend a considerable portion of your playtime running back and forth to GoGu's and A&W/HEW for more ammo, which is just not fun to do.

I agree, hackers should be able to hack the Bank and attempt to transfer credits from the bank into their accounts.

Hackers should also be able to hack into hostile runner/faction accounts and take their money too.

These are some of the best ideas I have seen yet. If these were implemented, I think they would enhance overall gameplay.

the most valueable items are the ones that are not anymore/arent supposed to be yet/banned items.

and it does not just have to be items that are of value.

the most valueable things i can think of:

ceres disk/disks
mining tool
5+ slot weapons (ie 8 slot cbr)

i would pay/trade more/better for this than things like pants of lupin, zargeous belt etc

...but the rarest things...screens of blackhill (i think its that) real UG

No one on Saturn has ever offered 750K per unressed part. You see usually 100K or 125K per unressed part. 750K is usually a specific, ID'd part.

Money sinks are good, but make sure that they target the rich/high level characters. The game is actualy really hard if you try to start from scratch without taking donations or charity. I remember being broke all the time, the money I make from hunting barely covered buying new armor/spells. It wasn't until I nolonger had to buy new armor/equipment that I could finnaly start saving money.

Another idea is to have money circulate among players more. Remember back in early retail when you could recycle 4 chittin to make solantium and get decent exp? As a result lowlvl players could collect chittin while they hunt in the sewers and sell it to the higher level players. We need more goods/services which is only player based. That's how a real econonmy works.

I made a "test char" on uranus, he was barter from the beginning, in 1 and a half day he had over 650k, 500k was made in aggies. His lvl was 23. I guess barter is a little bit to good at lower level because you can get those bone enforcements pretty easily and there are a lot of them. At higher lvl you get like one warbot cola out of those aggies.
