Should I bother to make my own drones?

Not until you reach the rare drones (which unlike other rares, are buildable).

Just to be sure: You don't want to build them with your droner do you?
An option for a droner could be repairing though.

I'm planning on maxing my droner out and making him my constructor but was thinking about loming some points right now to construct better quality drones. On another note which drones are aoe?

I don't think it makes sense to build your own drones with the same character but I don't have much experience with droners.

SR-1/MR-1/LR-1 : Scout, no gun
MR : Mini Rocket - tracking and non-AoE
KK : Kami - explosion
L : Laser - one shot
TL : Twin Laser - 2 shots
GAL : Gatling Laser - 4 shots
RK : Rocket - AoE but similar aim to other rockets (ie piss-poor)
RG : Ray Gun - AoE similar to RG Cannons
GA : Gatling - 4 shots
FC : Fusion Cannon - 1 shot AoE similar to Fusion Cannons
FA : Fusion - 3 non-AoE shots, similar to pistol/rifle Fusion but 3 shots
PLC : Plasma - 4 non-AoE shots, like FA but green (~3/4 damage per shot)
PB : Particle Beam - ENR/XRY non-AoE, number of shots increases with TL

I think that's all of them.

Rares are :
Mosquito - Gatling
Raptor - Anti-heal
Particle Nemesis - Particle beam
Punisher - Raygun
Revenge - Kami

That list is out of date.

As it stands currently in the game, MR series of drones work the same way as RK series.

In fact, the MR series tend to do way more damage for their TL as compared to RK drones, which leads me to believe the MR series is bugged. The damage is being calculated as if it were single target, but it's actually AOE.

There is also ion blaster drone that deal energy/xray I think. TL and L do t exist anymore? Stay away from FA, its garbage.

MR is way better than RK, shoots faster, carry more ammo and deal more damage. RK have bigger aoe tho.

Built drones are far better, if you have a CONster willing. They're expensive, however.
