Is Neocron really a PvP game?

Since there are plenty of old and new players roaming the wastelands today, allow me a (re-occurring) question: Is Neocron really a PvP game? I think we can get a pretty clear picture by gathering all opinions and views on that matter.

Let me start this by advising you to take the (famous) Bartle-Test. Please post your results in your comments and add your answer to the following question (in order of importance) What is most important to me: Killing other players. Exploring the world and seeing all cool places. Banding and working together with other players. Becoming big and important.

I will post my Bartle-results and answers later in this thread, so you can reply without prejudice.

It's an MMO, it's an RPG, it's a PvP game. And they all mix to a lesser or greater extend depending on the player's preferences.

I still consider myself an RP-PvPer as a generalisation.

Its both but its not forced on you. The choice has always been yours to make. That's why its a great game.

PvP is a big and very important part of PvE. and PvE is a very important part of PvP. If you are out there, killing warbots - you got to watch your back. Better dont be a drunk bastard in the OOC chat, else you will get shot doing your WOC. also that GenRep thats so close to your desired leveling spot? controlled with PvP combat.

PvP gives depth to PvE.

Then there is PvE giving depth to PvP. Having a high level character, farming PvP gear, gearing new members of a clan, (crafting) etc.. that stuff that PvP games like planetside dont have. yea.. huge part of the game.

i was pretty decent PvP wise back in 2.0. Op fighting, MB ganking.. did not do much PvE content at all towards the end. oh boy.. my tank and my PPU buddy killed every APU & PPU team out there at the time. no exceptions. gooood times.

but ONLY shooting people was never the reason for me playing this game. it was everything around PvP that made PvP fun. Killing that one guy over and over and over again, because he killed that low level guy in your clan. shooting away people in front of the CPR. sneaking over to the dome and run into guards like an idiot while enemy runners are shooting at you.. making roleplayers give you money or else you kill them.

all that stuff that only exists when there is actual PvE content.

PvP in neocron by itself is dull, not as skillbased as most think it is, and characterised by outdated game "mechanics".

people who say this is a PvP game /thread are insecure and want to disassociate oneselfs from roleplayers, mainly because they are insecure about their sexuality in the OOC chat.

naaaah im just kidding. its a pvp game. pve is for carebears.

I got past the first question on the Battletest quiz, and closed this because it did not serve any real purpose.

It's supposed to be a pvp based game. With the game being so old and with so many old veterans with capped out characters taking out your LE chip early is a huge mistake. So many new runners (myself included) rather just leave the LE chip in try to level up to reach the cap. Obviously if you are in a clan or with a group of friends it can be a total different experience, but i'm talking about playing the game solo. It just takes too long to reach the point to where you can use the really good weapons/armor/implants. So most get bored and just never log back in again.

Would the game be better off with a super fast exp gain like 5XP where everyone is out trying to cap out with a surge in population and perhaps a burst in population retention? Or, do you guys think the population is fine and and think the speed of which a casual player can reach cap is fine too?

Any appraisement of Neocron that rates one of its aspects, whether PVP, PVE, RP or Trading, over another is shortsighted and wrong.

From the lively discussion in this thread we mainly can learn 2 things: 1. you guys come up with quite a few different ideas on what Neocron means to you, and 2. most of you cant read.

I was asking for your opinion, so we can talk about what Neocron would be. I wasnt giving you any opinion.

For means of transparency, this is my Bartle result: Explorer 87% Socializer 60% Achiever 40% Killer 13% - ESAK
In fact i love exploring the world of neocron, going everywhere, even showing places and ways to others. An i insist on some degree of roleplay. And i enjoy the occasional OP fight. Well, at least i will enjoy this again (like i did) as soon as i find more time for playing NC, beyond 30 mins of farming every other day.

I believe that theres room for PvP-only players aplenty in NC, while the main part of the game is non-PvP. Like capping your char, making money, getting your shit together. Social skills are a huge advantage in NC, as is the urge of finding out whatever things.

(And, Roger: you cant read either. re-occurring. of course i've been asking this before.)
