Default Hiya all! Newbie here with a question/suggestion!

    Yo everyone!

Just tried Neocron last night and really enjoyed it - this is exactly the kind of game I was looking for and thought didn't exist (and couldn't work out why!).

    So well done!

My small question/suggestion though is about character jobs and classes.

Can you change your class/job during the game or once it's chosen is it chosen for good?

I ask this because I think in a game like Neocron which seems to be shooting for a kind of futuristic realism, that having this flexibility in your character as you do in the real world (IRL of course we all have the option to change our jobs as we wish as long as we have the right qualifications and social connections, and even to change our body type and strength) might help to make the game world feel far more real.

For example, a government worker could discover the truth and join the resistance, a hacker could increase strength and take up arms, etc.

    What do you think?

Cheers, and thanks for the awesome game!

    Mike

You can't change jobs as such but you can use lom pills to totally respec. You can also change factions by running missions for the faction you want to change to. You then go to their faction hq and pay 300000 credits and you have changed faction.

Edit: I can't recall exactly how much faction sympathy you need to make the change.

Could be interesting, if you had a cap of 100 in any one of the 5 skills, but the values were inter-changeable... so instead of a tank having:
    25 INT
    100 STR
    100 CON
    75 DEX
    0 PSI

eventually through pills or otherwise, your Gentank model could change to a PSI Tank, with

    100 INT
    30 STR
    30 CON
    40 DEX
    100 PSI

Could be interesting, but at the same time, I dont know if it would be in keeping with NC. But hey, I like NC as it is minus a few bugs here and there
The future is unknown until the present reveals it.

That sort of defeats the purpose of having classes though.

Not to mention it could be completely abusable by taking for example, 100 psi and 100 dex, to get a PPU spell using rifler.

Uh yeah, thats even worse than the 100dex/100con setup I was thinking of!

On the other hand, a constructor with 100 str using heavy weapons lol.

    That's really cool

Ok that's pretty close to what I meant!

I think flexibility mimics reality more and so is desirable in an MMORPG

I can't wait to get stuck back into the Neocron world, I'll give it another go later!

I guess that's pretty close to what I wanted anyway, but I think the more flexibility and mimicking of reality the better ^^

I've been promoting classless systems for quite some time too. After finally having tried some MMOs that use classless systems, I came to the conclusion, that it just does not work as intended or no Dev has gotten it right yet. It ends up with just the same, a handful distinctive builds ( you could also call classes) of which in each you only see a few varying specialisations (jobs) that do not stray too far from the cookie cutter build.

So yeah NC has classes, it is great that way, with four character slots at hand you can easily play each class and through loms each possible specialisation (aka job) of a class.

I guess it does work fairly well, especially as you can change faction anyway which is the main thing I was keen on!

I do (personally) think that classless systems are potentially better, but it's a relatively small thing
